DC Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
RedHoodPug replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Indeed, but as adaptable sets go this is a lot closer to the Planet than the HoJ. Personally I’d rather have the Hall of Doom as well as bookend sets. -

I’m tempted to buy one and convert it to the Planet, and harvest various figures for what I want. -

Well I was right about the height but not the build style. Modular it is, in a way that hides the tiers. Hammy’s there, but not in the car. Miles too. -

Never. It’s set in stone to never be changed under any circumstances, no matter how dated it seems nor how many better suited pieces there are. They had a special meeting about it and everything. I believe blood oaths were taken. -

I estimate it being ~70cm high, up to the top of the mast. The windows and panels make it just under 60cm on their own, then add the framework, the lettering and the mast. It’s a big boy. -

Look at the two side by side. If one hasn’t influenced the other it’s a mighty big coincidence. Might have to find me a Monkie Kid now and introduce him to Shazam. From a distance of course. -

It’s big, folks. Without the lettering on the top it looks to be approximately 66 bricks high. Those are 3 high grey panels x4 and 2 high clear panels x20, plus others on the top and bottom. Overall with the aerial it’s got to be over 70 bricks high, which given that a brick is 0.96mm high, isn’t much under 70cm. Width is then 16 plus the frame, so I guess 21, and depth likewise 12 plus frame so 16. I can’t see any logical places where the floors would separate a la modular buildings, and there’s no discernible hinge on the leading corner. Assuming it’s dolls house style the hinge must be on the back, unless it’s open. Whatever is going on with the left hand side, those are definitely wheels on the building. -

The smallest unit of time has to be the difference between a set leak and the first disappointed comment. -

Wow, thanks Lego, way to make DC fans feel inadequate. I really like it, but the fire escape bothers me. It’s not the colour but the choice of barrier. Something more like this would be less bulky. Other than that, the character selection is ace. -

Yep, it’s entirely possible to change the output of the theme without stopping it. They aren’t running a continuous stream of products, they’re working on sales data, customer response, brand popularity, and the subsequent designated budget. DC has these weird creative restrictions like you can’t use certain characters in this live action series because they might appear in this cartoon at some point in the future. IP ownership has been responsible for some of that, granted. They’ve also got a massive roster to draw from, and a long legacy. The last run of Justice League sets were clearly tie-ins for the JLA cartoon, but weren’t obviously so. Teen Titans Go is one of their most successful brands, yet all Lego had were two Dimensions sets. They seem to have found a niche with the adult oriented Batmobiles, and they could do really well with that if they manage it properly and have faith in it. It’s no secret that Marvel is the bigger brand right now, but DC is the only one that can combat that. Marvel was lucky to have a linchpin in Stan Lee and his Ego sized ego to weaponise and characterise teenage angst, as well as the artistic prowess of Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko to bring them to life. DC had the talent, but their direction was entirely different and the current leadership needs to utilise that properly. DC has also been wracked with rumours of the company folding, creative disputes, and suffers from indifferent ownership. It’s going to be a rough road, but companies have come back from worse. I don’t believe a hiatus in a toy line is the answer. -

Well he was, but Lego don’t do a toupee to go on top of the bald piece It’s an homage to Pat Benatar, much like the Milano was named after Alyssa Milano, Quill’s childhood crush. -

This is welcome news. Now the obvious question is who comes in it. I’m confident Batman will. -

I don’t know, to me it kind of cheapens the exclusivity of the OG. I can understand the 1989 set, because the previous large scale model was a product of it’s time. The Tumbler isn’t that old and other than stabilising some of the panels and the ailerons, or adding the pod, I’m not sure what they can do to change it significantly enough to justify it. I get that people missed the first one, but it’s not like the secondary market doesn’t exist and I’ve seen them sell for reasonable prices. To me a remake isn’t the next in line set, it’s a few down the road when some newer ones have been done. There are so many Batmobiles that could have come before this was remade. -

It’ll be a while before the market dies down so that those of us who want the (potentially) smaller one and not the bigger one can get it at a reasonable price. I like that first one but it’s so big as to be nonsensical. Smaller would be better. The only temptation to get the D2C will be if they excel themselves and fit the pod in there somehow, and add in better figures. I quite like my Ledger Joker, and unless a new cowl mould miraculously appears I’m quite happy with the Batman. Catwoman, Scarecrow or Two-Face turn up, and I would reconsider. I can’t help but wonder what sets like this do to the value of the original ones. -

I can’t justify another Tumbler to sit next to the original one. If there’s a GWP scaled down version I will be bloody annoyed, because the first one is massive and really costly to buy. What a curious choice. -

It’s not excuse making, it’s not cult-level loyalty. It’s being able to look at a set and not determine it’s value on the number or quality of the minifigures. It’s also not getting in a strop because a set doesn’t live up to expectations, because I don’t have expectations for a luxury product. -

Whether they are characters or not they add to the feel of the build - a panda nursery without pandas could be anything, and the moulds still contribute to the cost of the set. Take the new City sets for example. If you were pricing out that set you would factor in the elephants and crocodile, because without them it’s a ridiculously expensive set. Also if they aren’t characters, what are they? -

All we get is a very simplistic data sheet that lets us know what Lego wants us to know. Their sales figures are so heavily guarded as to be mythical. -

You do realise where you are writing that? Acting like the world’s going to end and not giving things a chance before it’s been seen is par for the course. -

That’s scarcely solid proof though, that’s word of mouth from one employee in one global store. There will be certain protocols that will be dependent upon the store’s location in the world, and the particular country. There will be global and national economic considerations. There will be comparisons to other waves. There will be the extraordinary consideration that the series came out on the brink of a global crisis which led to economic crises and mass store closure, which subsequently will have meant that their shelf life will have been shortened. The only ways to know for certain how well the series did is look at the company sales figures (borderline impossible), and wait to see if a second series comes out. If we don’t see or hear of one by the end of 2023, I think it’s safe to say that it’s dead. -

My wife found them in Tesco. My daughter wanted the mermaid beatbox and a band mate, which turned out to be the ice cream guy, which she was really stoked about.

Assuming that Bucky is going to have that similar torso as he had before, I shall be interested in him for Blackhawk uniforms. Depending on which Cap Carter appears where, I’ll be after the torso with the flag design. I’m also interested in how Spider Cap and Falcon turn out. I’m more interested in this series than Looney Tunes, for certain.
