Have you any videos of a six-car train running with the track modifications you describe?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Kalahari134 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
As long as no one suggests "railway station". How would you even fit such a thing into 32x32 where both ends are blocked? -
My only gripe with this set is the lack of train windows. It looks like we are unlikely to be seeing anymore of them. Lack of magnets it no issue (I use bar couplings anyway) and I like the brick-built buffers. The loco could be better but all the parts are there to mod two sets into a proper loco leaving you with some useful spares and an extra carriage. Leaving out track and PF is also good because it brings down the price to one that non-train fans would be willing to pay which may encourage them into the train line.

I agree that there is nothing wrong with a red and white scheme. If only the existing sets matched though. The ferris wheel should be quite straightforward to convert to red and white but the carousel would be quite a challenge to change. Not impossible though, I think I may well change the rest of my fairground at some point.
-
In the same way I wish the tracks were medium blue instead of red to match it to the previous two sets. Not sure I can justify spending an entire weeks pay on one set either.
-
I'm not quite sold on the colour. I'd only just got used to the blue.

We're not arguing against minifigures, just where the rest of the set is minimal with the focus only on a couple of minifigures. Battle packs and city people packs are fine too, as we would all like to bulk out our population.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Kalahari134 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Hear, hear. In my view, buildings need to be a minimum of 16w to function (unless anyone can come up with a narrower one that still manages to have a proper staircase etc.). When I can, I'll be getting hold of a second BB to make it into a proper corner building (it has this impressive facade and yet you go around the corner and the rest is tiny. Having done this, I'll be rebuilding the laundrette. Stories should certainly be left to the end user. The proposal in PR is fine as you can always just leave out the ring part if you don't want to do it, the minifigures can have other uses. The cheque in the BB is OK too but the robbery thing is pushing it. The PC premiere theme is a bit borderline too, I'd rather just ditch the car and have a generic night at the movies. Talking of cars, I quite agree that unless a car is essential, it should be left out. I'm not really sure that a hypothetical police station needs a car either as unlike a fire engine these are usually kept outside. -
I think it was more about the timing than the colour of the heads. Star Wars figures were among the first that could be considered to be "collectable" compared with the more generic ones seen beforehand, more so when the colour changed.

I was more thinking of copying the layout rather than using full-size components. 3mm LEDs should suffice.
-
Having some of the larger animals slowly swim around would be nice but it's not very practical for dolphins as they are in a jumping pose. The best thing to do lighting-wise would be to look at a real aquarium and see how tyey arramge their lighting. Then hide a few LEDs and solder them up.
-
It isn't really any different to people who talk about a flock of "sheeps". Sure, we shouldn't fall out over minutiae but every time I hear it, it sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard.
-
Yes but when you are bringing things in by the container load, the amount of handling is substantially reduced compared with individual parcels. Tariffs will also play a big part.

Doors in this country must be of a contrasting colour to the rest of the bodywork. Swing doors are still in use in many places. A sliding plug mechanism wouldn't be impossible though.
-
Same happened to me. Transatlantic shipping isn't cheap!
-
As I understand it, that is to make the instructions clearer when a mass of the same colour would make everything just blend into one. Creator Expert instead outlines things in yellow.
-
They probably call their vacuum cleaner a "Hoover", their sticky notes "Post-its" and say that they are "Googling" something even if they are using Yahoo. Just like a lot of people.
-
I'd be surprised if there was another fairground set so soon after the last one, the designers are only allowed to introduce so many new sets each year in Creator Expert. There were two years between the ferris wheel and the carousel. When it does come, it probably will be a roller coaster. It was almost implied in the recent interview that they had a design ready to go but the parts weren't ready for production so the Carousel came first. To be honest, my budget still has some catching up to do anyway.

That's true, anything that moves will attract attention. What they might prefer to buy though when looking at a picture on a box may be different. I certainly think that the lack of a simple steam train in the range doesn't really help.

How did you come out of your Dark Ages?
Kalahari134 replied to LegoModularFan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I worked the 2016 season at Legoland Windsor. The first discount allowance went to family but my contract got extended into Jan 2017 and I got three modular buildings plus the ferris wheel. No longer there so am now having to pay full whack plus catch up on lost time with the older modulars.- 62 replies

That's exactly my point. Quite a few people bought the Christmas train who would not otherwise have looked twice at trains. They did it because it fitted in with their other sets. The city train sets don't really integrate with the rest of the line, if they had sets that looked like they fitted in with other parts of the range, parents and collectors alike may be more tempted. Examples from the current range would be Mining and Harry Potter while things like Construction would've fitted in past ranges. I also feel that as an inevitable consequence of sticking all non-AFOL oriented trains in City, they have restricted themselves only to modern traction. I reckon (those of you who exhibit might have a better idea) that kids might be more likely to prefer a steam train. Perhaps one of the trains on offer ought to be within the Creator (non-Expert) line.
-
One thing I felt stood out from that interview was that the Christmas train DID sell well. That sort of leads to the conclusion that if trains are integrated into other lines (Harry Potter being one possibility), they may sell better to people who have no previous interest.

Last used in the Knight Bus which was discontinued in 2012. Plenty of purple ones for a good price so if anyone's modelling South Africa then they're spoilt for choice when making a Premier Classe train.

And the plot will doubtless centre on a moon/big moon/planet/star-sized battle station which will destroy everything the protagonists have ever worked for. In order to destroy it, the protagonists (with no prior military experience) will have to bluff their way in and turn off the shield.

If only we could have the packs of these like we used to...
