  4. The Old Mill A freebuild for Avalonia There are countless old mills around the countrysides of Avalonia, along every stream and river, wherever the local farmers can bring their abundant harvests from their fertile fields. They vary in style, with some being powered by the current of the river from below, while others, like this one, are powered by water falling over the top of them. More than any other building in Avalonia, more than the castles, the towers, the palaces, the mills symbolize the wealth, prosperity, and fertility of the realm. May the mills never stop grinding in the green fields! And it spins, too, if a tad aggressively due to the only LEGO motor in my collection being a single-speed RC car. C&C welcome!
  5. @Piobre, first off, welcome! We are always happy to have new faces in the Guilds, even if you chose poorly in settling in the icy tundra rather than the verdant forests of Avalonia :) Second, there is a limit to how many pictures you can host on Eurobricks itself. So to post any more, you will need to link to an external photo hosting site. Flickr is great, since it is free (up to 1000 pics) and almost every LEGO builder uses it. It’s what I do, myself. There are instructions on how to link pictures and much more in the FAQ thread, and specifically about Flickr images, too. I hope that helps, and I look forward to seeing more of your builds!
  6. Glad to see some Hesperian messengers still flying around! It's been a while since I was back in Hesperia. Heck, it's been a while since I was in Druidham! I should build for the Guilds more...
  7. Simon builds castle? Mind blown.
  8. That would be the effect of the daylight, yes. Any sort of diffuse light would make the central shrine lighting indistinguishable from the rest. I did take one picture with light from another source, too, angled like the setting sun, but the whole build just becomes bright and cheery then, not the dark and magical vibe I was hoping to achieve. As for layering with post processing, that’s beyond my skills, I am afraid. I have never used Photoshop and have never learned to use Gimp well. I mostly just stick to Paint.net, which is very basic. The rocks are not meant to be far away, though, but instead to be very close to the shrine, and so would be reflecting the glare of the magical light. Does that help see it differently? Haha, yes they do, though I did not buy anything specially for this build, so it was not costly in that sense (building the collection to this point, on the other hand...). Glad you like it; cinematic shots are what I strive for! Glad you like the vegetation. The trees were much more fun to make than the rocks!
  9. Love it! I kind of wish that Bob were your official sigfig, in fact. A great intro story. Reminds me of my own character intro, where I had a few Jedi with some Republic troopers crash land a spaceship into an Avalonian Druid ring...
  10. I don’t know why I couldn’t get this to work when editing the post, but here is the picture. I’ll try again on a different device later. Looks great, by the way! Love the lighting.
  11. Thanks! Thank you, glad you like it! Thanks for your feedback during the build process! The legend itself is one of the official bits of Avalonia lore since the beginning of the guild, so I thought I’d finally bring it to life. Thanks, Grover! The cliffs were the hardest part of this for me, such a slog attaching all the different bits with mixel joints. But of course the back has to get wider to allow for the wide shot, and ugh, it keeps going! Thanks, Geneva! The waterfall light is a light brick shining down through transparent clear (and not-so-clear yellowed ones from the 60s) bricks. Your brother thought that I should find a way to make the waterfall stand out, and that’s what I came up with. Glad it works. As for the rest, I agree that the lighting is a bit confusing. My intention with the black sky and dark trees is that it is indeed night, but that a bright light caused by the Druid magic is shining on everything, radiating out from the shrine. There is more light than I wanted, honestly, but the whole thing is only lit by a single small flashlight with a tube on the end to focus the light more already! And a light brick, I guess. But I get the criticism, I just didn’t have a way to fix it. The build is still together, though, so if you have any ideas of improving the lighting, let me know and I might try a re-shoot.
  12. I built something for the guilds! And it is in Avalonia, too:
  13. Long ago, dark and dim in the shadows of history, the land of Avalonia was inhabited by powerful Druids. But over the years, their numbers declined, and declined, until only one was left. Using all the power left in his old body, and the powers of his brethren stored in the stone of his staff, he cast one final spell, hiding the greatest treasure of the Druids and their most sacred shrine from the world. No one has ever found the shrine, hidden somewhere in the mist-shrouded Mystic Isles, nor the treasure it contains, though many have spent or lost their lives looking... __________________________________________ .................................................................................... C&C welcome, and all that. This build spiraled out of control, measuring at final count something like 110x80 studs. And I have now sworn off immersive landscape builds...
  14. Very fun! So when are you announcing that you have switched guilds? We've got a lovely pair of green tights for you, and plenty of huggable trees that can be all yours!
  15. Umm, that depends on how you want it to have progressed. After the Black Spire was defeated, Queen Ylspeth, daughter of the old king, took the throne. She's been reigning an indefinite amount of time, long enough to have survived several coup attempts and stabilized the guilds, but not long enough to have gotten married and produced an heir to the throne. For some of us (like me), a jump of maybe 5-10 years happened between Book II and Book III. For others, a jump of maybe 30? years happened (like @de Gothia, who is now the aged king of Avalonia, while his strapping sons in the prime of life rule in Sionnach). So perhaps long enough to have moved on to the next generation if you want to, but not so long that you would be forced to if you did not want to. Does that clarify things at all?
  16. Being that it is nearly summer in Mitgardia, it’s finally warmed up to a balmy 33 degrees F/1 degree C... But it would be great to see some fresh Kabel builds! Maybe a resurrected Steen? Or a Steenson?
  17. Thanks! I’d probably build the whole scene, since that’s how I roll, but just wanted to check. In case time starts running out towards the end, you know? We’ll see if I get time to enter this year. Hopefully!
  18. @MKJoshAThanks! One further question, if one were to build a ship from concept art, would it be ok to just post the ship, or would it need to be in the whole concept art scene? I think you imply that one could just build the ship, but I wanted to be sure.
  19. To be sure I understand, one can either make a LEGO build of SW concept art, or a LEGO build of a scene from a SW movie/show?
  20. And the Nangini snake from HP has printing now!
