  1. But we had Nexo Knights! For real, though, as much as I'd love to see a classic castle or classic space line, and I am using the larger terms here, since I agree with the way that @Old-mf has grouped the sub themes, I am kind of hoping that it's Bionicle since my wallet is already hurting and I have no interest in that. Let the Bio fans have their fun now and give us a real castle line later (or space, but with SW out, I'm not going to hold my breath on that one).
  2. As promised... I bought a case of CMF21, as did my friend. We weighed each bag then opened it. We each got 3 of every figure. With 6 replicates, these are their average weights and 2 sigma error bars (~95% confidence interval), for the figures in their bags. Violin kid 9.36g ± 0.14 Pug 9.81g ± 0.09 Ladybug 10.17g ± 0.10 Alien 10.18g ± 0.15 Castaway 10.69g ± 0.02 Beekeeper 11.21g ± 0.14 Chorus girl 11.69g ± 0.04 Aztec 11.70g ± 0.06 Airplane kid 13.11g ± 0.09 Space cop 13.46g ± 0.07 Dolphin/surfer 15.51g ± 0.09 Centaur 17.78g ± 0.06 The Ladybug and the Alien are unable to be discerned by weight alone, although the ladybug wings are fairly easy to feel. The Aztec and Chorus girl are likewise impossible to differentiate by weight alone, but the Chorus girl comes in an inner plastic bag so should be easy to tell apart. Of course, this assumes that you're willing to be the weirdo weighing out all the CMF bags with a portable electronic scale in the middle of the store, but there you go!
  3. Wow! What a beautiful build, and congrats on getting a front page! I really like this build for a lot of reasons. The flipper roof looks fantastic, and I love how it was haphazardly repaired with wooden boards. The brick built door looks great, and I like the older feel of the timber portion of the building. The inclusion of dark grey with dark bley looks good, and gives the build some subtle character. The fall foliage on the birch tree contrasts well with the white house, and you did a great job edging the build with two sets of trees, yet still have the taller tower drawing the eye in the middle. I love that you have an interior, and how the picture on the wall is askew--the soldiers probably don't care even enough to take it down, let alone straighten it! The irregular base and irregular angles make the whole scene come alive and feel more organic. I love the nighttime shot, and the glow to the window makes me think of the old 1980s and 1990s Lego catalogs where they would do shots like that at night. Nice story to go along with it, too! It will be interesting to see where the patrons go!
  4. Nice use of the white torsos in the Tudor work! The cobblestone work with a closely packed pattern looks great, and you did a good job making the vine feel organic. The bread is showcased well on the racks, with the different colors, and I like how you used a lot of historic inspiration from merchant-in-dwelling and the overhang. It's really tough, but getting more light on the vendor would help a bit. I would also suggest putting the bird on the roof vertical rather than at an angle, since most birds remain vertical (creepers, woodpeckers, and nuthatches are exceptions and these tend to wind around the trunks), even if that means using a cheese slope and simply placing the bird on a tile. I think it looks very good and has a great classic castle feel to it, but am curious why you chose black rather than reddish brown for the tudor? Was it a parts consideration? Dark brown would look great, but I know very few people who have that many parts in dark brown, and I don't know if all those pieces are made in dark brown. In any case, it's a great creation, and I enjoy seeing some civilian medieval buildings!
  5. Beautiful! I love the detail here, from the fire pit, the food, the ornamentation on the walls... and the rug is really spectacular. I look forward to seeing Horgaard hall progress further!
  6. Thank you for the links! And yes, this is the problem with the way they broke up the categories. I suspect if Bionicle had multiple sub themes to vote for on this survey it would also not fare as well.
  7. I'm sorry that you had that experience. I think it's really sad when people feel the need to tear others down. What purpose does that serve? You should be able to wear a Dany outfit with tennis shoes if you want!
  8. I would like to thank you for your review. I usually don't like it when people post links here to external websites with reviews (and I still prefer people post them here), but I took the time to read yours and found it was one of the best reviews I have ever read on Lego products. The vast majority of Lego reviews I read are gushingly positive as if TLG can do no wrong. I get tired of these and especially when I have people rail against me when I even hint at an opinion other than any given Lego set is the best thing ever made. You stated the parts of the set that you did and did not like, giving well thought out and well described reasons for each, which is refreshing. Keep up your honest and extensive reviews.
  9. I have been working on a project for almost a year now. Still waiting on B&P orders to come in and struggling to find time to build. This pandemic has made it really difficult to find time to build.
