  1. You should definitely hop into Challenge V, as Grover said. But there are no Avalonia-specific contests afoot for now. But whether you enter or not, we're happy to see you back!
  2. Probably an unhatched egg, but I'm not sure. I just wanted to put a Mandalorian helmet in there, since it was medium-light blue and rounded.
  3. The First Robin of Spring The American Robin is one of the most recognizable birds in North America, seen in everyone's backyard pulling up worms. Mine does not have a worm, as it was not possible with my bricks and the look I wished to achieve, but I'm sure next time she visits her chicks she'll bring them something wiggling to eat. The branch beneath stands on just three Technic connectors, and the robin is flying with the tip of her tail connected to the branch. A 1x1 round plate with bar fits into the end of a dino neck-twig to achieve the floating look without Photoshop. After building a butterfly for last week's Style it Up contest symmetrical category, I settled on an American robin greeting her chicks for this week's prompt, which was to build something supported by a maximum of four studs. It's also an entry to the Iron Forge, with minifigure legs in the bark and in the little birds' wings. C & C welcome.
  4. Absolutely! There is no reason you can't just resume what you had been working on. We'd love to see you building again!
  5. So what part of Avalonia is this in? Looks awesome, and I would buy this in a heartbeat.
  6. That is correct. Thanks! The fabric is all capes, of various shapes. A bunch of them come from Batman, but there is on from the Highwayman and a few other cape shapes as well, whatever I had lying about. And yes, I used the Ninjago cowl piece for the lower crowsnests and Black Panther ear/hat things for the upper level.
  7. @Gideon and @Louis of Nutwood, I would be happy to join you on a team. My involvement is somewhat complicated by the fact that I have only about 2 weeks to build anything, as I am moving in a month and will need to pack away all the bricks prior to that, and probably won't have them back out and ready to use before the end of the competition. I am also competing in a different contest that takes up my time, so as long as my expected contribution is modest, I can take part. And then we'd have an Avalonian, a Mitgardian, and a Kaliphlinian on a team.
  8. Thank you, I had some frustrat fun times making them! Thanks, I am glad you like it!
  9. Thanks, I love engine greebles myself, so I'm happy when others do, too!
  10. Thanks! Glad you like it! I always enjoy a LEGO model that looks like something else at first glance, belying what it really is until you look closer. Thanks! I am too daunted by large scale ships, so this was the perfect size for me.
  11. Monarch Butterfly I built this butterfly for Innovalug's Style it Up contest, where the prompt was to build something, anything, that was perfectly symmetrical across a line. I was trying to come up with something cool to build for the contest, not wanting a generic car or spaceship, and my wife just said, "Easy, build a butterfly." So, to fulfill her wish, I built Danaus plexippus, better known as the Monarch, perched on a cluster of leaves. I'm fairly satisfied with the outcome, because those angles were a real bother in the wings. It should have more white spots in the black area, but LEGO plates don't go that small, and fiddling with rods isn't my thing. C & C welcome. I was not entirely sure if the Special Themes forum was the right place for it, but it seemed like the best fit of the available options. If it should go somewhere else, I hope a mod will graciously move it.
  12. Beautiful build, but now I have that song from Frozen II stuck in my head. The lighting effect is killer, and I love the tree made from whips. You've made that into a signature move of yours, and it's great.
  13. I added a few more, as requested. It's all I took, besides a few repeats, so I hope it satisfies!
  14. It's all black, so this is actually a full color photo! No editing beyond the cropping. I do have a few more pictures, but nothing too different from what you see here, just 3/4 rear shot. The Style It Up contest is hosted on Discord, so you need to sign in to Discord to access it, which is totally free and easy to sign up for.
  15. The Black Pearl I built this for Innovalug's Style it Up contest, where the prompt was to build something, anything, with only one color. So after contemplating many colors and subjects (spaceship, dragon, etc.) but ultimately rejecting them all, I started building a ship. Then, since my color was black, I settled on the Black Pearl of Pirates of the Caribbean fame as a reference. She's not a perfect likeness, as I did not bother with all of the gunports and other details like that, as it would have been beyond my collection at this scale, but I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. C & C welcome.
  16. The UoP is theoretically still open, though there have not been many "students" there for a while. As long as there are three Kali members willing to post a comment on a build, it should still be open. As for MOCs, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Every build you do should have its own topic created just for it here in the Guilds, and the pictures you post there typically link back to Flickr. Don't just share a picture here in this thread. But when you say something about it here in the Mitgardia thread to get other builders excited about it or put it into the freebuilds thread, you are linking back to the build's topic thread, not your Flickr. Does that answer the question? Dang, you beat me by .02 seconds, SK!
  17. Yes, we have had many builders who posted renders. The better the render quality, the better feedback we can give on the actual building, but renders are fine. Not all contests will accept them, but for regular freebuilds they work. And there is nothing wrong with building with a limited parts collection! You don't need a PAB wall in your basement to build cool stuff.
  18. B-Wing Starfighter The B-Wing Starfighter is a new addition to the Neo-Classic Space fleet, featuring dual cockpits, antenna arrays, lots of thrust, and some potent blasters. She's not the most maneuverable ship in the galaxy, but she's got it where it spells, kid. Over on Flickr and Instagram, Dave Kaleta (I don't think he's on Eurobricks, but I could be wrong) is hosting a contest to build alphabet starfighters. Since I love both spaceships and literacy, I decided to join in the fun. I had to start with my favorite letter, B, piloted by a blue 1980s-something spaceman (and a yellow 2019 spaceman, too). This is my first foray into Neo-Classic Space, and I am decently pleased with the results. And I finally finished a spaceship that I liked, which is a plus, after failing for several years. I threw in as many Classic Space pieces as I could, like the three loudspeakers/positioning rockets on the back, or the computers in the twin cockpits. But of course it is Neo-Classic Space, not Classic Space, so lots of modern curves and tiles made it in, and copious greebles. When viewed from above, it makes a lovely B. C&C welcome.
  19. Ha! I was the first to welcome Beleg, then. But either way, Avalonia shines as a welcoming people.
  20. After consulting with the other leaders, no, there is no height restriction. The text was meant to be interpreted as you said, that you can have any shape as long as you do not exceed the 784 studs.
  21. Welcome, Beleg! Make sure that you announce yourself in the dedicated thread for Mitgardia, too, so SoccerKid6 can get you added in. I look forward to seeing what you can build!
  22. Make it longer, like 14x56, and then you have more space. Or use vertical space to your advantage, which I know you can do having seen your Avalonia:GoT entry. Forced perspective, clever camera angles, all these things can help with the limited space.
  23. I'd recommend making your own, though you can build in other cities if you wish.
