10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
TeriXeri replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It's a reference to the 2004-2006 Knight's Kingdom era , where the team of 4 knights had names and bright colored suits in red, green, medium blue, purple.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
TeriXeri replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I also hope it won't be a full mix of every castle theme ever made. The 1984-1992 era makes the most sense as that's the first and last time both Crusader and Falcon factions were produced.- 2,976 replies

Rumoured New In-House Theme Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Bricktales says it has 5 biomes : Jungle. Desert. Caribbean island. Medieval Castle City. Wasn't this codename "cocunut" with 4 sets ? Jungle/Desert/Caribbean all have palm trees, but I'm probably overthinking here. -

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
TeriXeri replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Falcon and Crusader make the most sense for sure, both had a castle each in 1984 and were depicted together in sets multiple times. 6062 clearly shows a Crusader battering ram attacking some section of Falcon walls. Maybe I judged the Black Knight faction too soon, 1988-1991 used the simpler helmets and shields without the special dragon plumes, so LEGO could recreate them with prints. 1992 Black Knight were a lot closer to 1993 Dragon Masters in terms of oval shields. 1992 was also the year where Wolfpack basicly replaced Forestmen as the bandit faction. I personally don't think there should be a skeleton if LEGO intends to keep it era-appropriate, a Ghost would be a much better fit, and also hasn't been made in a long time, LEGO has been making quite a bit glow in the dark recently again (especially Monkie Kid Lady Bone Demon sets and figures) I don't think there's a whole lot of demand for regular skeletons either, as often they aren't even counted as minifigs by AFOL, in sets like the 3-in-1 Pirate ship or Castle for example. Of course I'd like to see more uses of the Ninjago Skeleton torso and Head but I don't think that's really fitting for a 90th anniversary Castle set either.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
TeriXeri replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
For factions, I think it really depends what LEGO's goal will be. If it's just meant to represent the first grey castle era (1984-1987) it's probably mainly Crusaders, some Forestmen and some Falcons. Crusaders and Forestmen did continue into the early 90s but Black Knights did clearly replace the Falcon Knights, and later evolved into Dragon Masters in terms of design after 1993 (there was a dragon master knight using a black knight emblem shield in a 1995 set even) I rather see fewer factions and some details of those instead of just dilluting the pool of characters for the sake of inclusion. Having 2-3 factions and some civilians is better then just having 4+ knight factions imo, a lonely glow in the dark ghost or wolfpack bandit might work but a knight is usually part of a bigger "army" in such a big set. Currently Falcons are obviously in production, Forestmen can be as well as the parts are in production. If a greater era of Castle is celebrated it could get a bit more complicated in terms of moulds as well. Wolfpack cowl was last used 2016 so still fairly recent. Black Knight / Dragon Knight use a lot more specific helmets, and also specific horse-helmets. Helmet ornaments like these haven't been made in almost 20 year.- 2,976 replies

I think LEGO has the data, and I think LEGO is just careful with what "similar" in-house products are at the market at the same time. The last Castle sets were 2013, and some minifigs in 2014, LEGO Movie 1 had 70806: Castle Cavalry in 2014. Nexo Knight was likely already in development then and lasted from 2016-2018, Elves was also on the market until 2018. (I know Nexo or Elves weren't pure castle themes but certainly must have some influence on decision-making) Nexo did had concepts of Forest and Sea monsters if the theme lasted longer it'd go a "Fantasy" type of direction. Ninjago started weaving in elements of other themes into itself, starting with Pirates in skybound, but did continue after adding Legacy sets, with Islanders, Castle/Dungeon, and Aquatic subthemes. Ninjago also is the theme with Dragons for many years now, multiple dragon sets a year. 2020-2021 had the Ninjago Dungeon wave on shelves, quite a different approach to the theme, there was a mech but the set wasn't part of the "collect them all to make a boardgame", there were no other vehicles but a Dragon and Rhino beast, and "orc/troll", and black skeleton figures and color scheme a bit similar to 2007-2009 Fantasy Era, Skull Sorcerer instead of a normal Wizard. 2021 had the release of the 3-in-1 Castle and IDEAS set combo (kind of how 2020 was the year of Pirate Ships). 2021 had Castle in the Forest via Bricklink designer as well. 2021 also had Vidiyo with Dragon/Faerie characters which likely could've had themed stages if the theme wasn't canceled early. LEGO Masters had castles even up to the Final or Semifinal depending on region. The fact that a big 90th anniversary set would be a Castle doesn't surprise me.

