1. @Zilmrud, congratulations! I'm a bit late updating things, but Zamorah is now an official City of Historica, by decree of the Royal Cartographer's Guild. Everyone else, keep updating your posts as you build things. Or make a post (looking at you, @Grover)! Thanks for posting that list, by the way. I deleted the post to keep this tidy, but added the very helpful list to the first post of this thread.
2. Flying Monkeys from a LEGO Batman Movie set, I think.
3. Those are some awesome fig combinations! I love them all, but the fire dancer and clan centaur might be my favorites. So many elements I wish I had, especially the Chima torsos. Where is the fire spirit torso from? And clearly Solveig has never heard bagpipes played by a Mystic Isles mermaid. Those Mitgardian highlanders might toot their pipes, but not like a mystical mermaid; enchanting is hardly a descriptive enough term for it.
4. Must have been before my time, like in Book I or early Book II...
5. @Exetrius, I hope you deleted that Forestmen build. It’s clearly spam. No one around here has even heard of that Isaac Snyder guy. I’m sure other guild leaders, like @soccerkid6, would back me up.
6. Those are definitely just regular 1x2 plates upside down; you can see a faint glimmer of a One Ring at the base to invert the stud direction. I’ve never tried putting a broom into a plate, but it looks like it fits! Getting them apart again, given that both elements are reddish brown, might be a challenge, at least without breaking them... The vignette looks great, and I love that it’s Avalonian. The only thing that I would suggest is trying to get a half stud offset (or one plate, or whatever) between the wooden beams and the white and olive plaster, since usually the trim would stick out a bit further than the wall. But that’s a minor quibble in an otherwise lovely MOC!
7. Definitely real world religions are off limits, though many churches and cemeteries in the guilds still feature crosses prominently without raising objections. Real world politics are also off limits, so no saying “I love President Trump” or “I hate President Trump”, for example (insert Putin, Merkel, Johnson, Macron, Xi, etc., depending on where you live). But in-game politics are fine, so you could say “I love King de Gothia” or “I hate King de Gothia”. But if you want to create your own pantheon of Historican gods, go for it! Just don’t expect everyone in the guilds to start worshipping them. I am sure every region has its own forms of worship and sacrifice. Aslanic religion is fairly widespread throughout, and the cult of Sana Argenta seems popular in Varlyrio, but there is no official religion or consensus of practice across any guild. I know there is an Eagle goddess in the Rakath Mountains, and undoubtedly many other deities everywhere else, too, that I don’t remember or didn’t see. So be creative! Make up some fantasy gods for your region, as many as you like!
8. The dragonriders of Druidham would have something to say about that, I am sure. Avalonians don’t fear dragons!
9. I believe he means “the” and “and”. Just kidding. I’m sure it is the coarser word for excrement and others like it, the vulgarities and rough language.
10. Drow are officially black skin with white hair, but there’s room for some variation if your parts aren’t up for the challenge. Aside from Lord Garmadon and some other bad guys, not too many LEGO figs have black faces, and white hair is still relatively rare. As for the map, the one on the wiki should be pretty accurate, though it might not include everything. If you are looking at a specific area, I’d go to the guild thread where that place is located for the most up-to-date cartography.
11. @Legonaut, what Grover has said is pretty accurate. I would add only a few things. First, that pretty much anything goes outside of saying “character X is the ____est at Y”, such as “Bob is the best plumber in all Historica”, since such claims are too broad and sweeping. You could say that Bob is the best plumber in the city of Toelytt, or something of a localized sort, especially if it’s your city. Or you could even say that Bob claimed to be the best plumber in all Historica, since that is only reliant on his own ego and not ascertained fact. Second, as Grover said, there is relatively little established lore in the guilds. Yes, there is the epic canonical history that has been built over the years by the challenges, but there is no set in stone lore for “Elves do X” and “Dwarves live in Y”. If you want to say that a clan of orcs is friendly and only eats kale and quinoa, while doing their sun salutations and living on a lush island off the coast of Kaliphlin, then such a clan exists. But you can’t say that all orcs do that. Third, feel free to create your own races. Did Ninjago just release a cool new beast mold? Then make a new race with it! Lots of folks have spun off new races whenever it was convenient for their stories, while still keeping the more standard races present too (in Historica, outside Nocty at least, the most common races are human, elf, and dwarf, though there are plenty of gnomes, orcs, catfolk, drow, trolls, vampires, etc., as well as half-breeds of all of them). Sometimes the new races even enter the official lore, like the evil minidoll elves. Otherwise, go hog wild and have fun building! Ask more questions when you have them.
