DC Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
RedHoodPug replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
So with the new CMF revealed I can gladly say that o I’ll be grabbing a few: dolphin and crab for Aquaman, the Space Cops legs as the best fit for Peacemaker, the violin for the Fiddler, the alien head for the GLC, the plane for Plastic Man and the flying helmet for Johnny Cloud, the centaur piece for Shazam/Wonder Woman mythology, the Jaguar warrior for the ubiquitous museum, and the beekeeper because, well Bumblebee deserves a fitting villain. Failing that my Rita Farr can wear it. All in all a good run. Oh, and the pug cos, you know. -
At most a stylised S, but that could be built in.
-
And they have Courtney, some of the leg work is done already.

Now there I can agree. Trouble is I get carried away with who should be immortalised next. I love the notion of the All Star Squadron uniting teams like the JSA and the Seven Soldiers. Then there’s the deep cuts like the back ups in World’s Finest, with old Ghost Patrol stories, or the awkward Grim/Gay Ghost. I’m currently working on a Blackhawk Skyrocket, and mulling between a decent scale and a more Lego-based minifigure scale. It’s a toss up between looking right and overshadowing the Javelin. I’m more inclined to using the Joker Lowrider as a size reference. Haunted Tank, the Sky Rocket Racer, S.T.R.I.P.E. and Starro are in the pipeline.

Both Atomic Skulls debuted in Superman titles and is considered a Superman villain. He’s fought others including Firestorm, but that doesn’t change his primary adversary. The comics industry isn’t a monolith, and the general consensus is that Flash is 4th at best. In that Lego set Lord is a villain as he is based on the film character, who is a villain. He has a shady past, not all his fault, but retrospectively saying that he shouldn’t have been a villain doesn’t change that. Anyway, he killed Ted! It has a certain amount to do with the number of villains, otherwise you wouldn’t have listed one for the entirety of the X-Men and a whole heap for Flash. I’m not denying the range of character depth, nor whether their creation possibly inspired that of others. Gardner Fox did a heck of a lot, full stop. It’s not a contest of knowledge, and I can happily and openly say that in over thirty years of interest in the subject, I still have much to learn, mainly because I’m a fan of the more obscure corners of DC. To be honest I am struggling to find a Flash Rogue vehicle that could in any way be considered as iconic as the owner, or fit for a Lego set. The DC Super Hero line has been blessed with a bank, an energy plant, an alley, Arkham, various parts of Wayne Manor/Batcave, a very small bit of rooftop, a Lazarus Pit, Joker’s Fun House and a Fair Ground. Some of them struggle to constitute a building, and most of them fail to fulfil the basic premise of iconic location. We definitely merit more buildings. Unless I’m missing anyone there’s Cold, both Boomerangs, Grodd, Trickster II, and Reverse Flash/Zoom (it’s not clear which it definitely is). However, given the imbalance in the Trinity’s rogues, I feel that Flash has done well so far. Me, I’m character greedy and fickle with it. There’s a whole heap of untapped Western, War, and Sci-Fi characters that would translate well into minifigure form, not to mention the Ages and different Earths, and the range of builds to accompany them is really diverse. I’m slowly working on purist building them, but it’s a long haul job.

I think you’ve given some of the other galleries short shrift there, but having a lot of adversaries doesn’t necessarily mean that they make the greatest RG. A quick search puts Flash’s villains in 4th or 7th. The Shade is historically Jay Garrick’s rogue and then not fully committed to a life of crime. Atomic Skull is only a Flash villain in the TV show, otherwise he’s predominantly a Superman foil. Also an integral part of a Lego set is the build, and seeing as they seem to prefer vehicles to buildings there isn’t a lot of scope in that area. I can think of the Flash van from the JL TV series, which was solely for NSFW purposes, the Cosmic Treadmill, which isn’t much of a build challenge, or the Cosmic Motorcycle, even less so. Flash currently has the second highest number of rogues in DC Lego form already, possibly tied with Supes unless you include Lobo and Darkseid as specific Superman villains. Wonder Woman gets Cheetah, big lumbering Ares and Max Lord whether you like it or not, and the four GLs have Sinestro. Aquaman has two, and Shazam and the LoSH have no one. Even Firestorm, Nightwing, and Batgirl have villain representation. Now don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of good customs out there showing us what we’re missing in the purist world, but there are loads of characters that are underrepresented in this line. If we got a quarter of the attention SW gets I would be happy. Stormtroopers get more love than most Super Hero figs.

