  1. Keep them and open them, obviously, and count yourself lucky to have found them for cheap. At least that is what I would do, since I have never had the self-control to sit with an unopened Lego box for more than a few hours...
  2. I just assumed that that was some European term...
  3. Or that you like your Mitgardians to be constantly beset by bad guys of one sort or another, or else refugees fleeing from the chaos of the Nocturnian civil war.
  4. Fair enough. I did not even see that little sledge. A good detail! I am glad that the barrenness was well-thought out, and that makes more sense. I guess I just like trees...
  5. I'm a lord! Hooray! Though I should point out that Henjin's surname is Quilones, not Quinones... (I uncreatively made a combination of (Henry a.k.a. Indiana) Jones and (Peter a.k.a. Starlord) Quill, the faces that make up the Quilones family of brothers; the other brothers, Indin and Pettr, are not in Historica, but Henjin and Bu'kanjin are. James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, a.k.a. Winter Soldier, has the same face as Peter Quill, as it turns out.)
  6. Reminds me of a Lego cake I had as a kid, a giant (for me at age 6) castle with knights on it...
  7. It's beautiful! I have been waiting to see it all put together, trying to imagine what the finished product would look like and how it would all fit together, and seeing it now exceeds what I could have thought. Everything works so well together and was clearly well-planned from the start. Things that puzzled me before (like the harbormaster's house in front of the wall, but no water or harbor to master in the smaller build) now make sense, and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts (which were by themselves great). Now I wish that I had had the free time this past weekend to make the drive to Chantilly to see it in person...
  8. I enjoy the burned look of the house, very well captured in brick form. I also love how you used the red flowers with the antennae for bloody arrows in one victim's chest. If anything, I would say that the ground could use some different textures, maybe a few more 1x1 rounds in brown or tan (or dark or light grey on the path), or something to break up the rectangles. Some round plates could be helpful too, especially on the path. But that is minor, as I like the composition and the overall build, especially the house.
  9. I know, but I do not always like doing so, particularly when there is a significant gap in time between.
  10. I apologize for the double post, but here is the second part of my Task 1 entry, a smattering of the elven armies of Hesperia: The king of Hesperia, Fingolë the Golden, stands in the center, flanked by his eldest children, Fingalad and Falaria. Behind him are the cavalry, to the right the archers, and to the left some of the nobles and generals, including Naara, Lady Steward of the city of Istolia (in white), and Dronlë, her Lord Consort. To the far left is Galaria, the youngest daughter of Fingolë and the leader of the small band of wolfriders.
  11. As promised, Henjin with his companions (for Avalonian Task 1): Henjin is the one in the middle on the left, next to the white wolf, Skoll. His brother, Bu'kanjin, is to the right of him in the picture, by his wolfsteed, Biryuk. Back row: Ollo Flines, Kilvar, Oliffr, Gree, Thamar, Gimlor, Theodain, Kenan Front row: Malonor, Raveneye, Reyska, Thorra, Finbold, Thalassa It has been rather overcast here of late, so sorry about the lighting.
  12. It's a good idea. It's free and easy to use, and Eurobricks has some helpful tutorials in the FAQ section about how to use it to share pics on the forum.
  13. Aside from the picture quality, I think you have done a good job with the SNOTed 1x4x1 log bricks to make the wall; it creates the impression of logs stacked on top of each other to form a simple sort of barrier rather nicely. In fact, you have quite a bit of SNOT-work here, which I always like to see. (Of course, I had to click on your link to see it, since your picture was so fuzzy )
  14. Well, technically I was welcomed a month and a half ago for the first time when I expressed interest in joining, and then a month ago when I posted a sidekick-fig, and now again with my official sigfig, which I can finally post since I am finally moved into my new house and unpacking my bricks for the first time in months. But thank you for your welcome! After sorting through the mess of half-disassembled spaceships and castles and organizing and fully disassembling I will be able to attempt some builds of a decent size. It is a daunting task, but worth it, I hope, in the end.
  15. Well done on the cliffs there. They look great! The top of the cliffs, however, in my opinion looks a little bland; a tree or two would help with that, I think, breaking up the plane of the top. Also, the working area could use some more texture, kind of what BC said above. I think a small hut could have been nice, too, but not necessary. Maybe a cart from inside the mine, dumping material? But it is a good base and you did a nice job on the elevation build-up as well. I also enjoy your figures. Overall, a good build!