Hopefully LEGO does more vehicles like this where the "criminal" vehicle isn't always red or darkred. I know the ice cream truck this year is another exception and red for a mini tractor makes sense.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
TeriXeri replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I've said some of this before but here are my current thoughts : I agree this is teasing at some Crusader/Lion Knight castle, but not just a simple 6080 remake on a massive wall. The era makes sense, it was the first grey castle (let's be honest, LEGO isn't going to remake Yellow Castle as a big set) When 6080 released in 1984, this started the official "LEGOLAND" era of Castle sets and introduced the horses, and Crusaders and Falcons each had a Castle set. 2 Black Falcon sets are on shelves right now, 2 of them in this teaser as well. 2016 Knight figure Gift with purchase celebrated the lion knights, as well as a Build-a-minifig had a big printed shield for them. A Joust is something iconic to Castle, and hasn't been done since 2012, and there were still multiple Jouster and Lance references afterward via Nexo Knights. City Horse Transport has re-introduced the saddle mould as well after quite a while so I think it was a only a matter of time, as well as a new horse color. LEGO has not forgotten it's Modularity of castle wall sections (even recent Ninjago dojo/training center uses it) so a big set like this probably has multiple sections that can be re-arranged.- 2,976 replies

The set had an official end date of 31 December 2021, which was known, however was out of stock months before that date.

I wonder if LEGO at some point will re-release Barracuda Bay as they have re-released Saturn V and Ship in a Bottle. I know the set was out of stock multiple months before the official end of 2021, but it didn't say "sold out" during the time, but "temporarily" , weird. I do have Barracuda Bay so I'm not concerned for myself but people could've missed out due to out-of-stock issues. Closest to a new "Pirate" set in the near future is the 3-in-1 Viking Ship, and there's also that Castaway Island IDEAS contest that'll probably be a GWP at some point. For now, 3-in-1 Pirate Ship still is sold as well but had a 20% price increase since 2022.

LEGO still has some magnets in production, one in a train buffer, the other in a helicopter set, and all those parts are rather large compared to the old magnets. Old magnet like was a lot smaller, which is what I meant.

Maybe the recent revamping of Pick a Brick/Bricks and Pieces might have something to do with it, LEGO re-organizing their process to monitor what older sets they can produce, + also maybe have some older but more known minifig-part-reproductions be popular via the B&P/BaM services (nostalgia is a strong factor). A lot of older sets use parts that haven't been made for years, or entire part-systems (think hinges), or retired colors, so it's still not an easy feat at all. Saturn V and Ship in Bottle were recent sets that were just re-released/extended, not too different with Vestas, Millenium Falcon or Death Star, but if we talk sets from before the 2000s it gets very complicated. But yes, I think the number of sets they'd offer at one time would be small and focused on iconic things, and not themes where like 90% of parts haven't been produced in a while,. Also things like Raised baseplates, Electronics, Magnets seem entirely out of the question.

Action and Adventure Themes Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
As for action themes, still have a long term plan to turn my Nexo figs into seperate knight factions at one point, which Ninjago figs could also fit in with their colors, and use parts from Nexo sets that don't fit into Castle-ish builds into other purposes like a Town or Space when suitable. The 3-in-1 Castle and upcoming 90th year anniversary Castle Rumor just accelerated it a bit. Starting to see a collection as a whole instead of just a display of sets , to me, is what makes LEGO a lot more special over some static display statues. The sorting/organizing is the biggest hassle, once getting past the mental step of taking sets apart and mixing their parts. Action theme set wise, the next hype that'll spark discussion probably will be the next wave of Ninjago, and probably Monkie Kid a few months after.- 230 replies

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Current 2022 Police / Fire / Medical vehicles mostly seem to have influences from various european countries, mainly Germany (Police) and some Denmark (Arhus Firetruck with remote watercannons, and Copenhagen Medical helicopter) Even so some designs do change over the years, some more often then others, my country only just recently changed from white with thinner blue/neon orange stripes, which was used for multiple decades, to white with thicker red/blue stripes on their cars when changing from Volkswagen to Mercedes. Netherlands did have 1 car with the recent blue/neon yellow stripes but later was said to be an april 1st joke (right car, Left is the current livery) Still , doesn't take away that many european countries do use variants of white/blue/neon yellow on their vehicles (UK, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Norway for example) -

Barracuda Bay and Ninjago Season 13 stopped production/retired, might be reason they were canceled if they ran out of parts. -

