LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!
thorin replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Ugh. Why can’t Lego figure out that people want sets that LOOK like the Death Star or CC from the outside... but still have playability and functions on the inside. When they finally do it (system scale MFs, sandcrawler, Ewok village, etc.) they become instant classics and sell like hot cakes... hopefully it looks okay and not like the backside of a doll house. Was it at least instantly recognizable as Bespin??? -

Has anyone heard which sets will be on sale for May the 4th and/or the days surrounding it? All I can find so far in this thread is that Kylo's Tie will be discounted... any others? -

In my city, one Target put them out on the 13th while another still doesn’t have a spot marked out for them... so who knows. I stopped by the first one around 11am on the 13th and they were in the process of putting them on the shelf. S@H has them if you are in the right region... -

Box just arrived with the Vader Pod. I was definitely ho-hum about this promo... boy was I surprised. I wondered if the outer label would be a sticker or printed... it ended up being a plastic "hologram" sticker where if you turn it one way "Star Wars Lego" goes away and if you turn it the other way, the whole image appears. Even better, I thought that the outside shell would be black plastic. Instead it's mirror-finish chrome! I'm glad I grabbed this one. If anyone else is on the fence, it might be worth it after all. Decent video I found showing the finish: -
Desert Skiff and Crispy Anakin transformation. Got the skiff right before it went to Sold Out on S@H... whew.

The atm6 and Kylos tie would be great, but only if we saw a 20% dip. 10% isn’t enough to get excited. -

I agree with roadstermatt Get the Slave 1. While no one knows for sure when sets will retire, it has been on shelves for almost 2 years longer than the snowspeeder. No brainer in my mind... -

US S@H has the new falcon, tie, speeders, etc. all up. No current sales, but $75 of SW bricks will get you the minifigure factory AND vader's pod both as freebies. -

R2-D2 sold out in about 3 days here in the us. It was popular, but I got the feeling that they made quite a few of them since it lasted longer than the 2 promos before it. You can find it for $10-$15 on eBay... exclusive, but not VERY exclusive. Also, the BB8 build doesn’t look nearly as nice as the R2-D2 from last year. That one was great. Nothing against the designer... it’s kind of hard to build a lego sphere at that scale. The 2x VIP points excluded from the Y-wing is a bit of a bummer... I can understand the falcon. My issue... Still upset that I won’t get a Star Wars Lego movie style poster. Pretty jerk move to start making collectors posters of each movie, making 1-7 and then stopping... thanks lego. -

Yeah. It sucks, but I've had to do that one a couple of sets as well. You realize the window is closing (or closed) and you try to get it before it gets ridiculous. I'm guessing it will eventually be closer to $80+ in a year or so... ... plus the Lando is totally worth it. -

Wish I could help. Honestly, I moved it to the “retired” section in my spreadsheet a few months ago. You probably missed your window. Was it a TRU exclusive? You might find it at a brick and mortar TRU near you (on sale) since they are clearing out everything. Otherwise, I think amazon and eBay are your best bets. -

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced." In all seriousness, I'll withhold judgement until I see the build. I ended up being pretty impressed with last years R2-D2 build... -

We still haven’t seen Saw Gerrera. I’m just hoping for a Last Jedi Lego movie poster to go with the other 7 they made... I’m still disappointed we never got a rogue one movie style poster. If they end up making episode 1 through 7 collectible posters and then stop after the force awakens, I’ll be pretty disappointed. It’s such an easy freebie for them to throw in. I doubt it costs them more than 15 cents each in bulk... -

May Lego calendar should get released any day/minute now. Recently they’ve been making rounds on the 1st day of the month prior. Then all our questions will be answered! -

If they are intended to be to-scale with the bb8, it would probably land it around this price point, correct? Aren’t the porgs 1/2 to 1/3 the size of bb8? Or am I wrong on that? -

I sure hope it isn’t like the duel of the fates set... half -$;ed. It needs to be a set similar to the throne room set from a few years ago. Full red walls all around and it can open up... -

I asked this last year as well, but does anyone know if there’s been any talk of a TLJ poster for May the 4th or April 20th? They gave away the force awakens Lego movie poster on May the 4th, 2016... then skipped Rogue one last year (boooooooooo). This spring would likely be when they would do TLJ, but I’m worried that with the Solo movie they will skip/abandon doing the posters... which is a shame to stop now since they’ve made them for movies 1 through 7... -

I agree. And the MF is more desirable after seeing the removable nose, but IF I buy this MF, I may have to promise myself (and the wife) that it will be my last. There are just too many of them. -

I was thinking the same thing. I know a lot of people will be disappointed by another UCS ywing, but personally, I’m glad they are rereleasing some of the iconic sets from the past. I wouldn’t want it to become “the norm,” but ships like the xwing, ywing and snowspeeder make sense as repeats... IMHO. -

Hard to claim he’s a 9 year old kid when he’s been a member for 11 years... (as of yesterday). BTW: Happy Anniversary SVL. Also of note... he only has 500+ posts, averaging only around 50 posts a year. He’s obviously not on here to flap his lips and spread rumors. He only says what he needs to say. Something that is admirable, and isn’t typical of a 9 year old kid. -

Thank you! I’ll probably aim for 16” deep unless you guys think 18” would be better/safer? -

Looking to fabricate some built-in cabinets/display cases for all of my sets. Anyone have any suggestions or opinions on a good cabinet depth? Other than the UCS MF, is there a typical depth that people have found works well for them? Anyone with a large (built) collection willing to run around with a tape measure and give me a good idea of a typical large set depth? Shelves will be adjustable in the height direction, and will be continuous in the width of the shelf.. so depth appears to be the limiting factor. Thanks! -
I finally got mine about 3 weeks ago... bought the falcon on day 1...
