Thanks both. I wouldn't want it too soon anyway, my bathroom needs refitting and that Hogwarts Express cost a bomb.
-
I was wondering if anyone knew how long past projects had taken.

Getting back to the subject of Lego trains (you know, actual Lego), does anyone familiar with the Ideas process know how long it'll take to develop the Orient Express?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

That reminds me of the amusements arcade in St Ives. There was a shooting gallery where when you hit the target, the pirate mannequins would squirt water at passers by. -

Oi! What's wrong with the hotel? -
I would do the locomotive in a single colour, rather than having tan parts. Otherwise the crew will be forever cleaning the soot off:

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Train fans have been asking for expansion packs (i.e. extra wagons) for years now. -
Looks like it would run on narrow gauge track without difficulty
-
Construction would seem to be the obvious choice. A couple of open wagons with some grey studs for ballast, a road-rail digger, and a track panel carrying wagon. Otherwise, how about a coach which has been converted into a restaurant?
-
Well the MOT wagons generally had 120-220 pieces which seems to point towards a price range of less than £15.
-
Creator Expert though, instructions can be more complex in general.
-
Well at least they're designing from real life then.
-
I like the loco on the cargo train, and the open wagon. The car carrier doesn't really work, minifigure proportions mean that it is oversized.
-
Loving that we've got proper brick-built cabs on both sets this year, the designers have done well.
-
By 65537 I meant that it should be aimed at Creator market, rather than Creator Expert. Still using the large wheels (with or without rods included, obviously quartering is a tricky one to include in the instructions).

Here is a photograph of a freight yard I found online. How many different colours can you spot. https://www.bigstockphoto.com/image-308850763/stock-photo-freight-trains-on-city-cargo-terminal-railways-in-train-parking-arain-arrived-at-the-station-carg

An individual wagon sold. Not My Own Train numbers of sets, just one individual carriage or wagon sold per year to supplement the main sets. And can we please see a steam train? Nothing fancy, not Creator Expert, more of a 65537 sort of set.

I'm concerned about my own waste. The pieces I buy don't end up as plastic pollution because they are almost infinitely reusable. The packaging on the other hand gets disposed of - cardboard through kerbside recycling collection, and the plastic ends up in general waste. Actually a life cycle analysis will tell you that an electric car still has a smaller footprint than an equivalent ICE one. Not that it affects me, my bicycle has a tiny footprint compared with either.

Maybe he's been privatised

I do like the look of the new locomotive pictured, it would make a very good passenger locomotive and resembles the EuroSprinter design used by several operators across Europe. I'm actually thinking of going and buying a couple of 60197s (nearest store has a 30% discount on them) to mod into push-pull sets, with the added bonus that I end up with two spare sets of batteries and motors.
-
No, I'm very glad that LEGO are moving away from single-use plastic packaging towards paper internal bags.
-
Accurate? Was it built by Picasso?
-
Back in the day it would have all been done in-house. The facilities at the likes of Doncaster and Crewe were immense.

My Own Train obviously took things too far (the list of individual sets released in one year was absurd), but if they could just offer ONE carriage or wagon sold individually, that would be great. I've bought two copies of 7939 mostly for the wagons, I'm looking around for further individual copies of those wagons to boost my fleet too. 60098 and 60198 have good locos and at least one good wagon apiece but I don't want to end up with a fleet of helicopters or cranes. One is quite enough. As an AFoL, PoweredUp is an immensely versatile system. However it's really expensive which could put parents off. How about having a non-powered train (to which a motor and battery could later be added by the consumer) compatible with the rest of the system? Would be a good "gateway drug".