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I don't mind how City , Friends, or Creator 3-in-1 do a more colorful approach to their vehicles and builds, those themes are aimed at a different type of audience usually compared to more accurate depictions of builds via 18+, Speed Champions, Technic, IDEAS etc. If City was accurate in any way, 75% of it's cars would be white, black, grey or silver. As for Construction vehicles, Yellow might be the traditional standard in most LEGO Town or City in the past, but even way before that, LEGO used all sorts of colors for some of their construction vehicles. The stereotypical red/darkred vehicles for criminals in City might get a bit boring at this point, but 2022 still has some decent variation that aren't just plain red. (the criminal stickers could be left off the ice cream van, mini tractor, garbage truck sets), and the Police/Fire Chase set has a criminal using a black/teal car instead, more variance is a good thing and I think LEGO is starting to vary things up. (edited) In real life I see plenty of sand trucks, diggers, road rollers, cranes in colors other then yellow, or mixes of colors like blue/white, blue/orange, green/white etc. The more industrial Mining Trucks/Dozers/Diggers generally are yellow still in real life (CAT and Volvo especially), but there are still plenty of other colors across the globe. -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
TeriXeri replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice observations. I'm slowly in the process of seeing my collection as a sum of parts instead of just keeping things as displays, and according to the database sites I do have a lot of parts suitable for expanding something big like this upcoming Castle (especially the amount of greys/browns parts spread across many sets I could take apart) Long ago I only got 1 lion knight set (viking voyager), but the year I came back into LEGO (2016), I did get the GWP for the Lion Knight there. If anything, while I don't have any year 1999-2014 castle stuff, I can still see a lot of potential if I end up modding (swapping heads mostly) nexo knight figs into seperate factions (i don't mind the techy-prints on the armor, the most important thing are the emblems/colors could be sub-factions of a Castle, + a lot of those shield-insert tiles have cool prints to be special custom characters) Same with Ninjago sets of recent years, provided some cool stuff like skeletons , "orcs" , "goblins" etc, season 13 overall had great parts for rock-lava type builds, and the 2022 Dojo/Training center aren't bad part-wise either, and Dragons of course throughout the whole theme. Of course Blacksmith and 3-in-1 Castle can't be forgotten as a good modern Falcons collection + useful parts. Just built the training center, and it's a pretty good set, and good parts pack for rocks/wood type of stuff, no weird colors used, not even the technic pins, as they blend in with the grey/tan. Also no stickers in this set. I don't even mind the big slide part as it's in brown + its a play feature for the spinner etc, it's basicly an old part of the tree growing up the rock arch. 1 more snake figure would've been nice but I think the wooden snake mech/dummy thing is still unique enough as a replacement. Have not built the dojo yet so will see how it'll connect to multiple areas of it, but so far as a set it's a good one imo, one of the gates looks like it'll fit over the broken rocks dojo part as the pin holes and architecture match. The spinner isn't really my thing but the blue dish can still be used in some other purposes with anti-studs on the underside. I prefer Ninjago Location sets and since dojo+training center gets a full set of characters of the EVO wave. Hope LEGO keeps up the sets with connectable/reconfigurable wall sections, good for play and display, as it allows either a wide display on a shelf or something (almost 40cm wide), or a split layout for play. Overall Ninjago theme still delivers in terms of value and often gets discounted early too.
-
Yeah to me it really depends on the set, for 2022, the Ninjago Dojo + Training Center looks to be one of the better "parts pack" types of sets (and you get a full set of ninja+wu+pixal with those 2 sets) , as 3-in-1 doesn't really have a house this year yet. Of course it depends what you want to build, but this ninjago dojo set does have some nice colors for rocks/wood and Tan plates are versatile enough. Anyway, back to the main topic. I am currently still displaying most of my sets as-per-instructions but plan to mass-deconstruct a lot of them to start MOCing at a larger scale. I've become a lot more selective on what sets to buy (I've never been into Licenses , and only been "completionist" on a few waves of themes) Long term the main set I'll probably keep as-is would be the Barracuda Bay ship (my largest model).
-
I remember the big bulk boxes like this: And then the earlier 80s had sets with just roof tiles or windows/doors. While I myself did not had that many of those parts, a friend did, and we built a lot of things with just basic parts, from houses, to railway pillars, to machines where a marble would go through a sloped maze. The current Classic sets don't really have the same feeling. 3-in-1 hasn't done basic larger houses with sloped roofs in a while so roof tiles in bulk via sets aren't as easy to get unless you get multiple smaller sets. Currently there is the Home Alone set which has a lot of parts for a "house" but it's an entirely different category of price set, even far above modulars.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set

I never got any of those horse armors (beside some of those red horse helmets from the 90s, but wasn't collecting LEGO in the 2000s until 2016) so would be nice to get at least one Barding in a big set like this.- 2,976 replies