  10. I'm very happy that TLG provides B&P. I would encourage all of you to make sure to tell operators how much you appreciate the service every time you call in as I do. Discussion here is not nearly as direct as people commenting to the operators who pass along that information. Production of more parts would solve the issue, but it's difficult to think that TLG has that much production capacity left (if they're not running near capacity they're not very efficient and thus losing money). If particular elements are very popular and require more production, it probably takes quite a while to get onto the production schedule, order more feedstock, etc. I would love for them to do this, but I find it unrealistic for a company to simply produce more stock to leave it sitting around in the case it's not purchased, and on-demand production has a definite lag time. I don't like the 'big brother' type mentality, but I also think there's nothing wrong with holding people to their terms of service. When you buy from B&P you agree not to resell the parts. If you do, they should cut you off. They may take the attitude that they can't prove that elements on BL stores are from B&P, I don't know. The best arrangement is to more widely advertise B&P so that people buy from B&P and not BL. BL will then be relegated to OOP elements and people won't be getting ripped off paying $20 for reindeer on BL when they can pay $5.44 on B&P. I also disagree on further limiting elements. As a MOCer, I wind up needing more than 200 of certain elements (tiles for roofs, etc.) and trying to discern the difference between "popular" or "non-MOCing" elements and these would be a huge hassle. I'd rather deal with scalpers than have limits reduced.
  11. I think that I would have been OK with it if the designer had a beloved husky or something. As it is, I don't dislike huskies, but it feels like a missed opportunity to either include a dog mold more common to medieval europe or to go full Nordic and include many more northern aspects. I also would argue that the mold is a husky since it has been used repeatedly as such in dogsled teams in Arctic sets. Sesame street: $120 US / 1367 pcs ($0.088/pc) with 5 minifigs, 5 new molds, 2 birds, 10 new printed pieces and more recolors than I can count for a licensed set. Medieval Blacksmith: $150 / 2164 pcs ($0.069/pc), 4 minifigs, no new molds, 1 dog, 1 horse, four new prints if you include the horse (I'm assuming that it and the blacksmith torso are new), one recolor (horse) for an unlicensed set. Barracuda Bay: $200 US / 2545 pcs ($0.79/pc and this includes huge hull pieces) with 8 minifigs (9 with skeleton), no new molds, 1 parrot, 1 pig, at least 5 new prints, at least one recolor for an unlicensed set. I would agree that the designers chose not to make a new goat mold. I would have loved to have seen a black or brown chicken, a new goat, or one of the new dogs. At PoBB prices, that would make the set $171 US, or at Sesame Street prices $190, which it seems this is hitting in the Netherlands already. Ooooh! Oooh! Count me in! Let's release a classic space guy and maybe a Blacktron guy with every space set and a classic castle and forestman guy with every Harry Potter set! Anyone who doesn't want it can just give them to me! Fixed that for you. In all seriousness, though, I will at least deal with the squash since they said in the video that it was an homage to the designer. I'm more than fine with anachronisms done for a purpose. The heated arguments about the historical inaccuracy of female knights strikes me as nonsensical. This is a fantasy world. There are orcs and wizards in sets. Why should a woman not be a knight? Did people get mad about Macy (I think that was her name, I didn't really follow Nexo) in the Nexo Knights? This whole set screams fantasy medieval by design anyway. Sure, maybe a Husky exists in a fantasy world, too, but I'm less concerned with the breed of dog than the missed opportunity there in one direction or the other as I stated above. My only real disappointment is the civilian female mini is that she's so generic. No new prints, no cool dresses or skirts if they wanted to go that direction, no new hair, no real 'story'. Is she the blacksmith's daughter? Is she his wife? What's her story? Her clothes don't scream anything other than generic and she has a bow and arrow.... but what? I think this was another missed opportunity to do something really fun like put a small wolfpack brooch on her shirt or maybe a forestman stag print on a belt buckle or something to indicate that maybe there's more to her than meets the eye and a nod to another classic castle theme. I really like the female black falcon knight and think she's spot on. Thanks for providing the Reddit reference. I had not seen that before. I love the idea of the removable horns on the goat. If the colors are chosen carefully enough, I would think that the long cattle horns could be used for making anteolpe or gazelle or something with a recolor or new prints. I also think that we are definitely missing sheep. And, @koalayummies, the cows with ridiculous horns made me fall off the chair laughing! How absolutely hysterical. Thank you for a much needed laugh! Overall, now that I see the second (or first for Europe) floor and size, I think that I may pick up a copy of this set. Probably not the multiple copies I had been planning on originally, but I am leaning toward it being good enough to pick up a copy. And I will definitely be on B&P to pick up some of those tan horses and black falcon torsos!
