Really liking these vintage models and am itching to do a series of builds... Will go chase down your Bricklink account for those Stud.io files :) (did you mean Bricksafe or something else? not finding you on either Bricklink or Bricksafe, tbh)

[MOC] Ferrari SF70H vs. Mercedes W08 (2017 F1 cars)
prototyp replied to MR Swordfish's topic in LEGO Town
Yea these are fun, nicely done. -
Also looks like one of those Junior "Cars" rear wing pieces in black for the wing flap (with the Ecoboost sticker)... and 2x1 wedge-cut curve slopes in a few colors (black, white, dark blue)... some great dark blue bits... Quite a few interesting bits in this set. Gonna have to buy a few of these.

Hey G, The fenders used on these are #50745: https://brickset.com/parts/design-50745 Do I work at Lego? No... I wish. :) Would be a pretty awesome gig, I think. (hey TLG, hire me) Instructions... yea, I've had a few requests and it's something I'm looking into. Producing nice instructions for these little cars wouldn't be terribly difficult, but it's my big F40 LM and in-progress Eagle MkIII that have me looking into better tools than are available (LDD is ridiculously lame in terms of instructions production for example)

I'm hoping this possible new 919 has something approaching long/low/mid-engined prototype proportions. The 919 in the Porsche set from 75876 really didn't capture the prototype look at all, imo. The R18 was passably better with the windscreen forward a stud closer to the front axle, but they both look like they still needed another stud of wheelbase and lower heights. We'll see soon enough, I suppose.

Sweet... Nice to see some more variation from the supercars and F1 racers. [edited] Those wedge 'tiles' are interesting, looks like dk blue and black. Nice to see more of the new-ish 1x2 sloped curve bows with the cut corner (the black headlights as well as dark blue ones on the lower front wing). Stoked for these as well as those black 45º 2x2 corner plates on the sides of wing and the dk blue fenders. This will be a multi-buy for me for sure. Dovetailing off this apparent official Rally set theme, we all need to get behind AbFab's marvelous Group B rally sets on Ideas: Peugeot 205: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/acc6c73d-4f04-4fdc-9c09-5de4263b3fe6 Lancia Delta S4: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/a6fee8cf-1f3b-44b4-af99-3aa3bdbc09bc

TLDR: super-detailed fully-modular Creator-scale build of epic early-90s Ferrari race-car version of street car version of a race car. The F40 LM is the race car version of what was already mostly a race car. Nineteen competition-ready F40's were built by Chinetti Michelotto for Ferrari; lighter, lower, more powerful and full of racing-specific tweaks. My 10248 "Super-Mod" builds one of these legendary LMs inside the lines of TLG's design. The kit's brilliant overall shaping and clever build solutions provide a framework for revised proportions and deeper detailing. Nearly every step of the build is altered and most assemblies have been heavily redesigned. The LM-spec bodywork has an extended front splitter, fixed headlights, a top-vented front hood, taller rear wing and open mesh rear bodywork. The lengthened doors and repositioned fuel-tank pods were informed by Brickmonkey's modified build, while the gray interior firewall was removed entirely, allowing the seats to be extended back along with the stretched doors for a more properly-scaled cabin. The black trim line is now brick-built the full circumference of the car, and the chromed #56145 rims from Bricks4All have fully scratch-built BBS LM wheel inserts (see my F40 album on Flickr for some in-progress photos). My original goal of just lowering the 10248 model's ride height rapidly evolved into in a fully revamped chassis, keeping only a portion of the central floor and the clever side sills from TLG's model. The race-spec front section carries an oversize radiator, air jacks, sway bars, repositioned hydraulic reservoirs and low-mounted battery suspended on Technic beams. The redesigned rear chassis lifts the axle position and provides mounts for the sway bar and air jack details as well as vestigial rear springs and oil coolers. The engine and transmission assembly was also lengthened and lowered and features details for turbos, wastegates, exhausts, a larger intake manifold and intercoolers. Also tucked in there are the cam-drive ancillaries, oil filter, and transmission-oil line. I followed the spec of a particular F40 LM which underwent a comprehensive resto-mod; much larger intercoolers, dual wastegates and many other updates went into the build. It's all well documented here: www.build-threads.com/tag/Ferrari-F40-LM-Restoration/ Custom stickers were created for the Braille battery, Magneti Marelli digital dashboard, and labels on the master cylinder fluid reservoirs. This project was a first for me at this scale (well, since I was a kid anyway) and a blast to do. It went way, way deeper than I had intended; motivation and inspiration for what was possible came from the large-scale masterworks of Luca Rusconi, Carl Greatrix, Norton74, and Robert Alexander (also Biczzz’s Alfa, Gerald Cacas, Sir.Manperson, Alex Paschoaletto). Hope you enjoy checking it out. Original base model: 1157 pcs. As built, appx: 1270 pcs. Parts changed or added: 490 pcs (39%) (*ps, missing a good clean "finished" front 3/4 shot, have to set up another shoot and add it back here)

