Volvo Crane Truck - 42078 C-model
Void_S replied to mpj's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yawww... Now it's a fully playable set that has imho even more playability rather than the A model. I see this set now is accompanied with 42098 as a fantastic pair or truck-about competitors: DBG vs Red, modern-effective vs old-school classic (I still prefer 42078 for unique solutions). And new models still keeps coming, thank you guys for making this world amazing! -
Technic 2020 Set Discussion

Well, it may come true: drive + halfframes rotation/steering + dump unloading. The same features, so even don't need to change something in the software. However, looking on how TLG made the Control+ layouts, controls etc. making any B-model generally may mean making another Control+ profile. Unless it's the same A-Model but differently shaped. -
42112 Concrete Mixer Truck

So, the color scheme is the same as for Bucket Wheel Excavator and Heavy-Duty Forklift: Dark-blue + Yellow + White/light bluish-gray. Suppose some stickers for the cabin with yellow stripes. -
I believe so but just wasn't very optimistic as the model itself could be bulky enough to fit the full-size unit. Like 42109 that was screaming for something more compact So, I'm really looking forward to see 2020 H2 sets anyways.

That would be great, because otherwise we have only RC-purposed units that are very huge and expensive to be used just as "dummy" power sources. Seems I have missed it, thanks!

This and last year we got interesting Control+ electrical system that gave wider RC possibilities. They have a lot of advantages and disadvantages that were discussed here a lot in the different topics. My input here it the thing that still bothers me: The sets with motor(s), usually with a single one, purposed to move some actuators, rotate some turntables, give some air pressure (42053, 42055, for instance) Or their "manual" brothers that have the same functions powered by a manual knob(s) with possibility to add a motor to them (42029) So, why I'm talking about them? Just because these set categories have the thing that is common for them and looks useless and pointless without PF-motorization (not RC-control for drive&steer): the distribution and/or direction gearbox. You have a single motor and many levers that turns on and off some machinery functions powered by this motor. Alternatively, they have a single knob (which not very nice for play - rotate and rotate it moving some LAs, ughhh) but just made to be replaced with a motor. Other "pure-manual" sets have a lot of knobs - each for each own function, outrigger, winch, etc. One function - one knob. It is great for play with no motors, so you can raise the crane arm and release the rope at the same time just by spinning two opposite knobs (42108). My concern is, if we have Control+ as a PF replacement and still got no affordable and compact "static power source" (LiPo or a battery box) for a single Control+ motor, does it mean that we may have no "motorized" set with gearboxes in further? Updated 2020-01-30: soon we will know if 42113 Bell Osprey have a "dummy" power unit, or something else... So far we only know that the infographic presented on PoweredUp overview may be still actual. Notice the central section with a simple hub:

42112 Concrete Mixer Truck
Void_S replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yep, it also would be strange to build something else having 8 wheels... 4-wheeled truck + 4-wheeled trailer. It could be like 42043 Arocs or nowdays C-models for 42098 - the same truck turned into a prime mover (tractor) with a shorter wheelbase and two axles and the payload moved to a semitrailer. Easy to rebuild, better for play (truck+trailer is always funnier than a rigid truck). Added: Following it, I would say it strongly reminds me that @mpj's model: -
42112 Concrete Mixer Truck
Void_S replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, I think we did 3 out of 5: 49.5 wheels, moulded drum and manual/driven drum rotation. So, if still the drum is moulded... there are two possible B-models (if it is, for sure): Another mixer Snowplow.... Really, if the drum is rectangular enough, its inner "worming" could be taken as an "auger snowplow". Is the cabin an EU "cabover" or NA "nosed" one? I suspect the first option... -
Bricklink and Chinese Parts
Void_S replied to Jubuilder's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yep an a few years ago even when the BrickLink wasn't bought by TLG it was a discussion of "penalty" for non-original parts if they were possibly sent by some shop and the conclusion was that would a kind of "death sentence" for such shops, if they were catch on selling "fakes" in terms of BrickLink (you have ordered, you have paid but got a different thing of different quality). But the most important is that TLD mods changes continually, so only "LEGO" stamp must be a signal.. -
Technic 2020 Set Discussion
Void_S replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Then the gearbox should be RC-ed as well (automatic transmission would be ideally) and all in all, all these things are actual IF the designers put the model as RC-playable model which is rare for big a fragile enough sets that are mostly "diamonds for showcases". -
Technic 2020 Set Discussion
Void_S replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For instance, there could be some play with a comparison of the "cement mixer" and "carousel" - they both spins and usually both are pained in bright with different stipes to demonstrate the spinning. -
I see the point here, and recalling the days when I was a young child (now my child is growing up ) I see that all my ideas were ugly, half-backed, imperfect... But the feelings, I remember that all these things have never stopped me making and inventing: I never know the "gears ratio" term but realized that "this and this gears make the fan wings spinning faster... Hey, I like the wind that it makes , how can I make it spinning even faster?". That was amazing and now, yeah, "it's just a transmission, just a gearbox". So, it was all about the child inside us and we shouldn't stop the other's "children", whatever old or young they are. Just don't say "don't waste time on that, it won't work anyways" but watch how the magic works and the things you have never realized come true and make our world better. I believe

If I'm not mistaken, that link should show the parts remaining from he 42078 set after building this Volvo crane truck: https://rebrickable.com/sets/compare/slow/?1-set=MOC-34643&1-inv=45806&1-user_list=&2-set=42078-1&2-inv=21270&2-user_list= -

Volvo Crane Truck - 42078 C-model
Void_S replied to mpj's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have replied at RB but here will write once again - the steering system is a good ancestor to 42054 Claas (has no ever a single gear or rack) and just pure genius! -
42112 Concrete Mixer Truck
Void_S replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Having the same price as 42108 (still can't stop typing them as 420<something> ), 62.4-tires scale could make very "empty", I afraid. However, in case if (for some reason - we still don't know the details) it comes like a self-loading cement mixer rather the truck with a mixer, those wheels could be reasonable: -

Sounds similar to 42069's alternate Helicopter. Well I don't mind to see some kind of it as an official set as well. -
Since a year (and even more) I found that I have something unfinished. I made a better version of the Crawler axle with buggy motor that is: compact (has the same dimensions as the original one). I like the version presented by @rm8 but it had a very long "nose" as the motor itself protrudes way forward so it may touch the obstacles especially with original-sized wheels. So now it's not! faster. I changed the gearing and now it works from the fast output, next via 20:28 (to diff), next to 12:20 and 8:24 in portal hubs, so 1:7 in total. Powerful enough to twist some axles in portal hubs when stall by hard and fast enough to make some burnout at "ludicrous" mode of BuWizz. Really, the burnout of 41999 Boss Crawler is great! And, all in all, despite some strange solution it is still well-braced, as used part friction is enough to keep the gears in place. https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-34607/VoidSerpent/939841999-axle-with-buggy-motor/#comments And in comparison with the original axle assembly (red vs blue): To admins and moderators: sorry if I revived the old dust here but I couldn't leave it unfinished especially as some peoples (like me) were expecting some building instructions for "the most powerful 9398".

42075 Terminal Tractor

Third??? OMG, this set is going to be sold out way before its retention period Can't wait so see it anyways! As for that hard-worker-docker, I have told at RB and will put it here: very authentic model, with functions that preforms amazingly! And "ugly" enough as it should be for that vehicles