  12. Yeah, me too. I figured that would be one of the advantages to them acquiring BL, but instead we largely lost the ability to buy 3rd party and modified bricks.
  13. That's really sad. If they are really parting out that many elf clubhouses, then good for them, but more than likely they don't have the rest of the parts in inventory to back that up and are getting the reindeer from B&P, which is against the TOS. I hope TLG cross references names, addresses, and e-mail addresses to bust those people.
  14. Very nice! It reminds me of another redux from about 5 years ago. Yours more prominently features the arched walkway adjoining the tower, and I think captures more of the 'classic' feel with the red rather than dark red. I also like the larger size of the inn and the larger, more usable size of the tower. If I had one suggestion it might be to use gold window lattices to make them pop a little more and be more uniform with the yellow window (which is great!). I really like what you've done with the interior. The tiling, fireplace and cooking hood are great. The statuary on the wall is fantastic! I also like how you stacked supplies in boxes in the back near the alleyway. Really outstanding!
  15. I voted for forestmen, classic castle, and lion knights. It's disappointing that the castle and space cub themes were broken up while 'town' and 'trains' were one huge theme. Based on responses here and other threads, castle and space are getting a lot of votes, but across their many sub themes. I would have lumped forestmen, black knights, wolfpack, etc. as subthemes under castle. I doubt that any castle or space theme will make it based on this.
  16. Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry. To summarize, it seems that the people who didn't vote for it largely didn't notice it, and those that did were not hung up on the brighter colors. A few of us voted for it because it had a load of animals, but most of us voted for it just because we're desperate for castle. The only real hangup to purchasing it now is the price point. I will say, if this set is over 2000 pieces as stonewars says, it may be more of a modular size and would feel like more value to me. There have been several sets of late that seem larger when you see them in person. Even the Diagon Alley set that I knew was going to be big looks HUGE in person. So I'm hoping once I see better pictures of this set and/or in person it will have a modular feel. Let's hope we start getting some medieval sets with animals. We really need a sheep!
  17. Wow! *Applause* This is a well-deserved front page. The whole scene is great from the irregular base and colors to the amazing dragon. I particularly like the dark and sand green water in contrast with the lime green. You have successfully managed to incorporate almost every shade of green through color blocking, which is impressive and tricky to do. The minifig posing and facial expressions are great. The tree on the right is shaped well, but kind of squarish, although I don't know how you get around that given the limitations of the medium. However, the dragon deserves its own paragraph. My, is it spectacular! I really like the overall feel of it, since it hearkens to the medieval fantasy dragons to me. Look out @Henjin_Quilones, you have some competition in dragon building now! The head is my favorite part. It gives such a menacing, powerful and evil look to it. The eyes seem to glow. The fire is also spectacular, and you can tell that the recipient did not live through it! Great work with the SNOT landscaping in dark tan, too. It really looks good. Great work, and keep it up!
  18. Cute little build! I like the colors and the upside down roof. Interestingly, had you not done the roof upside down, if you had say done it in tiles, I don't think I would have liked the plate accents on the corners, but as it is, it looks good. Obviously, you had the part restriction, which is why I'm pointing out that you made it work, because I think deserves applause. Nice build!
  19. Well done! You have a great taste for adventurous colors, and the lime green is a great indicator of the early spring to me. You have a really nice use of the weird slope type plates in the wall, and the intentional round plates looks great near the roofline. Even the square well is detailed yet simple, which I find hard to pull off. The dark browns against the LBG look great, and your use of the DBG for the base really blocks the color. Outstanding (as usual for you! )!
  20. Nice house! I really like your attention to detail in the overhang design near the street and the tasteful but not overdone greebling on the stone. The tudor style looks good, as does the irregular base, and I like the realistic shop stall on ground level. The lighting on this is fantastic! I don't know what you changed, but it really looks good! Excellent build!
  21. Very nice work! I like the bright colors appropriate for Kali. And yes, the desert king is still in Kali as far as I understand, although there is some division and pushback against him. The angles you get on the leaves at the base is great, and your pavilions to protect from the sun are spot-on. My favorite part is the D shaped rounded gatehouse towers, though, since they are highly defensible. You sure got some great selection at the PAB wall! Great to see you posting again!
  22. Don't worry, the limit is 200.
  23. PoBB or the OFS. Vintage car would be just after that.
