  1. yeah that's pretty awesome... :) Even for a castle builder
  2. Cool! I would say whichever way you do it, you should keep it equidistant. I've always though that circular things should have engines spaced out accordingly. But yeah I'm thinking outside would be better, just cause it's something you don't see as often :)
  3. Hey Doc! Overall impressive! It appears you've even improved on my techniques! The back area looks lit from behind? opposed to infront! Innovative and very awesome. The use of focus is also extremely well done - the figure is sharp and in focus, but the background is soft and subtle - it's a bit of a common habit for some people to always take really crisp pictures of the entire build, but for this it works wonders! Normally I would complain and comment about how I can't see the background enough, but that's a bit of the point in this case, and the background isn't necessarily the build, but the lighting effects. My one beef that I have with this is his face. The right side is perfectly lit and has a great shadow, but the left has a bit of glare... Really the only recourse you have is to keep trying and get the picture without it - or digitally darken it to see the face a bit more. OR swap his head out for a visor or something which CAN have a reflection. Overall this is fantastic work and an easy pass. Congrats!
  4. You can't just tie it to the roof like KDM's wiener, it's way too big for that, you need a semi trailer.
  5. Myself I got a ride in one on Sunday... it's like riding a roller coaster! the instantaneous acceleration is unnerving.
  6. While Brown and Gold are the traditional colours of Steam punk, i think metal frame is okay... but what you're really missing here as the tell tale steam!
  7. C'est tres bien! belle mise en page!
  8. I'm hoping to go... Possibly do a trip around Europe as well... but it's also somewhat close to BW... that's prime/panic building season!
  9. I still need to sort out accommodations, but I should be going to my first BFVA
  10. BUT! It comes in black! Do those curved slopes come in orange? or maybe some orange stickers would work.
  11. Video Overview of the build: RS Industries deploys several scrap fleets to salvage derelict SHIPs in space. The RS HUDSON is a demolition class scrap vessel - when docked with floating wrecks, the RS HUDSON has a retractable arm which is capable cutting into hulls of SHIPs. Cubes are cut out and sent to waiting Dumpships which transport the raw cubes to the RS UNWIN which continues to process the cubes further. Refined materials are loaded into cargo containers ready for shipping. The UNWIN is the Scrap Fleet's mobile processing plant - taking raw materials from its sistership RS HUDSON, this ship sorts and refines the salvage material and placing them into cargo containers for off ship transport. The RS UNWIN is built by Ricecracker who came up this awesome layout idea. Ricey is typically a The Town MOD so I was thrilled to do a Sci-Fi build with him. The SHIP is about 180 studs long, and the wreck/rock is about 3x3x1 feet. The RS Hudson has a NXT (for the 'arm') and two powerfunctions (front conveyor belt and engine pulsing), the wreck/rock has one (for glow fluctuation)- which takes a combined 24 batteries to operate -- After it's untimely demise at Brickworld Chicago, the entire middle section was destroyed, and given the effort it takes to put up the Space Wreck (about a day) it would only be displayed once. As such RS Hudson was repuprosed into the RS Hudson Jr: After near destruction in the Chicago sector, the RS Hudson was repurposed from a SCRAP SHIP to one of RS Industry's Comet Catchers. The RS HUDSON Jr now captures comets in it's center hold, and proceeds to crush the comet, striping out frozen Water and other useful minerals. The RS HUDSON and Space wreck (aka Space rock, aka ice house) are the two largest LEGO structures I have ever built, it has been almost a year long journey with Ricecracker who conceived of the idea of SPACE wreaking SHIPs. Through many ramen meals the idea of a pair of SHIPs came together. Here are some WIP photos as I built up the SHIP and the Wreck: And finally like all good builds, it would have to be scrapped itself and eventually sorted:
  12. The pointed wings on top makes me feel like this is a speeder/starfighter. You could leave it open topped and be like one of those cloud city ships ... In which case swap out those ski's for another set of wings - you already have an nice downward angle with the click hinge there. And the over all shaping would work quite well for an atmospheric fighter! I'd also throw in another blue /something/ near the rear engine area to offset the blue in the 2x2 round. Looks good man, keep it up!
  13. I'm not the greatest fan of the new transformers, but WOW. this is impressive. The newer transfromers are far harder to build than the 'blocky' old ones, and you've done a magnificent job! Utterly impressive. And this is just the WIP? I can't wait to see more. (and welcome to EB!)
  14. I've been watching this progress of flickr for awhile, and man, you DO NOT disappoint. This is fantastic. The overall shape, the removable roof, the gun battlements! It's gorgeous man. It's MOCs like this that make me want to dive out of space and sci-fi into more of a terrestrial sci-fi Great job man.
  15. Wow... that looks awesome... I'd love to build a really big SHIP someone day... I believe the present record is 490 odd studs... I think something like this could be close to beating it!
  16. Hahah, I'm loving the influx of Aliens builds Great lighting, the Aliens are silhouetted nicely Really great presentation.
  17. I was more of a Zerg/Protoss player.... but I do like taking down BattleCruisers The lights/functionality is awesome, as is the blending of he old and light grey... And while I get the flag is accurate - I'd probably take it off for in public as some people might take offense....
  18. I'm not surprised you were blogged, you have a really fantastic style and some really eye catching colour blocking I love the angles and the orange in this. I wouldn't think the dark bley/orange colour scheme would work, but I stand corrected. Keep up the awesome builds man!
  19. Well done Brickdoctor! So are you the first imperial Moderator?
  20. I'm a huge Aliens fan so huge loves for this... Nicely done. Those are probably some of the best builds out there for Aliens
  21. I'm REALLY digging your microSHIPs man! This one does not disappoint, The colour blocking and the clumps of bley works really well. But what really steals the show for me is the double black strip. So simple, yet so cool. Keep up the cool builds!
  22. Where's the rocket launcher one? :( I liked that one best. Haha great job Matt, and great choice of figs to complement the build.
  23. Better watch your tone Mr. Hinckley, next thing you know they'll read your scathing critique and remove your posterboy status (literally): https://plus.google.com/109667765990682890143/posts (can I have your autograph?)
