This is exactly how I am. I also dabble in costuming, and Star Wars props re-creation. Sometimes I concentrate on those for a while, then work my way back to LEGO, and the other way around as well.

To me, a dark age is a complete disinterest in LEGO. No purchasing. No building. No looking at LEGO blogs. :-) Myself, I am on a self imposed LEGO buying embargo unless it is a GREQT deal. I'm concentrating on appreciating what I have, and building more.

Wow! Totally forgot about that set. I LOVED playing with that one. The vehicle design was so unique. While I didn't have this as a child, I traded some Star Wars action figures for one that was complete, and in fantastic shape. One of my better trades! I have fond memories of my mom taking me to K-Mart and letting me buy LEGO sets. This was one of them. I usually built them as soon as we got back to the car. This was another one mom bought for me. Wow. I had that one as well. Didn't remember it until seeing that picture. LOVED that set. You could build so many great things. The oldest set I have, that is still together, and was never once taken apart is the London Bus. I remember it being a mail away special. Great thread!

I hide LEGO purchases from my wife all the time. Whenever I go shopping at the local Meijer, I always slip a CMF (or two) in with the groceries.

Totally understand, and that stinks that that happened. Thanks for the link, though, and additional pics!

Bilbo Baggins (blue jacket) exclusive figure with DVD
kibosh replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Ahhh. This makes sense. Didn't occur to me that the DVD had deleted scenes. -
Bilbo Baggins (blue jacket) exclusive figure with DVD
kibosh replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Why put Bilbo in a blue coat if he hasn't worn one yet in the movie? This figure would make more sense in the future. -
This really is excellent, and inspiring. I need to decide on a building to add to my city, and get started building it. Awesome colors, too.

Not a huge Star Trek fan, but those are incredibly well done.

Now that is an outstanding find!

These are spectacular. LOVE the angled facade on the first one. Any chance of you shared your files? Would love to learn your techniques, and build something similar for my town. Great work!

That really does look great. Can you post the brand and type of sticker stock you used to make it?

Hmmmm... I would have thought I spent $500+ easy with my VIP card this year. I'm at our local store almost once a month, too.

Out of curiousity, how much have you, and your roommate, spent at LEGO stores or on the website in the last 12 months?

How close are you to a LEGO store? Those Brick Friday invites have a lot to do with geography as well as spending. If you're the top purchaser, but you live 100 miles away, I don't think you'll get an invite.

How to calculate scale for model building
kibosh replied to dvsntt's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Agreed. Start with the part that's hardest to control. You only have so many options for windows and doors. Use those as a starting point, and go from there. I've not had much luck with doing the grid thing. I find it best to pick a starting point (the windows), and start building until it feels right. You'll know when it does. -
I still see them on the shelves around here for $50. This was the cheapest I've heard of them. I was shocked when I scanned it.

I scored 3 Quinjet 6869 sets for $24.50 each at my local Walmart.

Cleaning models
kibosh replied to DarkShadow73's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Those ArtiFex brushes look great! May have to pick up a set of those. -
This is an awesome model. You've capture so much emotion and action. You can feel the despair of the captured folk. You can feel the terror the executed must have surely felt. I would have like to seen this shot on a darker, more ominous background. The white really highlights everything, and it looks to be winter, but it's a bit bright and cheery feeling.

Great information on the parts/color subbing. Thanks!
