Nice review. I think that truck can get under only one of these conveyor belts is significant drawback for playability. Something TLG should have addressed during design process. It seems to me that some of the 2016 H2 sets were released in bit unfinished state and customers are used for beta-testing.

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
J_C replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
pure speculation with too many IFs. If this set is designed by Grohl (he is Czech), there might be certain chance he would choose (or got inspired) by L-39 or L-29 since they are Czech designed and made planes. edit: all the planes he designed have OK somewhere on the stickers - which is international code for all CZ registered planes. (He said it in one interview). interesting story about how Czech planes got OK as code: In early 20s when codes for countries were assigned, Czechoslovakian (as it was Czechoslovakia at the time) application was handled by some not so important employee at ministry of transportation. his name initials were OK, so he wrote in the application and that was it. No connection with really positive meaning of OK in English (and nowadays basically all the languages) -

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
J_C replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, already? :-) 1) I am super glad that 2016 H2 was exceptional and not a trendsetter and there aren't 3sets for 250 and 1 for 400. I think Lego should stay affordable for kids (do you remember kids, main audience). I am glad Lego does. 2) boat/ship/vessel is something I am very interested in 3) I like the idea of anniversary brick instead of some "exclusive" set. 4) container transport is interesting too - I hope it will be compatible scale with the ship - nice combo for container play - loading, unloading (even if you would have to modify the boat into container carrier) 5) motorcycle - I hope it will be better than previous one. Proper tires finally? Correct width? Current motorcycle tires looks like from some 50cc junior bike. 6) jet plane - I really did not like the last attempt in this area (9394), so I am looking forward to this. 7 - edit) maybe container cargo is not car but harbour crane on the rails - that would be awesome: Other side: Any ideas which set might get discontinued for 2017? -
[CMODEL] 42042 - Bulldozer
J_C replied to J_C's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
as I said before, I am not sure how and in what form I am going to publish the instructions (for this and also other C-models - I did not publish these models anywhere yet). Instructions for bulldozer are not finalized - I want them to be as good as possible, I do not want to publish them before I am happy with its quality (as close as possible to Lego ones) - therefore some editing of some pages is still needed. I only do legoing in my free (very limited) time. I am not sure how much time I might have next week. But maybe in like next 8-10days it might be finished. I need only couple or hours, maybe less, but I do not have "free" time every day. Thanks for understanding. -

in the video when they brought the B model, I caught myself smiling - big time. And it looks like there is another challenge (best possible meaning of the word is intended here) to build the mine that will "work" . -

Thanks. I know, that is exact example where some extra editing is needed. -

[CMODEL] 42042 - Bulldozer
J_C replied to J_C's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am nearly finished with proper step-by-step instructions - same way as TLG does it. I made model in LDCad (which is amazing piece of software) Mainly for myself, so as I am able to build it again in the future. Usually when I build something I take it apart later and when I try to build it again, it is never the same, since I do not remember all the details. :-) And then I made instructions including list of parts. I am just doing some editing (adding arrows or extra view where I feel it might be helpful) Preview: 1st step and last step (195 pages of building - 44 steps in main assembly - other pages consist (in logical order as you build) sub-assemblies like chassis, gearbox, hood, etc): I am still on the fence whether I should just give away instructions for free or ask for some money. I am not sure yet. 2 more C models (of similar qualities as bulldozer) for 42042 are in the pipeline :-) -
I have one motor from 1986 and it still works. I have not chance to find out if there is performance drop. But its power is - as Rolls-Royce used to say in old days when they did not publish kW for their car engines: "more than sufficient" With modern motors I did not notice any problems. But they are not 30y old yet. I have 42042 and I have no issues. Maybe you want to check alignment of bushings and gears and cogs if there is not some extra friction because of poor assembly.

