That makes me feel old. My childhood memories of them were the old ones repeated a lot until Animaniacs turned up.

DC Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
RedHoodPug replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
What a putz, I completely forgot that we got a Beware the Batman set. I’ll bypass Classic Batman as that was a nostalgia trip. And then I’ll deliberately forget that the last Justice League sets were inspired by Justice League Action. I totally agree that Teen Titans/Young Justice is ripe for sets. The T-Car, the T-Jet, the Super Cycle, and brick built versions of the likes of Cinderblock, Shrapnel, Chemo, and Plasmus are all ripe for sets. -
Fair enough. Last thing I saw was Animaniacs with Pinky and the Brain. Alright it’s not exactly balanced, but it’s a little less one sided.

I guess it’s a generation thing. I never saw her debut, nor have I ever seen anything she’s been in, but I’ve heard that she’s quite an empowered character. I do think that quite an awkward decision was made regarding her look recently, however.

DC Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

It’s only been a recent occurrence that sets based on TV shows have been made. Big Bang Theory, Friends, Stranger Things, The Mandolorian, Sesame Street, the Flintstones, Adventure Time (any more?), are all recent sets. Only one of those isn’t from Ideas and even then it’s Star Wars based, and a certain amount are based on nostalgia. There were a few Dimensions sets based on TV properties, but they didn’t translate into fully blown sets. Whether there’s been a block on TV shows and that’s the reason I don’t know, but I wouldn’t be surprised. DC output is in a bit of a low spot at the moment, hopefully with the next slew of films interest will be renewed. Still holding out for a Peacemaker minifigure! -
Indeed it is. However the level of upset is suggestive of a lack of solution. I have not said that anyone is losing sleep, I have said that adults are upset about it. I understand the annoyance and support the right and the ability to express that, but I don’t see it as a problem that can’t be fixed. There are excellent sets out there that still get modified because that’s what Lego allows you to do as a medium. Otherwise nothing would get recoloured and put into a new set. I’ll occasionally buy sets for something other than their intended purpose, because with a little bit of playing around they’ll suit a purpose, and they haven’t been made in the theme I usually buy. Lego hasn’t and probably never will make sets of things I’d like, but I don’t sit and grumble that there’s nothing to be done, I set about creating them myself. There will be people who will be really happy with these sets, and others such as yourselves who already aren’t. Lego can’t satisfy both camps. I’d say to a degree you’re also paying for Lego’s collaboration with the owner of the IP. Without that the designer would have nothing to create, and you would have nothing to build.

Again this is subjective stuff. One of the big selling points of Lego is that the customer can adapt the set if it doesn’t please them. Changing sets happens all the time, whether someone has an eye for detail, needs the set to fit in a particular space, wants to create a bigger scene, wants to make it their own, or has kids who like using their imagination. You’ve got a product designed to not be restrained by its very design, and they openly welcome MOCs. They have a way of doing things, hence the Ideas projects never look like the submissions. By making it “unofficial” you are making it yours, and unless you physically discard the parts you change then you haven’t devalued it. I just don’t get this. The whole point of Lego is that they create a set that they think people will like, but can change if they want to. Perhaps I’m missing something.

Are they not anniversary sets, based on the ones produced 20 years ago? The intended effect would surely be nostalgia, not compliance with the more vocal fans’ aesthetic demands. Weak, poor, and inaccurate are all subjective terms, and being a fan of the product doesn’t automatically entitle you to be arbiters of a well designed set. We all know that there are creative, financial, and executive constraints on all sets. There was a project goal - anniversary sets to commemorate 20 years of Lego Harry Potter - and the path to that goal would have been very carefully mapped out. If anyone involved had concerns, they would have been addressed. How privileged it is to be upset that your favourite theme isn’t meeting your specific demands. It’s like the extreme level of hype that went on yesterday over the name of a Marvel set. I’m sure that the A stands for Adult, but it certainly doesn’t seem like it at times.
-
All the upset about the anniversary sets not looking like the current sets, if only there was some way a Lego set could be modified to suit the end user’s ideal.

Sorry for the long delay, I thought I had replied With his ADHD his interests are many and varied, and come and go with the wind. Right now he’s not into it, but it’ll come around again and he’ll be full on, set up the whole thing and play it continuously. I agree with the time block, as we’ve got a course that fills up half of the dining table and everything has to be involved.