I've never really taken to the beams-n-pins Technic theme (really just too complex for my head) so I do appreciate that there's a place for high-detail, plates-n-bricks-n-slopes work apart from the Brickheadz and Minifig threads in Special Themes. That said, maybe the answer to this isn’t so much in honing the definition of a “scale model” but instead looking at the problem that is the melee of “Special Themes.” It’s much too much of a catch-all and pretty much everything gets lost in there. The more it grows, the worse that problem is going to get... A quick look and I see: Brickheadz Minifigs Architecture Tiny Turbos Creator Speed Champions City-scale ish sub-Speed Champion MOCs Super-detailed scale military mega MOCS Saturn V Rockets Piggy bank mods Perhaps Special Themes should be managed to be less of “Everything Else” and get more organized. Perhaps it should be broken up in more granularity; get all the Architecture stuff together in its own (sub?) forum. Get the Brickheadz infection into its own forum. Give the Minifig collectible debates a place to call home. If the more granular corners of the community have a clearer sense of place, they’ll be able to thrive and maybe Scale Models can be inclusive without worry about its own identity. There are builds lost in that randomness which, to me, are exactly the kind of work that should be in Scale Modeling. GiantAmbushBeetle’s stellar MOCs aren’t of specific cars but are precisely what I’d consider “Lego scale modeling” https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/152804-moc-group-c-race-car/ Even then, the lines are hazy... Shouldn't the accurately-scaled super-detailed and highly-researched Saturn V be here instead of tucked in Special Themes with its Ideas-mates Wall-E and the Old Fishing Store? I really don't know, though I think putting some clarity around the Themes which can easily be clarified (there's no mistaking a Brickhead), the remainder may sort itself out.

Very nicely done. I did a series of these cars as 10-wides using that Speed Champions canopy as well as the SC wheels/tires and fenders. They're almost bang on 1/24 scale and have some minimal chassis and driveline details, but the wheel/tire setup is just a bit too small... https://www.flickr.com/photos/prototyp/albums/72157663863658604 Seems your 12w is about the upper limit for that canopy windscreen piece to still work in scale, tho the Creator wheels and low-profile tires here could probably handle up to 14w... Either way, you've been able to work in some really nice details (the open fender tops!) as well as great brick-built liveries. Looking forward to seeing more.

Looks great. The alts Nathanael and Amaman and Keeponbricking are definitely responsible for me picking up this set. Looking forward to building each, including your 911. Thanks for sharing the build-up shots. I see you did the small-block v8 swap ;)
-
Beautiful shaping and a(nother) great build. It's very tidy and looks quite solid, yet has very nice flowing curves. That rear structure transitioning from brick-built to Technic system beams is a good trick.
-
Yep. That's spectacular. Definitely some Sauber C9 in the shaping. Nice job on those tricky nose slopes (and integrating steering!), that wing is lovely, and I'm impressed how well that windscreen integrates.