Interesting follow up. double count of 32556.dat in 2 separate groups magically solved after I found mistake in colouring at 94925.dat (so completely different part) - there were 2 in 71gray and 1 in 72gray. After I changed all 3 from model into 71 gray, BOM in LPub recalculated and mysterious extra 15 of 32556 in tan, disappeared. Now BOM is correct.
-
Hi, I have a model which uses 15x 32556.dat in Tan. However, in BOM there are 2 groups of the same part. 1 says 15x. other says 15x. I do not understand why it allocate the part in 2 groups, also (more of the problem) why it calculated double the amount? Any ideas? Thank you.

Instructions Question

change part position in instruction
J_C replied to J_C's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thank you. I will try that. -
Hi, I am sorry, if this was discussed before, I checked, did not find anything. If this is still duplicity, I would like to ask moderator to merge it with some existing topic. Thanks in advance. I would like to ask if and how I can make this feature for instruction: here is an example from official Lego instructions: Blue 3L technic pins are in different position than in the final model. After you put there turntable unit from previous step, you push the pins in - highlighted by white arrow. That is quite common building technique in Technic. You have subassambly, and after you install it at its place you secure it by e.g. axles, pins that are preinstalled in different position. How can I make this for instructions? Thanks. I create digital files in LDCad.

42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
J_C replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Why not? I think it will not be so complicated to make it remote control operated. There is space, it seems to me. Question is why? It is not like it is gonna drive away from you very quickly :-) -
Thank you very much. Reading LDCad help pages. I did already some "building" in LDCad. I like it. I think this will be it. Thank you all!

Hi, I am new to LDD and LDraw. I build only "digital free". But now I want to do some proper instructions so I started with LDD. I am sorry, if this was discussed before, I checked, did not find anything. If this is still duplicity, I would like to ask moderator to merge it with some existing topic. Thanks in advance. - Is it possible to set up environment somehow that it would ignore collisions? So I would be able to put parts "in each other" or "move them throught each other" - for purpose of composing assembly. - Is it possible to align parts along Y,Z,X axis or specific vector? I work professionally in SolidWorks, and I am missing some of the features I know from there. Thank you.

[REVIEW] 42056 - Porsche 911 GT3 RS
J_C replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
wow, I read the review, read "fix me" polls around and I have to say I think this is a bit of a flop. It is impressive set, surly. But what is actually impressive? Size, topic, colour.... that is all. Maybe expectation and hype was too much. My thoughts (based on expectations), it is nowhere near ultimate. - Gearbox does not work the way it should. sure it can be fixed. But that is the point, I feel like it has to be fixed. I am OK with improvments or modification of official set. I am not ok with fixing design flaws. As a customer, that is not acceptable. - Do not trow stones at me, but it should look better. Lego even designed new panels, and still gaps are huge. Shape is not correct (it is too flat, front overhang is way to long) - There is no ride height. - Zero playability (LEGO is still a toy - even for me as AFOL - IMO, if you cannot play with it, if it does not tickle your inner child, it is not good) - Rear wheel steering is missing (8880 had it),real 911 GT3 RS has it - Real GT3 RS does not have only 4speed gearbox (I understand even 4 speed gearbox is space consuming in LEGO, but...) Cool set? Sure. Ultimate? Not. - Price is the killer (for me). For 300Eur I would expect that to be better and I can't afford to justify its flaws. I would rather spend my 300Eur on other sets and MOC something or wait for 2017, because after amazing sets in 2016, 2017 can only be better. Or can it? Isn't bar too high? Maybe I am spoiled already :-) -
[HELP] Eternal WIPs
J_C replied to Cumulonimbus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I do LEGOing because I want to. I do it for myself. And it is not goal oriented activity. Process is not something I have to get through. It is the reason why I do it. On the other hand sometimes when I am finished with project I feel sort of anticlimactic, more like "and now what?". Of course I put building aside - sometimes for day, week, months - due lack of free time. But that is normal, I guess. I enjoy moments when I pull out the boxes and build something, even if that is for very short time, before I gotta put it away again and go back to real life :-) I would say, try to find joy in the process, do not focus on "goals" , finished MOCs, just enjoy the moment of building. It really does not matter if you finish your process today or next year of never - if you keep building, designing, inventing, creating in the process. Because THAT is the point.