@cosmic welcome to the forum. I feel that your views are similar to many DC fans. Cost has a lot to do with the direction of the theme, but where other limitations come from is unclear. We’ve definitely had the best years of the theme, but I don’t write it off as there’s clearly still some love for it out there. The CMF was and is a very good series, bulking out a couple of teams whilst giving a nod to the legacy. The power blasts come in packs rather than as individual pieces, and granted Sinestro would benefit from them, but they consequently wouldn’t be put into blind bags. Additionally the yearning for a significant Lantern set has been around for a long time. Huntress would have benefited more from a hairpiece similar to Batwoman’s, but I reckon that would have stretched the budget. I think the belt printing idea is good but there will be reasons why they don’t. Ditto leg prints, it’s not that long ago that we would have had it, but when Batman doesn’t have a great track record himself it’s unlikely that Batwoman would get them. I have yet to pick up the Mobile Bat Base but I will be happy when I do. Batgirl’s is one of her most recent iterations and has very small ears poking out of her hair. Bronze Tiger is also one of his most recent looks, and as such is a pretty good match. Personally for me I would rather see a physical appearance of the claws from the games, as the mask is available on the secondary market. Regarding Freeze, I use a combination of the three previous versions anyway, and the current one is definitely an improvement on the very first one. I understand your frustrations, and it’s the reason why I’m in the process of designing a Blackhawk Skyrocket, to be followed up with a S.T.R.I.P.E. suit and a Starro. I have a list the length of my arm of other builds, but time and budget are many an AfoL’s kryptonite. -

It’s not being attacked, but it’s not being countenanced either. The reason a lot of us said something is because we disagree, but I wouldn’t call it an attack. The Thanoscopter is a joke idea because it’s such a kitsch product of it’s time that it’s now an icon in its own right, hence the odd mention now and again. Let’s face it, given Lego’s penchant for 4x4s, mechs and helicopters, it’s not the most unlikely thing to envisage in Lego. As for not being the bread and butter, they are the butter to the heroes’ collective bread. -

There’s loads of vehicles, locations, gadgets, masks, and other costume accessories that they could do to a D2C price point, it’s more that a lot of them aren’t front and centre familiar or featured in big films so much, so the risk would be too great. It has to be said I never saw a Burton Batmobile coming, let alone the Batwing to accompany it. -

Skeleton, Mumm-Ra, Vader, Joker, Megatron, Tex Hex, Captain Hook, Miles Mayhem and countless others would like a word. Heck, even the younger kids stuff has bad guys, like Romeo, Night Ninja and Lunar Girl from PJ Masks and Mayor Humdinger from Paw Patrol. Kids like the bad guys so that the good guys have someone to beat up. Battle features would be meaningless and the Ghostbusters would be four strange men with pointless backpacks. -
I like the hat/hair combo, to me the face looks more like Angela Lansbury. Anyone with a Bedknobs and Broomsticks MOC will be happy.

As always a cracking build. My favourite has to be the repurposed frying pans. I know it’s not meant to but it lends a sort of make do and mend flavour, like Bats was having a bit of a salvage day.

Not just the Batman, but the whole slate. The film industry needs to work together to come up with a home streaming service because it’s going to be a long time before the cinema industry is worth anything. I’ll be focusing on MOCs and comics for the foreseeable. -

The mods on January 1, it saves having lots of threads talking about the same thing. -
You’ll find a licensed custom page here. It’s a bit dormant these days, but it’s there.

So James Gunn and John Cena have a Peacemaker series lined up. Not gonna lie, I want that ridiculous helmet in Lego. Nice to see Charlton being represented. My ambitious Crisis display is a very small step closer to plausible. -
Noice! A worthy upgrade.
-
This?

Very nice, good representation of the angles and instantly recognisable to my 6 year old, well done.
-
I wonder how this compares to the future Potter sets.

Well, I like the goon jacket, that’s a nice one to have. I like the wall mounted feature too, that’s bold. It would be interesting to see how long it is capable of doing that before undue stress on the piece caused issues. -

Eeps, that is a quiet run if true. Hopefully there’ll be an influx of other sets because DC has a good looking slate of movies coming up and frankly the franchise needs a bit of extra. -
Have you not seen the trivial things that make up the 600+ pages of the Harry Potter thread? Moulds are an obvious point of discussion, but the makeup of the roster is just as important. Lego is all about diversity, and this is one IP where one form of diversity is lacking (gender), but is rife in others (mental disorders, speech disorders, tics, quirks, and fetishes). As it is difficult to represent the latter in a visual (or sympathetic) form, they will need to put emphasis on the former. It’s just as relevant.
-
I’d go with Granny and Tweety, as Sylvester can have an accessory for when he tries to get Tweety off her. I just had a look at the roster, and essentially it’s Granny, Witch Hazel, Miss Prissie, Penelope Pussycat, and variations of Bugs’s girlfriend against a whole heap of male characters. To be fair though, not many of them are particularly aspirational. Except Marvin.