Yea, this. IIRC the Brickheadz were up for close to a month ahead of release as "Coming Soon"... That said, licensing deals and marketing can get complicated so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm also considering buying the big blue 31070 Creator "Track Racer" which hasn't shown up anywhere either. -

First signs of the 75880 McLaren 720S hitting NA shores; one seller has a few up on eBay "in hand". Didn't see the model on the up-coming June store calendar or up on SAH, so I'm curious when it's supposed to officially be available. -
Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind compliments. Hope sharing these has inspired some building. Added a few more shots of the Mustang GT350 (from a new Flickr album) and a new MOC Porsche 935 for your perusal.

Thought I'd collect my growing series of six-wide builds into one place as my feed on Flickr is getting pretty dense. I'd struggled to get the Speed Champions cars proportioned to my liking (I ended up with slightly outrageous 10-wide P1 prototypes), meanwhile my Flickr feed has a continuous drizzle of inspiring builds done around the slightly smaller City Scale fenders and tires. Somehow this scale just works. While there are a good many builders on Flickr working at this scale and all their work inspires in some way, I would like to call out ER0L, Tom Netherton and Adrian Barbour aka BrickMonkey in particular as their approaches, shared designs and instructions went a long way to kick-starting this series of building for me. I've adopted the techniques they honed which has given me a great platform to come up with some of my own tricks. Also, there's sort of an easter-egg in all of them; rather than filling the inner spaces of the chassis with big bricks a la Speed Champions, I like to tuck in plate-built details like engines and chassis structures. These are all up on Flickr > Prototyp with plenty of photos of each if you'd like to check them out more closely. Will update here with new builds from time to time. Hakosuka and McLaren instructions are available at Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/users/prototyp/mocs/ 1972 Datsun 510 A cooler version of my college car (if I weren't so broke the and had actually hopped up my Dime); fat MiniLites tucked into some flares, front and rear skirt work, and a twin-cam engine swap under the hood. Nissan Skyline KCG10 '72 Early work on the 510 ended up developing into the even cooler, lower, sleeker, meaner Skyline GTR "Hakosuka" McLaren P1 Unrelated in every way to TLG's Speed Champions P1; very long, very low, very curvy... Even the color is opposite. Particularly proud of the trick nose build and that TT wing plate as a rear diffuser (which, interestingly enough the new 720S Speed Champions model also uses) Built up in some colorways. Ferrari 458 Italia Distantly-related to BrickMonkey's 'chibi' style Ferrari 458 caricature. Like the McLaren, this one is also quite long and low. There's a plate-built V8 tucked in the mid-rear, too. (will need to build this one in more colors, too) Honda NSX Type R Adapted from Tom Netherton's Acura NSX with a new nose, new tail, and a v6 under the rear glass. Ford Mustang GT350 Another Tom Netherton-based build. His work on the nose and side panels is fantastic stuff. I reworked chassis to move the whole roof/cockpit area back a stud in order to play up the long-hood coupe proportions. Under the hood is just enough space for a hint of plate-built V8 and the GT's strut-tower cross brace. The tail is extended and incorporates a custom exhaust and diffuser setup. Porsche 935 '77 This MOC started out as a build of a 911 street car but got sidetracked by the desire to make something a little more outrageous (and to use the Speed Champions fender/tire combo). The turbofan wheel covers and front suspension camber are small design and technique triumphs. Some good bones here for a series of stickered replicas. And yes, there's a turbocharged, air-cooled flat 6 engine under the rear hood, too.

Very nicely done. A bit of stickering does work well at this scale. Do you mind sharing what you used to produce the stickers? The print quality looks fantastic... Fwiw, I have a pack of Papilio Glossy White and an Epson Photo 1400 but haven't quite gotten the color matching sorted out well enough to do any sticker printing yet.

[MOD] Ferrari F40 (10248) & F430 (8671)
prototyp replied to BrickMonkeyMOCs's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for this! Finally picked up the F40 set despite waffling on it for what seems to have been years. Looks like a great model but I've always thought the proportions weren't right. Excited to do the build and will probably go right on to your 'corrected' version. Something looking into is reworking the axle mounts to lower the ride height... Is it just me or in some of the built 10248 photos around the web does it look like the model sits too tall by about a plate or so? Anyway, cheers Adrian! -

(don't have my sets yet, but...) Was going to say the same thing. That's clearly a production problem.
