21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V (LEGO Ideas)
thorin replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It makes me glad to read this... I bought a rocket on day one, but I'm proud to see TLG making sure that everyone gets the sets they want and not catering to the desires of the resellers. -
The MOC that comes apart in layers? - yeah - I have... It is pretty impressive. I supposed it would arguably be the best "build" ever. Either way, this MF is amazing!
-
Why are people disappointed!? This set is fantastic! I get it is expensive, but come on... it's by far the best set I've ever seen (and that includes MOCs). The interior looks great, the bottom looks great, the figs look great, the added detail is almost perfect...

I guess you are right... I just remember saving up when I was a kid to buy castle set 6085. It must have taken me over half a year, because I remember saving both holiday $ and birthday $ to get there... it's still one of my favorite sets because I earned it. I think that the anticipation and wait is what makes it so special. I just can imagine kids asking for it for several years before they finally get one... if Lego makes it a "oops we only made a few" item that only the resellers get to enjoy, that'll be terrible IMHO.
-
I hope not. If TLG goes through all these months/weeks of hype-building to have only a few minutes of availability... that would be a pretty poor reflection on their business. I'm hoping that if anything, availability from 12 hours to 2 weeks will be the issue. They must know that they can keep making these for years and continue selling them for years. Kids all over the world are going to see the "Largest Lego Set Ever" posters (or get the postcard in the mail) and start saving up to buy one. How is TLG going to save face if they start taunting the children with the ultimate holiday dream only to yank it out from under them!!!

Looks to me as though the "cart" is confirmed as being part of the in-store shopping experience!

Great review! Excellent way to outline the project, the build, unique pieces, etc. Thanks for sharing for all of us!

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!
thorin replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm not sure my pocketbook can handle another 2017 release... I never thought I'd say that, but the stream seems to be flowing faster than ever... On the other hand, Yoda's Hut looks amazing! Hopefully it gets a little more viney, "weathered" and natural looking before release. Something closer to the ewok village. It feels a tad cubic/boxy but I'm soooo glad they made it mostly enclosed. Awesome! -
I thought the set was pretty cool myself. I can see where it could have been a bigger/UCS, but there are only so many "big" sets each year and at that time there were already 5-6 UCS sets on shelves (xwing, tie, slave 1, sandcrawler, Death Star, Ewok village)...

Here are photos of the front and back of the flyer that I got in the mail (u.s.) The strange thing is that the "free poster" image shows three gray boxes... I'm curious if you get "one of three exclusive posters." It also says that the Force Friday II sales are from September 1-3. Maybe you get a different poster each day (1st, 2nd, 3rd)...
-
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I did get a flyer here in the u.s. indicating not only a Scarif trooper with a $50 purchase, but a free poster with any Lego Star Wars purchase. I've been hoping for a "Rogue One" themed poster to match the previous ones from a couple years ago... hopefully this is it!

I never saw it other than the rumors that it was at a Legoland 22 hours away... I guess I'll have to pass on that one . -
It often works. But it doesn't always work. Nintendo sold a ton using this trick, and yet I know several people (including myself) that went from buying only Nintendo to saying "screw you" and choosing to never buy their products again. If Lego goes down this road, I'll likely do the same. It works in the short run, but it hurts the business in the long run.
-
Yes. Yes. Yes! I've always wished they would re-release this set. It was due for a new hut, and I was disappointed when the 2017 rumor didn't pan out. I can already imagine something similar to the cantina set from a couple years back... Is it just the hut, or does it have an Xwing with "algae" and "pond scum" like the older set?
-
Honestly, I think it has to do more with size/cost. In order to do it right (and bigger/better than the older set) you would have to build a huge set. Not $150 or $250, but $300+... There are 4-5 scenes that would all need to be rendered at the same level as a $80 play set. With so many other "big sets", I'm sure lego has to be careful to not put too many of them out there at once. I think we will get it eventually, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was for the 40th anniversary of ESB. Just don't be surprised if it's another bank breaker... My hope has always been that they would release it in a similar fashion to the old one, and sell one scene every 6-12 months... with pegs to connect them. I don't know why lego doesn't do this with more sets...

