Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
BrickBob Studpants replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
What I’m wondering right now is how TLG will react to customers asking for DoD sets I can see the PR nonsense already: “In order to celebrate the release of DoD, we released three sets based on the classic movies instead”. Or maybe customers won’t even care in the first place. Indy isn’t exactly a merchandise juggernaut like Star Wars, Marvel, or Harry Potter, after all -

His source is his job, which is retail-related. Why would any retailer already know about 2024 sets? -

Not a single What If…? character in sight? Someone pinch me! That‘s an excellent line-up! -

CaptainSolo you mean? That‘s just his personal opinion then, because he has no intel on any 2024 sets -

For me, it‘s the minifigs. The more I think about it, the less likely an interesting selection becomes, though. Gringotts actually cannot offer that much beside goblins, Hermione polyjuiced as Bellatrix, and Dragomir Despard. Maybe Bill, if we‘re really lucky. The BoH is rather limited too since we already have all of the relevant combatants. Ron and Scabior, perhaps? Masked Death Eaters can pretty much be ruled out too. HE: no idea. New version of Hagrid maybe? WWW: better Lavender Quidditch trunk: Lee Jordan? Yeah… Even the best case probably won‘t change my ranking. -

Exactly. Even if the sets sell very well, they might simply attribute that to the hype surrounding the movie. If you want to believe in additional waves in the coming years, feel free to do so. I don’t. Doing so will in all likelihood only end in disappointment. -

Yeah, no new information then. Since we now know about all the sets, time for a year ranking: 6. 2021 5. 2023 4. 2019 3. 2018 2. 2022 1. 2020 2023 could still rise in the ranks with the right minifig selection. Kinda doubtful tho -

Even if the sets sell well, that‘s no guarantee. The sales would have to be high enough to not only warrant an extension of the license, but also a complete change of strategy. Licensed sets without movie/show support just don‘t happen anymore outside of evergreen themes and Icons -

Yeah, but only because a new movie came out As you suggest, the only way I could see this theme continue is the same way as LOTR, with a small handful of D2C sets. But even that is pretty unlikely. If TLG had ANY faith in this, they would have released a DoD wave at the very least. -

I was talking about evergreen themes. You know, like when they finally released a 501st Clonetrooper Battlepack after realising that such a set would be in high demand. Or producing a lot more Mandalorian sets after realising how big of a phenomenon the show became. Indy however is not an evergreen theme and never will be. I‘ve never EVER seen a theme continue after receiving a wave comprised of merely three sets. Most themes start with a wave of at least twice as many sets and even they don‘t usually get extended. As I‘ve pointed out many times before, they haven‘t done any follow-up waves for non-evergreen licensed in ages. And again: why would they release only 3 sets in a year with a new movie and more in a year without one? Even evergreen themes crank up the volume in those years, e.g., last year‘s Jurassic World wave, which was much larger than those of other years. -

BrickBob Studpants replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
My guess is that they wanted to have tie-in sets to cash in on Indy, but didn‘t have confidence in sets based on DoD, so they focussed on remaking the bestsellers from the original run I was about to say that I hope this doesn‘t wouldn‘t become a new trend, until I realised there are barely any movie-licensed themes left that could realistically return like that -

Show me another theme that had a gap like that without a new movie coming up to justify a return This is a lethal dosis of hopium -

…seriously? Why would they randomly release Indy sets in 2025? Since they likely never had anything planned for DoD, you know, the reason any sane person would think was the reason for the“revival“, there is almost no chance for sets in 2024, let alone 2025. A theme this small never had a follow-up wave the year after, at least so far. It‘s best to simply enjoy the three sets we have and bury the notion of other sets. -

BrickBob Studpants replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Nah. It takes at least a year for a set to be designed (i.e., from conceptualising to release), so they’re not able to change schedules so quickly. If there is more coming out in 2024 (which is highly unlikely), they would already have started designing the sets by now. The consequences of a wave suddenly selling better than expected could only be felt like 1.5-2 years later. The opposite however can happen VERY quickly (see Dots & Vidiyo) -

Couldn’t agree more. They fixed and rereleased the Marvel mechs, so why not this set too? Maybe they don’t have much faith in this theme and thought a cancellation would be cheaper than a redesign -

I know we haven’t had one in a while, but it cannot be ruled out It’s not an exciting sounding set either way. Depends on whether there is a third minifig, and if so, which one. Can’t think of anything worthwhile -

No matter what it’s based on, I don’t think we can expect anything all that interesting here. We don’t even know whether it’s based on the MCU -

@Brick Clicker is teasing a new rumour video for later today (which hopefully won’t be postponed last minute this time )! This likely involves the promised info on the HP sets, even though @bRICKbRAT kinda stole his thunder a bit already Infos on the minifigs would be especially welcome, as those are the only thing that could save these lackluster set choices for me. -

If you’re still having hope for more sets this year (for whatever reason), you can burry it right now. If you’ve been in the SW thread recently, you know why: the guy on Reddit who predicted the Gunship and its minifig selection a couple of months ago also said that 77014 is completely cancelled due to “one element” (left unclear whether they mean one piece or an entire section like the statue) and there are no DoD sets on the way. With the only sets of this “revival” being on shelves now, there’s nothing left to be discussed. See you in other threads! -

Wow. So the prank was leaving it unclear whether it was a prank or not for the entire day Pretty exciting waves ahead of us! The minifig selection in the TIE Interceptor & Fang Fighter set is very disappointing though. And the rumoured reveal date (April 26th?) has to be false since there’s absolutely NOTHING spoiler-y in here -

Not sure what to think of the whole thing. On the one hand, it sounds wishlisty AF and the minifig selection in the Ghost sets is… weird. Is that even an Ahsoka set?! And if so, why do we know the minifigs here but not even the set names of the other two? On the other hand, this would be an uncharacteristically mean April Fool‘s prank on Promobricks‘ part. Tough still better than what the goat guy did -

Just finished building them Excellent sets and a lot of fun to build, especially the temple Regarding the hat situation: I got a second copy in only one of the sets, namely the temple. Seems to be rather inconsistent!
