Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
It sure is. I would appreciate a clear definition of what "collaboration" means in this case. So far the term is quite vague. Does it mean: One or more builds by player A with text from player B? Builds and story for different properties from both players A and B? Builds and story for one property (e.g. a shared build) from both players A and B? At what point does the collaboration become a "significant collaboration story-wise"? Is there a need for "balance" between the players, or could A provide 95% and B the other 5%? Is there a limit to the number of players for any one collaboration? -
Interesting take on "prospecting", and definitely very in character for the WTC. Could use more explosives though. The "kaboom"-scene is a great detail. Overall, well done! The WTC appreciates saltpeter for its many uses, some of which can be seen in this prospecting action.

She is indeed looking much better, congratulations on the succesful "upgrade"! That crane looks off though due to the parts used, and to me the boat on the front side does not work visually. Maybe redo the crane, and find a solution for the boat below the gallery at the stern? Also: dust off some of those parts man! It still is a definite improvement over the Mk.I version, and you sure got a lot better since building that one. Now we only need some views of the interior, plus maybe a bit more action on deck. Well done!

Maybe not elegant, but clever! Great idea, I will try to keep it in mind. Thanks a lot. -
Friday is good for both of us, thank you and sorry for the late reply.

[COR May FB2] Blackwood's Lodgings, Port Woodhouse
Darnok replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Not much left to say indeed. Great to have you back with the bricks. A wonderful build, full of character. How is that musket fixed to Blackwood? A picture of his backside would be nice. -
With Mesabi Landing growing, so did its harbour. Keeping track of all cargo being moved in and out of port is done by the Harbour Administration, which just moved to its new bureau. While on the pier some WTC Infantry guarded the building, one cat eyed a parrot hungrily... ... on the streetside one fisherman carried home rich bounty, while a young pirate returned from his adventures. Is that Drunknok sleeping under the stairs? No wonder the "WTC Monthly" has been late... . ==================================================================================================== Licensed as a medium commerce property. This building has an interior, the roof section can be removed easily: . The interior of the build is featured here, but you can also take a look under the spoiler tag: As always, C&C are appreciated.

[COR ML] One boat, two boats, three boats...
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
You are. I consider both given options to be fair and reasonable, which I appreciate. Kind of off topic, but not much: if I do a build to increase my ship level that also has the required size to be licensed as a land property... is that build one or the other, or can it be both? Thanks in advance. -
[COR ML] One boat, two boats, three boats...
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Why would you think so? I think my reply was perfectly clear. As it seems to be necessary, again: I will provide "an individual picture of each, with something (significantly) different going on for each boat [...] until the end of the coming weekend". -
[COR ML] One boat, two boats, three boats...
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Maybe you - as in "the makers of the game", not you specifically! - should not have chosen a prefab boat as the prime example for class 0 then. I did just the same, so do not agree with that suddenly being an issue. While I do appreciate the effort some people put into brickbuilt ships even for rowboats - @Legostone posted some fine examples just hours ago - it is nothing I want to do for something like the class 0. I think the prefabs look better than anything one can do with bricks at that size. It is simply not worth the effort in my opinion. And I do not see how this is different than any other ship in terms of investment: the bricks needed for bigger ships are not free either. I can not afford the bricks I would need for anything beyond a class 5 at the moment - does that mean I should complain about people who can? Of course not. Would you call that "we do ot want a race to drive up brick prices on Brick Link"? Of course not. So why in this case? Even said in jest, this is completely unnecessary... Will do. The land property is already liensed. See above. -
She is a beauty indeed. Great build and excellent rigging (that must have taken ages... ). I also love how much "battle action" this ship has already seen! An overall awesome MOC, very well done. I can not wait for the next one!

The WTC Shipyards had been hard at work over the last weeks. Two squadrons of the newest addition to the WTC fleet were now finished and had just returned from their first mission. The harbour had been extended to give them a proper place to dock: These small rowboats are the first examples of the "Agnes Class": small, annoying to handle, but ideal for pestering the enemy. Each is armed with a carronade and manned by two WTC Marines. In small numbers they might be nothing more but a nuisance for bigger ships - but in large numbers they can become a problem even for full-grown warships! None of that mattered for now though, since only fruits and other plants had been transported to Mesabi Landing. No fights today, which might annoy some of the WTC more than others: . While most of the boats where already back and being unloaded... ... one straggler arrived just now. Others were either busy transporting the goods into the city, or took a break from the hard work. . And while the WTC would never share its docks with dirty foreigners, they where kind enough to let them use a nearby beach for loading and unloading similarly small ships (for a small share of 50% of course). The location even had a connection to the fine street network of Mesabi Landing. Oh, the WTC is benevolent indeed! . Behind the pier a clever salesman had set up a store for rum - an instant gold mine with the WTC Marines nearby all the time. It also proved once and for all that even the cats in Mesabi Landing were alcoholics: . And maybe, just maybe, we also witness a future expansion to the WTC fleet? The crab might know... . ============================================================================================ Licensed as a large commerce property for Mesabi Landing. You might notice that the MOC is 64x64 studs in size, rather than the "necessary" 48x48 studs. I did this for two reasons. First of all I really needed the room for the ten rowboats and a meaningful pier/harbour scene. Remove the boats from the scenes above and the MOC is still 100% fine as a large commerce property though (the ten boats fit pretty perfectly on the "open water areas", which make up about 32x32 studs of the whole MOC). Secondly I also want to use this to license all the ten boats (as class 0 obviously). There are ten individual ship builds, and they are all distinguishable from each other. Note the round 1x1 plates below the flag poles at the front: they go from 0 to 4, thus marking each boat of both squadrons. As always, C&C are appreciated. P.S. for the gamemasters: I licensed the ships as class 0 with identical stats and very similar names: They all start with "WTC Agnes" indicating fleet and class (see above). The five ships of the squadron with yellow flags on their MOCs go by "WTC Agnes Y1" to "WTC Agnes Y5" indicating yellow and the respective ship number. Same for the "blue ones" with "B" instead of "Y", indicating blue of course.