  16. At long last, I would like to introduce my official sigfig, Henjin Quilones, Knight of Stangraf: Henjin has been a knight for a while, ever since he passed the trials, but he is new to the world of Historica. While full details of his arrival will be told later on in the second chapter of The Chronicles of Hesperia (once it gets built, that is), suffice it to say now that he was the cause of the fiery streak in the sky in the first chapter witnessed by Galaria, the elven princess. He arrived with a band of loyal companions (who will also hopefully be posted soon) who have served with Henjin and his brother, another knight named Bu'kanjin, in many battles in many lands. They were drawn by the mystical power of the ancient druids, who left behind ruins imbued with deep magics that can penetrate the depths of the cosmos. Henjin is adept with both the longsword and the bow, and soon after his arrival in the Kingdom of Hesperia in the Guild of Avalonia he met and tamed a wolf to be his steed, in the manner of the elven wolfriders. The white wolf, Skoll, never leaves his side and is as fearless in battle as his master. They serve the elvenking of Hesperia, Fingolë the Golden, together with his daughter, Galaria. Man, it feels good to have the bricks back.
  17. Those are some great looking dunes! Too bad we cannot get them to look like that without Photoshop, though. Dunes are always fun. And your 1x1 trans round sky is great, too, but we've seen that before.
  18. I love so many things about this build, too many to list, but here are a few of them. First, the bellows in your smithy. How is the top part attached to the lower at that angle? I would like to 'borrow' the design for my own smithy in the future... Second, the use of the rubbery hose elements for the curved window openings outside of the treasury. That looks great and is a clever use of the part. Third, the use of those black pieces on the columns; I only have one, but it usually just sits around untouched, so I am glad to see them put to good use. Fourth, the platform on the outside is great, I love the snotted wood pieces like that. The only thing I slightly dislike about the overall model is the very busy-looking rockwork outside. I love the rockwork, do not get me wrong, and it is (as usual) very well executed, but on a model of this scale it starts (in my opinion) to look too cluttered, almost like it is a giant pile of rubble or scree, perhaps, rather than an imposing single edifice of living bedrock. The top part, with the larger smooth curves, looks better in that regard to me. It is hard to do with bricks, especially as the final build of a large collab, and I know I could not figure it out with my limited piece count, but I think there has to be a way to make a huge cliff-like mountain look like a huge mountain, rather than a big pile of rocks. All that being said, I think it is a great final piece of what has been a fantastic collaborative build. I hope that you will post several good pictures of all of the modules connected together, as I will be unable to make it to Brickfair VA, despite my (relatively) close distance from it. Also, as a final note, who is stealing the dwarves' treasure? Are they Algus? Drow? Something else?
  19. I know, "more what you call guidelines than actual rules", to borrow a phrase. I was merely saying that I was planning to call them something in my own land, throwing out my two cents of thought about how I think they should be called, in case someone else wanted to build off of the idea. I am also curious to know what other people call them, as they really do make terrific bad guys in an Avalonian story, or else just another race to populate Historica. With Lavaria and Whiparella, there are even two disinctly female figures to go with the six or seven different male-ish faces. If you plop their heads on the red dragon faction from the ill-fated Castle 2013 series, the red arms look good, too. And some come with wings, which I love. Perhaps they are Draconians, if anyone has read some part of the Dragonlance series.
  20. I was planning on the LotR Uruk-hai being called red orcs, and the tan/brown LotR/Hobbit orcs being called brown orcs. So that would necessitate the Nexo lava monsters being called something else. But I don't make the rules in Nocturnus...or anywhere else, except the small land of Hesperia in the west of Avalonia.
  21. This is a lovely little pub room, with all the things one would expect to see, food, drinks, and fights. I love the story and the exposition of the style of brawling. The minifigures look good, and it is clearly a rough crowd with all of those knives held behind backs. My favorite part is the rough stone of the lower walls and the peeling plaster of the upper, as it gives the place a feel of dinginess and age. I could wish for more of a roof, as I always love seeing those, but the rafters give a fair approximation of what to expect (and allow for better light for photos). Good work!
  22. We finally moved into our new house over the weekend, so now begins the long unpack, but I at least can see and touch my bricks again. Now I just need to clear enough space and begin the long process of reorganizing everything, as it is a bit jumbled up. But look for a formal introduction of Henjin Quilones and his company soon! And then the builds should begin to follow, time and family allowing.
  23. I had been planning on calling them Lavarians in my own mythology out west, since they arise out of the lava of a volcano. But I was also planning on calling the volcano Lavaria, so that could just be their territorial affiliation.
  24. This is a lovely little work-in-progress (not that it is a WIP for you, but for the Maestro and his architect). I most enjoy the block of stone being moved into place on the top, a sort of middle-of-the-action moment. However, is a wall really going to stop the Drow? I thought that they dug tunnels underground...
  25. As I said before, at least it has good-looking bad guys, such that I almost went Nocturnian before ultimately choosing Avalonia. It's just about the only silver lining I have been able to find.
