The big advantage Lego has over Hasbro is that for the most part it only has to mold a head , or hair/hat to create a new figure, as the bodies are all standardised. And considering it's rare for a set to include any newly molded parts, the rest of the set uses existing parts, alll be it occasionally in new colours. From that point of view, not including more new characters in sets seems very tight on Legos part. C'mon Lego, give Pittpenguin his Yahk face!

The future of StarWars media expansion and collecting.
Flandy replied to RetroInferno's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don't like the prequel trilogy, but beyond that, I'll take anything and everything I can afford! My shelf budget is going to have to expand in the coming years...... -
Beautiful shaping! Very impressive indeed!

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Flandy replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Most cost effective has to be the currently available one, especially with the triple VIP points, which is an effective 15% discount. Previous system scale falcons are inferior, and the UCS one is about 10 times more to buy even if you bricklink it. If you can find a cheaper used earlier system version, then it might be worth it, but they lack detail and accuracy the further back in time you go. -
On a like for like price, how do the sets compare? Are Star Wars sets more vehicle based and less spent on the minifigures?

Hope so!

I got the U-wing and Krennics shuttle and claimed my FO stormie. Triple points and £10 off with the GB10 discount code made it very worthwhile. I was hoping to get the whole wave but my laptop crapped out last week and replacing it ate a big chunk of the lego budget.

I think it's compromised in terms of accuracy, but trying to replicate the acual angles, widths, and tapers of the real thing is almost impossible if you're going to end up with something with the playability and durability that TLG demands of it's products. Within those constraints I think the canopy is pretty good, and it'll work for a T65 if they do one. I know bcause I'm working on my own MOC at the moment.

I think the tree needs a few more branches, and the ground needs a bit more undergrowth for hiding behind, but it looks like a great way to display what is an excellent set.

Is there anything from the OT that has not been built?
Flandy replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Unfortunately, yes, and it comically rears up when the speeder gets too close and a Jawa falls off. Thanks Mr Lucas -
I mean non lego figures from the olden days, the technology to chrome plastic propery and cheaply has been around for decades

It's a damned sight cheaper than TC-14, that's for sure! I think you can buy the whole advent calender for about the same price as a TC-14 polybag..... TLG, Please sort out your general polybag global policy, it's beyond irritating to be charged several times original market price for something that's still available in some areas and not in others, for a minifigure.

I don't think TLG have much excuse for not giving us a chrome C-3PO. My C-3PO from the early 80's survived so much abuse and still had good chrome the last time I saw it, and my nephews are hard on any toys and they have many toys with chrome that look just fine. Those light saber hilts have just been chromed very poorly.

[MOD] 75102 X-wing S-foil, rubber band, and landing gear fix
Flandy replied to Flandy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Ok, step by step pics of how to build the top and bottom engines, and some pics of the wings showing the layers of their make up. Starting with the upper wing: There's not much to it, I didn't strip the laser down as i forgot, so you'll have to figure it out! Now the upper engine: It's a case of clipping the wing to the underside then, not worthy of a pic Next up the lower wing. There's detail of the technicy bit on the first page, so i didn't photo that, but the rest of it showing the layers is here: And the lower engine: And all together: So yeah, that's how it's made at this point, but as mentioned before I'd like to further improve it, and I'm open to suggestion! -
The UCS Hype. What will 2017 bring? (40th Anniversary)
Flandy replied to Major_Ton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Are we talking re release as in not updated to modern lego build techniques? Because that would be a great shame, although given the crazy price of the original this new one will be must buy regardless. it's just sad that Lego probably realise that and therefore have no incentive to improve upon the original, but I really hope I'm wrong and we get something similar to marshal_banannas amazing MOC: -
The UCS Hype. What will 2017 bring? (40th Anniversary)
Flandy replied to Major_Ton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well surely the building teqhniques, if not to everyone's tastes, at least yield the most accuracy. I don't remember particularly hating it when i was building mine, it just seemed like the most logical way to get the incredibly curved shape and provide support for the rest of the structure. I know about the sagging problem, and whilst after 6 months on display in the upright position, mine hadn't sagged, i did think it was a good solution for generally beefing up the structure. From an accuracy perspective, i don't see how it can easily be bettered, and that seems to be reflected in the lack of MOC's on this scale. -

A properly designed UCS Millenium Falcon done to the standards of Slave 1 would pretty much put Lego back in everyone's good books after the 2016 UCS mess. -

[MOD] 75102 X-wing S-foil, rubber band, and landing gear fix
Flandy replied to Flandy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Ah ok, the remodelling of the engines to hide the gubbins for the rubber bands. I'll do a strip down of an upper and a lower engine to try and show what's in those. I'll strip a wing too, show the three layers I have making them. You're right about the 12x3 wedge, but the plate is a 14x2, although I rebuilt the rear wings last week so that the 14x2 is replaced by a nuber of 1 stud wide plates in order to make the front edge of the wing more orange, or blue, as the real thing is. -
The price is rediculous, It keeps being said that this was a good seller, but are there any figures to back this up? The fact it was on sale for so long originally could be down to it being a slow seller, and certainly the number of unopened sets on ebay seems to indicate there were a lot of sets sold to speculators who thanks to this new set have lost out. How many of the originals were sold and how many are in the hands of kids who play with them? This new set just seems like a lost oppertunity to revamp and redisign the set to bring it up to 2016 lego standards.

[MOD] 75102 X-wing S-foil, rubber band, and landing gear fix
Flandy replied to Flandy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
What pics would you like? Not getting on with LDD, I just do this the old skool way with a few trays of lego in front of me on the dining table, and whilst the trial and error method seems to yield results, it's less helpful when you want to show others what you've done. I keep tweaking this and I'm planning on redesigning the engines for greater accuracy and strength. My ultimate goal is to have as accurate an x-wing as possible, whilst keeping the end result as playable as possible. My Nephews are my test bed on this, and so far it's the lower wing that's the weakest link. Recently i changed the lasers and the patterning on the wings to eliminate the stickers. -

I'm not saying TLG aren't capable of a lack of judgement like that, but that would be a pretty big lost opportunity, and a slap in the face for everyone.