12. Like all old maps, there is a great deal of ambiguity about borders. No official survey teams have been sent out to precisely mark the limits of territory, and quite frankly, with all the unrest in Nocty, they’re vulnerable for a stronger southern or northern lord to scoop up some lands on the sly. You know, plow a few extra acres each year, or extend the wall a bit further than is justified by the land grant, or whatever. Heck, maybe Mitgardia and Kaliphlin should just conspire together to take over Nocty and split it 50-50.
13. Glad he got some work! More like Bob the sporadically-employed Avalonian plumber.
14. A New Ruler, a Mad Ruler Rufus had expected to be pursued – collusion with obscure groups on the wastelands, plot with enemies of the crown in the mountains, use and traffic of illegal substances – one needed only choose which. Yet, he strutted. His chin pointing to the sky, and a crooked smile carved out on his face. Rufus reached the square and glanced at his brothers, all suited in full armor, surrounding a group of weak and outdated old men. The Rego on the center, waved to one side and the other, and when his eyes met Rufus’s, he stopped. A black shadow covered the square as if the sun had been a blown off flame in a dark room. A roar echoed through the canals and panic took the cobblestone streets. An obscure creature opened its leathery wings and lurched over the houses surrounding the main square. Its deafening roar was enough to break the encirclement of guards and leave the Rego exposed. The creature opened its mouth filled with infinite chains of teeth, as the ruler squeezed himself against the terracotta walls and beneath him, a yellow pool formed and ran to the flowing waters of the Varlyrian canals. The Rego’s councilor was shrunken on the ground, and noticing his ruler stripped from all his power, saw no alternative beside to acknowledge his new superior. “All hail the new king, the Mad Rufus Baiamonte!” Rufus laughed and his eyes gleamed gold as the sun, as he saw his future sitting on a new throne, under the chant of “Mad Rufus! Mad Rufus! Mad Rufus!”. ______________________________ An entry to the collaborative category of Challenge V. My teammates are @Gideon and @Louis of Nutwood.
15. I'm sure they do, since most roads do have names. Have they ever been named in Historican lore? Maybe, maybe not. But just as Main Street can turn into Highway 36, so too can "Westroad" in Settlement A be called "Bob's Lane" in Settlement B. Which is to say, call them whatever you please. Perhaps the road towards Eastgate is Eastgate Road, and one going south could be "South Road", or whatever is convenient for you and your story. Does that answer the question?
16. I love the river, and the cutaway bank is perfect. I am super impressed with the variations in the water color, which makes it look that much more authentic, like a real body of water with different depths. Not sure I’d want to be walking on a path right above that overhang, but you nailed the look. As usual, the foliage is excellent, and love the whip tree.
17. Welcome, @Silver.Smith! Or should I say, welcome back! Glad to see a veteran of Avalonia returning to the fold.
18. What is this, the Revenge of the Fifth? Please don’t alter the deal any further!
19. Whoops, my bad! It was something I was wondering, though, so thanks for answering! I'll try not to ask too many inane questions...
20. I’m assuming that the LEGO logo on the studs of bricks is ok? And what about printed elements with the LEGO logo? Or were you just meaning that we can’t add the logo in post-processing?
21. That sounds good. Welcome back!
22. It's ambiguous. For some it seems to have been a decade or more, for others a few years, for some just months. How much time do you want to have elapsed?
23. Well, if you have some time on your hands, the full canon is here: GoH Lore, books 1-3. It's pretty long, though, so the gist is this: Lord Raavage rose from the ashes of Revolword's elemental attack, took over Nocturnus, and tried to take over the rest of Historica, too. There were Algus in Mitgardia, the Desert King and Ulandus in Kaliphlin, and Drow and a plague in Avalonia, and there were some connections between all of them, shadowy alliances with Raavage. The Algus were defeated, the Drow were defeated, and the Desert King defeated the High Council and the Ulandians, and still rules in Kaliphlin now. But Raavage was defeated at last, and a new ruler was crowned, Queen Ylspeth. And that's where we are today.
24. Looking great! The entry way is beautiful, and the carving on the right looks excellent! Maybe another step up to the landing would be good, since minifigs have tiny little legs. Now to build the rest, right?
25. The Stud One of the most classic symbols of the American West is the mustang stallion, the untamed spirit of the mesas and scrublands. I lived in Colorado for seven years, and pictures and statues of horses were everywhere, including a demon stallion greeting folks at the Denver airport. So, inspired by such memories, and on the heels of my American icons of the Monarch butterfly and American robin, I bring the stud stallion. I seem to be on a nature streak these days, inspired by the Style it Up contest. This week's prompt was to build something with no visible studs. So of course I built a stud horse. It's also an entry to the Iron Forge, with minifigure legs in the tiny cacti/bush things. C&C welcome.