In one respect yes, with a series of 12 they have to work a lot harder to refine the series. As much as I enjoyed it I think 16 was a bold number and it led to fatigue, particularly in the regular series. If it started off with 12 they could have spun it out a lot further and it would have pushed them to up their game. I think Pepe has as much right to be on the roster as some of the other Toons, if not more. Assuming it’s a one off, we should see Bugs with carrot, Daffy with a mallet, Porky with his cap (not sure what accessories he would have), Sylvester, Elmer ideally with the old pirate musket but this is 2021 so I guess a scythe, Taz with a Ninjago like spinner, Sam with a pair of pistols, and Wiley. Marvin we know about, hopefully he comes with K-9, at least a ray gun or one of his Illudium devices. I would think that Tweety is coming, but I still don’t think that he’ll be his own figure. I reckon he’ll come with Granny, and if we get Speedy he’ll come with Sylvester. To continue the theme I don’t see Roadrunner coming as a minifigure, and he’ll be in with Wiley. That’s 10 spots. The remaining characters are all in the same area regarding popularity or recognition. To better the ratio I am going with Witch Hazel, but I’m not convinced that she’ll translate into brick form that well. On the plus side for Lego she could be made with existing parts. That makes 11. At this stage there’s Pepe, Foghorn, Gossamer, or Lola. I don’t know enough about Lola to gauge her popularity, nor whether they would go for a gender swap or a different character. Gossamer I think is a bit too obscure. Foghorn could come with Henery Hawk. Pepe could come with flowers and a bottle of perfume. I’d like both Pepe and Foghorn, but I don’t think we’ll be afforded that luxury. My main concern is that in order to accommodate the smaller characters there’s a lot of new moulds, and whether they go ahead with that. On a related note, I would like to see a Wiley and Roadrunner set with loads of ACME products and rocks. At the very least I want him with a sign saying “In Heaven’s name, what am I doing?”

And you think that’s how Lego has ever compiled a licensed CMF, by popularity? Now come on, we both know the answer to that.
-
Do you know how little I care for Mer-Batman? Yet there he stands among the other Batmen, completing a set. I would hazard that there are less desirable characters than the above that have already been made into minifigures.
-
More than once. The whole point of the character was that he, like the rest of the LT crew, were parodies of personalities and personality types. Chuck Jones based Pepe on a friend of his who thought he was all things to all women. With any luck someone will see the light, much like when the League of United Latin American Citizens petitioned to have Speedy Gonzales reinstated. It will be interesting to see if he appears, or whether he has ever destined to. It would be a shame if there was another knee jerk reaction.

Rip Hunter, Booster Gold, Animal Man and a Time Sphere, taking on Vandal Savage and Per Degaton. Birds of Prey vs Secret Six Alternatively the Six vs the Society A Fourth World set with Orion and Lightray vs Kalibak, another with Barda rescuing Scott from the Furies Lashina, Mad Harriet and Stompa. A classic set of the original Justice League taking on Starro. A Lantern Corps battle, better still a few to cover all colours. Also construct sets with 1/2 lanterns and appropriate transparent bricks. A Crisis range from Crisis on Two Earths to Death Metal, including CoIE, Flashpoint, and Convergence. Creature Commandos on Dinosaur Island Thats just spitballing -
That’s the TLBM Poison Ivy skirt. I would be extremely surprised if they choose to reuse that for Marvin. In fact the comments say a different piece is coming with him.

As much as I would appreciate that, it isn’t going to happen any time soon. For one DC has never owned the rights to Green Hornet, for another there’s nothing currently out there to suggest that he’s hot property. The little known crossovers wouldn’t be grounds enough to produce it. -
Marvin only appeared five times in the early years, and we know he’s coming. Turns out guest villains (as they would have been) were used quite sparingly. I never realised that it was that sparingly.

You got a source for that? And by that I don’t mean some YouTube attention seeker or a comics page with a quote from a disgruntled former employee? Honestly I like reading comics and I like reading about them, but fan sites and supposed insider sites have an appalling reputation when it comes to verifiable news. Can we steer this back towards Lego inspired by comics? The last thing this thread needs is a 24 hour foot up the big behind like the Harry Potter one. -
I had it in my mind that his torso was black, I don’t know why. I think it must be that he looks odd without the skirt. Angry face, maybe just a few shirt wrinkles. Either way, Marvin!
-
Having bought our son LB3 for Christmas, I second that. If not I’ll mod him without the mask. Torso isn’t right, is it? Other than that, it’s Marvin. This doesn’t make me very angry

Meh, in 1979 Kenner bought the toy rights to Alien. I know which one I’d be happier showing to my son. -

The Disney CMF series has featured the Cheshire Cat and Alice. Nobody needs to be qualified in anything to know that taking photos of nude children is wrong. The Burton films were made with this knowledge in hand. That isn’t the issue. I would say Disney has the upper hand on this one, and there’s little else to it. Who knows why Hush has never been done. -
He was too busy crowing about Macedonia’s considerably normal and well regulated copyright laws to read it through
-
I honestly couldn’t disagree with you more on all of that. Given how many countries have standard copyright laws, I will desist from further comment. @Lego-Freak has covered the rest.
