Technic 2021 Set Discussion
kbalage replied to LvdH's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The piece count and all the other details make no sense and for the concept they does not matter. Apparently TLG wanted to test the concept of a Technic car controlled & powered by the new Mindstorms system. Not sure if the bad Photoshop work was intentional to ensure nobody would it is a real product like when they were testing the LEGO branded light kits. -

51515 also used to belong to a set of LEGO branded pencils, and now it became the new Mindstorms set :) But the Porsche is still 100% fake. -

That's an awfully bad photoshop work and makes no sense at all. -

I did have a chance finally to test how the Osprey's gear-crunching works exactly and what are the potential fixes: Unfortunately the fix suggested by Huw in his Brickset article has its own issues and it is not a viable solution. I tested the version suggested by @wg100 with some slight modifications, and it seems to hold better. I still don't think it is the ultimate solution, but creating one would require some bigger design changes in the gearbox. -
@Dasher can you show us a screenshot of the app where it is stuck?

@TheQuoteMan I did not see anyone doing that. The closest working solution is the one implemented in BrickController 2. -

Just a video thumbnail from a guy who's looking for extra clicks but still has the exact same list that you saw in the this topic. -

Fingers crossed... so many purple pieces missing for a decent build :) -

42106 has 610 pieces for $50, so ~800 pieces for this price is not impossible if it has e.g small system parts for decoration. You can find sets with 800+ pieces for $50 among the non-Technic sets, even licensed ones. -

@HUWI well even with the SBrick app you need to reconfigure it or create separate profiles for a hw controller and a screen interface, there's no single universal "works with everything in every scenario" app. Btw you can use the Powered Up app with the controller profiles and you can also use the Powered Up remote. Both of them are restrictive regarding the controls but might be an option if it fits your build. -

I expect something like 42005 (329 pieces) built around the same PU components as the Rally Car. -

I don't really get your point, BrickController2 is there to be used with a game controller, it supports both Powered Up and BuWizz hardware. Why would you need BuWizz app to support a controller? -

I had a look yesterday and none of the exclusive color variations showed up, were they pulled from B&P? -
I suggest to have a look at the charts in Philo's excellent article. Alkalines have higher initial voltage but with similar conditions they quickly drop below the level of rechargeables, so there's no real benefit. On longer term alkalines will cost you more and you generate a lot more waste as well.

Well, it's still a mess. I found this one first and now I realized that it is the "standalone" version that is sold separately, but in this case it should have this one listed as a "part". And the part is listed as being in the set 42114, but if you check the page of 42114 then the inventory is still not public as it is not approved yet. Additionally only the Technic version has a color assigned, the Spike Prime version does not.
-
Bricklink's database is updated very slowly. The Spike Prime variant is not listed as being part of any sets and the Volvo does not even has an approved inventory.
-
The different variants seem to have identical internals, at least what I could test with the Spike Prime and the Technic Large versions. The ID is different for these two. About the name, it is indeed confusing. The Spike Prime variant is called "Technic Large Angular Motor", but the one in 42114 is called "large angular position motor" on the product page and on the box as well. Bricks & Pieces calls it "MOTOR, NO. 15". Your observation about the current Powered Up app compatibility is correct. The Technic variant is not recognized at the moment, the Spike Prime variant has no feedback on position, but it can run and it can be also turned by x degrees, and it can be also turned to y relative position (although you won't have a feedback about it).

Then you can stick to PF, simple as that. But if you want the added functionality of PU then you can actually get the hubs in sets or on BL for a reasonable price, if you compare the size/weight with the PF AA battery box there are no big differences, and so on. And here we were still talking about a huge 8x8 truck that should not have any concerns with size or weight... -

You can stack 3 motors, but I thought you will use the available ports on the SBrick. I always try to balance the outputs and don't stack all motors on a single port if there are free ports available. Activating multiple ports for PU is not magic btw, you can use parallel code sequences being executed the exact same time. -

With 2 SBricks you would also rely on software to "sync the motors". I don't really see why would it be a major problem if they don't start at the exact same moment. PF motors rarely have the exact same speed to there's always some stress between hard coupled motors anyway and they survive without issues. Because it is a lightweight model anyway and every gram counts ;)
