LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
koalayummies replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
CMF19? The product is designed far in advance so the series that came out during the pandemic were well into production. They could have done paper boxes before but there wasn't really as serious a threat before and its entirely plausible that with the new knowledge regarding physical transfer that it alarmed those at the company knowing that kids touch the packaging with a fervor and aren't as aware of the need for proper hand washing before touching their faces. Its another possible theory as to the change, one that falls under health and not environmental packaging concerns like the Greenpeace protests. Nothing definitive, especially there being only 3 possible explanations. All of the 'sky is falling' talk is of no interest to me though so that's why I didn't quote it and where I leave the discussion. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours

4: Or the change is temporary due to the risk of fomites/disease transfer and they'll return to the sticky-and-oily-booger-finger food-grease-covered gropey-bags in due time... until Ebolavirus or transmissible spongiform encephalopathy zoonosis/antigenic shift. -
This is so spot on its hilarious in its accuracy! The club owner's super transparent attempt at being ritzy but winding up tacky, (I mean this in a good way to your precise representation of the reality of the source inspiration and not that your build is tacky). Excellent work with all the details, colors and design as it really feels like a skeezy big-city club.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

With loose parts (as opposed to unopened sets) Bricklink's 'new' isn't exactly the same as direct-from-Lego and that's reflected in that price difference. Any BL seller can claim that the 103,547 2x4 bricks that they've had for the past twenty-six years are brand new and unused but that isn't like Lego PAB new.

[MOD] Fantasy minifigures using recent parts
koalayummies replied to AmperZand's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
You always do such great and creative reuse of the minifigure parts for other themes and these are no exception. Great use of the minecraft? torso and those antler horns are great on the cow/bull head and that witch is perfection. Excellent and great inspiration for reappropriation of minifigure parts!- 9 replies

Now thats my kind of order! New small parts The sand yellow recolors on the left, the new 1x3 slope pieces on the right. Super jelly. What's the grey cylinder top middle? -
Ah that must be it. My phone is like just after rotary dial. No wonder it wasn't working for me.

Anyone try out the app yet? It was functioning terribly for me. First up it prompts you to download an additional 300MB of content after the initial app install which isn't a big deal except that its incredibly slow, slower than downloading gigabytes of patches elsewhere on the same internet connection. Also the loading of the app and every area takes forever, longer than loading a Fallout 4 save on a 5400rpm stock last-gen-console hard drive. It also froze up and kept 'pinwheeling' so had to offload and restart. Then it froze again and drained battery down to 20% in just a few minutes. Then it froze again, every time on the add bandmate screen. Was going to try out @Metanoios91 hilarious suggestion of just scanning images online to unlock bandmates but never could actually get to the point of scanning with the camera, the app froze each time.

That really completes it, fantastic work on those graphics! Its a shame they didn't allow them but it still looks great both ways. I didn't notice the phone pieces for the lights at the roof line, very clever.

[MOC] Dark Red bonsai tree, with crow (Lego Ideas activity)
koalayummies replied to Stephle59's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Brilliant use of that hairpiece and everything stemming from that . The crow, red leaves and black trunk for a darker feeling tree. Most excellent minimalist creation and really great parts usage!- 3 replies

What a visually gorgeous build. The tree, the overflow of the scene, the weathered look of the house and the texturing of the city wall are all sublime. Fantastic techniques, style and design throughout!

Very well done! Cool idea to make a Minifigure sized version for city and it turned out great.

The strategy: rummage through Wikipedia for any "good old days" entertainment license and find out when the next Hollywood remake or TV spinoff will be. For example a book (ancient) that was adapted into a movie (window passed) that was rebooted into another movie (not current) that was remade as a cartoon (too limited) that is currently in studio negotiations for a TV series (jackpot!). The implementation: Disregard everything about Lego and instead focus on the timing of an existing multimedia license rehash. Let TLG handle the rest including polishing the 6-minute-design. Crank these submissions out like Funko Pops. /disenchantment summary

Its also possible that the perceived differences in the images for the two elephant trunk piece part numbers are just that, digital rendering differences with the newer part simply having a more accurate render or rendered from a slightly different angle. -

Ah, that stinks about the ebay seller missing the part. -

But which set/car are you talking about that might have the incorrect information regarding the spring part then? Lets check it out. These databases have been thanklessly compiled and maintained so lets at least verify before dismissing the entirety of the archive as inaccurate or suggesting that those that put in the work are unqualified or colorblind based on one potentially misremembered error. -

Brickset's inventory also lists 2 and they state that the data is obtained direct from Lego's customer service replacement parts page. "Important note: We do not control this inventory and cannot currently make changes to it. Use it as a guide to the contents of the set, or to find out part numbers when requesting replacements." Also I found two listings for sale of this set and it clearly shows 2 of the spring piece in both, one from Nevada and one from Austria. https://www.ebay.com/c/1200724970 https://www.ebay.com/c/149215073 -

If that's the case then they're interchanging them. I checked for you as I should have both according to the brickset part lists but the ones came in my bonsai set (80479 according to brickset) are molded as 28959 right on the side of the piece, the older one. -
How to best start building up a part collection?
koalayummies replied to Mars Arka's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Since you're after new parts specifically as opposed to second hand and are already calculating the price per piece I think you're well underway. That method and the values you're going by have held for a while: decent is ~$0.06, anything less is usually good and amazing is around 2-3ยข a piece or less. All of this weighed against the parts in the set and how desirable they are to you of course. Pull up brickset if you're trying to decide whether a sale is worth it in terms of PPP and the full parts list. And yes get used to not using all the parts all the time. You never know when that one piece you tossed aside as being weird or not applicable a while back will spontaneously have the perfect use in your latest idea. -
This is what Lego is about! Yes! The ship wings have pepperoni, the spacesuit matches the theme. The pizza oven transport opens a la shuttle. What's not to love about this. Space and pizza, a winning combination. Awesome MOC!

Help with identifying parts/sets!
koalayummies replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You need to upload your images to an image host as EB doesn't host images. This will also allow for the linking of larger images; Flickr and Bricksafe are two of the preferred around here. Unfortunately a lot of those pieces are in many sets, too many to really narrow down specifically which they came from but here goes: The 3x2 slope blue with red triangles is in 15 different sets The 3x4 slope blue with red triangles is in 13 different sets 3x4 slope green with with yellow triangles is in 7 different sets The white computer screen slope brick is in 71 different sets Tile 1x2 with dynamite pattern is in 40 different sets The grey wing piece bottom middle is from these 2 UFO (space subtheme) sets this is one of your rarer pieces I'll locate more later if someone else doesn't get around to it. -
That is a most excellent bonsai! Incredibly creative use of the Belville limbs and pool, that has gotta be one of the most creative parts usages I've ever seen. The trunk build is really great as well. Absolutely fantastic design.