I know I sound selfish... But does anyone else find themselves wanting a Gemini/Atlas and a Redstone/Mercury rocket, etc. At the same scale so you can line them up and see the height difference? -
Is it bad that as soon as I saw the pictures, the music from this scene began playing from the deep crevasses of my brain?

I had the same issues with the Shop@Home site. Set went live and it took me 1.5 hours to finally get through. Once I bought it, it shipped and arrived in less than 30 hours... Wowsa! I sure hope they don't have this issue with future sets (cough... millenium falcon... cough). In looking around, it appears that backorders are no longer accepted on Shop@Home in the US. It says out of stock, but when I click on the set it goes to a page that says the link is no longer available... It appears that amazon, WalMart, Target, etc. are all sold out as well... Anyone know if there will be more runs or was this limited to a certain number of sets? -

Welcome to the group. A lot of people have started coming back to Lego. I was away from the early/mid 90s until about 3 to 4 years ago. Lego + Star Wars was too hard to ignore.g I agree about the Saturn... this rocket is an amazing build. I'm excited to see it in person. I'm sitting here in the US waiting for it to switch to "available" on Shop @ Home... -
Battle on Endor was a nice set. The playability was nice, the fact that it opening/closed was cool, the exploding walls/battle damage are pretty sweet, and it came with a lot of figures (enough to mimic a small battle). The negatives were that they never came out with any add-on sets. Three sets that snapped together would have been pretty freaking cool (one as the bunker, one as the exploding shield generator, and one as the landing platform with skytunnel. They could have even thrown a small imperial shuttle or AT-AT in the mix to spice up whichever of the three sets was least interesting. One thing to note... I actually prefered the AT-ST in the Battle of Endor to both the new Rogue One set and the UCS set. It was a really tight build with nice scale and somewhat sturdy construction. It was one of those side-builds that you put together and you can't think of any way that you would have done it differently. It is the only lego-related item I have on my work desk.

I don't know if I see this... as you said, there is limited shelf space and I'm not sure how much Disney will want Lego pushing the PT OT stuff with the constant 12 month battery of movies on the horizon. However, I can imagine a UCS Jabba's Sail barge and I'd love to see it. Personally, I collect both UCS and "mini-fig" scale (meaning I don't mind having duplicates of ships/vehicles/places at both scales). With all the controversy surrounding the last set, I'm not sure if we'll see one in the near future. The set was released in 2013 and pulled from shelves in 2013 (although you could still find it around well into 2014... but don't tell that to Lego). http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/01/lego-jabbas-palace-racism_n_2993978.html I wouldn't be shocked if Jabba's Palace becomes the next 10123 where we don't see it again for a very long time (if ever). I remember when all the news happened and Lego started pulling the set. It was pretty bad PR for them, and from a business/marketing perspective I'm not sure if that is the road they want to go down as a toy maker. If Disney doesn't ask/force them to do it... I don't really see if happening... but that it just my humble opinion.

I struggled with this same decision a couple years ago when the new one came out. Ultimately I went with paying more and ebaying the 6210 for the following reasons: 1) Sails are fabric in lieu of stiff plastic. Personally I like the fabric ones since they inherently have a matte finish and don't feel so glossy/fake. 2) The nose. I totally agree with retroinferno... The nose on 75020 sucks. Sucks sucks sucks. Straight up ugly. In fact... I think it ruins the entire set. It's is too noticeable and "wart" looking. The smooth conical nose of 6210 blends in perfectly. 3) You get the Sarlac and a skiff... Yes, you can pick these up all over, but I personally wanted a couple of skiffs (to match the movie) and this made it easy to pick up an extra skiff right off the bat. 4) My only negatives to 6210 were the minifigs. Particularly the all-green Jabba and the all-green Gamorean guard. They are printless and it makes them look much older than the rest of the set. I did buy Jabba's Palace and the Rancor Pit... So that makes up for it. I'm still out Max Rebo and Ree Yees... But I suppose I can pick them off later if I want... I didn't have any hesitation pairing the old 6210 with the new palace and pit... ...there is no easy way to bricklink a new nose design, and there was no way I could build it like 75020 was designed and keep a straight face (pun?) As you can tell, the nose design was the "deal breaker" for me.