Chapter II - This is no moon island After what felt like weeks, there was still no land in sight. Nothing on the horizon, no birds to be seen, the ocean deep and cold. So it came as quite a surprise when a small island showed up in front of the "Cranky Parrot" seemingly out of nowhere: the view was clear, so how did this one get overlooked until now? For the crew it mattered not, for now there was something to do! Pip, Old One Eye and some of the WTC Marines took the boat to land on the island for a first look: They soon landed on an unusually flat and strangely shaped island. Some would say it was roughly 100 yards across - but the WTC did not use such weird measurements, and none of the group cared anyway. While searching the island, Jolly and Scar found some glittering gemstones at its far side, while Giant stumbled upon some fossils near its centre: . The brought their findings back to the boat. Old One Eye mumbled: "Interesting. We will bring both back to the ship, but that will take some while. Who knows what those stones are worth back home? I am also pretty confident we can sell these fossils for a nice profit to some stupid scientist of the Crown." Suddenly the ground started shaking... A shout came from Jolly near the middle of the island: "Woah!" A giant fountain of water rose into the sky, while the whole island started to sink into the waters. There was no other choice than to jump onto the boat - with nothing but the fossils and one of the gemstones. Whatever else there was left, it quickly disappeared below the waves: "Eh, what about all those gems? We just lost a fortune!" moaned Giant. "You don't know th,." replied Pip, "who knows what they where worth? It could be nothing. And we still have this... whatever it is. We will just douple its price!" Old One Eye stared into the distance with his remaining eye: "This was but another interruption of our mission. We will continue northwards. Let that crazy scientist have a look at these fossils if he wants to, then store them safely. Set sails again as soon as possible!" === Back on the "Cranky Parrot", Wesbert Thaum was indeed very curious about the fossils, for he had never seen anything like this one. It seemed to be some creature of the deep sea, with overlapping horn plates for protection. Small teeth suggested a carnivorous lifestyle. . . ================================================================================== I chose to save the fossils/minerals instead of the gemstones, while heading further north. One more picture of the "island" without any minifigs: As always, C&C are appreciated.

Adding to this, @Bregir: another option would be to give the gamemasters an outline of what story we want to tell until now (on the AMCRA thread, in spoilers), and finish the relevant builds over the coming days. Technically we have done the required builds, and want to continue the AMCRA this month, it is just some builds missing - not the story idea for them though. I guess it is more than enough to work with in terms of GMing, and some builds showing up a bit later should not be an issue.

@LM71Blackbird To the honourable citizens of Quinnsville, and to whom it may concern in its administration, word has reached us that a sizable deposit of saltpeter has been found near your fine settlement quite some time ago. The WTC wishes to offer its help and expertise in mining and processing this tricky mineral. Funds shall not be an issue. Kadeus Mordo of the WTC Mesabi Landing, 30th day of the fifth month, 618 -
I like the concept. Details like "where are the card details shown?" in relation to the gamer accounts or "how does transfering a card work?" should be made clear sooner rather than later, but I consider this a work-in-progress solution so far. And a good one! @Mesabi Nice attempt at a card design. Could need some more polishing (and better pictures for sure), but I really like the overall direction.

[OL - FB] Captain Picard: Chapter 1 "The Return"
Darnok replied to Django Fett's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
First and foremost: welcome back, good to have you around again! A nice story and a very good little build there, I like the "cleanliness" and the classic look of it. As for the settlement location, I think it comes down to these questions: Do you have a particular story in mind to build on this? If yes: choose the settlement that best suits your story idea. Are you interested in a particular region of the BotBS world? If yes: pick a settlement there, and make that one your "home base". I believe in both cases (or any other question concerning the faction) Oleon players are happy to help. -
Great continuation of the story! I love how much effort went into this chapter: not only the fleet battle (plus microships), but also a huge build for the harbour/street/wall when the party arrived. Good build overall! And of course an entertaining read, as usual. Well done, I can not wait for the next chapter!

Who will be the next Mayor of Pontelli
Darnok replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This election seems totally unbiased towards any one specific character. I think we should really give the only woman in the field a chance. You do not get the nickname of "Smiling Sally" for being a grumpy jerk, so we can assume she is an open and friendly personality. She hides nothing - much different from that savage native. Hiding his face behind a mask, what else might he hide? Do not trust this alleged cannibal, vote for the safety of your community and your loved ones! Vote Smiling Sally!
