I've had a Bricklink shipment from Lithuania (final drop by Royal Mail) which came through without issue. LEGO will already be registered for VAT in the UK so any issues will purely be DPD's incompetence.

How common are missing pieces?
Kalahari134 replied to Joseph Barker's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Shamelessly bumping as I had quite an unusual piece substitution. I've just finished building Downtown Diner and found that from the fifth set of bags I was short of one of the eight of 11203 in light bley. I did all of the usual checks and decided that it wasn't stuck in any of the bags and hadn't been dropped (thanks to the tray my parents got me for Christmas). Yet among the extra small parts let over at the end of the build was one of 3743 in black. This is a part of which the set had twelve, all of whom were from the fourth set of bags and were all on the model. I also noticed that absent from the fifth bag's extra parts was a 1x1 plate in tan. The missing parts totalled 0.82g in weight, the extra part weighs 0.79g. I think that I can see how the bag passed the weighbridge in quality control. Replacement request for the inverted tile duly sent. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Kalahari134 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Parisian Restaurant hung around for a while. I think that whether they decide to do additional production runs is purely based on sales. Town Hall didn't last very long. -
You are mistaken, this isn't the first set to have contained a typewriter. Film projectors are also obsolete as digital has taken over. But yes, pneumatic tubes aren't exactly widely known to the public. I think that a post office would be best suited to a half-modular along the lines of Pet Shop or Bookstore. Post Office downstairs (including telegraph room if you like) and an apartment upstairs. The other 16w building would be some new kind of townhouse. For something different, why not make it a 16w corner shop? This has some interesting exterior features: Bailgate Post Office, Lincoln, UK Not everything in the Modular Street has to have a grand façade, there's nothing wrong with having a few simpler shops for the slightly cheaper end of the High Street. Detective Office, Pet Store etc. do this well.

Maybe my intreptation of this is wrong, but...
Kalahari134 replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Town
The first two in particular seem to be too much of a coincidence to me. -
I'm not sure if it's big enough for me. I may feel forced to buy two...

Surely an Italian building should be accompanied by three British Minis and a set of traffic lights. -

Modern banks don't use typewriters. The LEGO one does. -

A proper hotel would be nice (even with an interior, Café Corner is very much a budget offering). However, like others on this thread I'd love something new. Police station, school, hospital etc. -
You've really captured the curves well.

Is TLG now definitely phasing out baseplates?
Kalahari134 replied to merman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I rebuild my corner modulars to fill up the full 32 plate so that the pavements can go on the road plates. Palace Cinema is much improved by this, it's a much more substantial building. -

What is most at risk of retiring next? I think I'm going to have to sell the car... -

I'm gutted that the aquarium missed out. I can't see me buying any of these. -
You've just dragged up a topic that hadn't been posted in for three years.

To be paired with this crocodile, wouldn't it have to be Dark Green? I'd love to see train windows back in any colour.

I was thinking more of a pneumatic solenoid valve. -

A Powered up pneumatic switch. So that pneumatics can be controlled by a Hub. An S motor for small builds. -
I like it but think it would've been better to separate the drop tower and haunted house into two different sets. Just imagine what fun they could've had with motorising animatronics like they did the doors if it was a dedicated haunted house.

It's quite simple. V = 5000 M = 1000 V = 5 I = 1 I = 1 5000+1000+5+1+1 = 6007

(moc) British 5AT Advanced Technology Steam Locomotive
Kalahari134 replied to SteamSewnEmpire's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You vastly underestimate just how much steam there is in the UK. On average, there is one tour running every day somewhere in the UK, with several on weekends. Then add in the Jacobite which runs twice a day during the summer and the countless heritage and commercial tourist railways again running daily services. One near me has at least five locos in steam every day during the summer. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Kalahari134 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Hardly, all it had was a sign reading "Hotel". No reception, no beds, no lift with scissor gates... It was no more a hotel than DO was a police station. -
All UK trains must display a red light on the rear. A traditional paraffin tail lamp looks like this but could be painted white, red or black. Usually only one would be carried, though two would be carried on the Royal Train and on slip coaches: https://c8.alamy.com/comp/F3EBNE/mark-1-railway-carriage-tail-light-F3EBNE.jpg A modern, battery tail light (which flashes to save power) was introduced in the '80s. Some do have red reflectors: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_10_2012/post-9382-0-52245300-1349223715.jpg Because unfitted freight trains had a habit of separating, goods brake vans used to carry side lamps as well which showed a red light to the rear and a white light ahead so that the driver could look back and check that the train was complete. Again, they could be painted white, red or black depending on the company: https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images4/360/0515/17/br-railway-brake-van-side-lamp_360_e156df5e727ba92b61252b2789d037cf.jpg When in a loop or on a slow line adjacent to a main line, the guard would remove one of the filters so that two red and one white light would be seen by any overtaking trains, so that they didn't confuse it for a signal: https://www.oliviastrains.com/wp-content/files_mf/1480973632Brake1Goods2.jpg Modern freight trains are fully fitted so only carry a single modern battery lamp. A shunting locomotive must display a white AND a red light at each end.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Kalahari134 replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
I'd agree that a Town Hall wouldn't be in keeping with the setting. What about a Village Hall though? Just a simple, small building with enough room for a choir to perform. -
It's like a rapid transit system, such as that used at Birmingham Airport.

Finally! No more taking bits from lower floors when dismantling modulars.
