Agreed.. Only the driving sprocket is relevant. I'd forgotten about this excellent moc! I love tractors, so i'm bound to love this.. but what i like about the bodywork (mask as its being referred to), is that its technic - not a thousand bricks used to close every gap. 8RX is an excellent concept. (I've been looking at the Claas Axion terra trac... ). Central diff is an option, depends on how faithful to the original you want to be. It doesn't use a central diff, very few tractors do - one exception is the Xerion due to its steering modes.

Mmmm... thats a good point! I'd love to see something clever done with C+ and diff locking... even a manual locker would add whole new function to the model which helps with the price tag. I just don't think we'll see it.. which is a shame. But i'm still excited to see the details of this set. The tow truck looks a great set, this has great potential too. Fingers crossed!

TLG won't release a set with diff locks.. the feature on the diff that makes it possible is there for mocs only. Locking it and then playing with it can smash parts and TLG won't release something that can self destruct. It will never happen, but it keeps coming up on new model releases!!! Its none-subject, for so many obvious reasons.. forget about diff locks...

The tires are a huge bonus to the tractor builders amongst us. I only went 3rd party due to lack of official options.... a very neglected sector! I'm still hoping that one day we'll get a proper flagship tractor. So many form factors and technical functions that are ideal for lego... but what to do we get?! A constant supply of not-very-super-cars... yawn! Anyway, this merc gives us tires at least, and in fairness, doesn't look too bad.. though the price is steep. Hoping for a special Cat bulldozer...🤞

[MOC] Chain-Making Machine
TeamThrifty replied to ord's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well deserved... i've watched the video twice already. Fantastic. -
Never seen one of these before - i love seeing something different! And the model looks brilliant - Love it!!

Ha! Our cv is closer than you think... I am also a software developer (.net - c# desktop mainly ) I ride motorbikes, kawasaki ZXR's mostly.. and these you can fix yourself with spanners. Sometimes its a wiring fault, but with patience you can fix it.. Cars?! I never work on my car.. but i always do all my own work on my bikes. Bikes and Technic lego are more similar than you think from a methodical, logical, mechanical, bolt/pin things together perspective. I like physical bricks and spanners!!!

Digital lego leaves me cold.... i work in i.t. so its not a technical issue, its that for me, if its not physical plastic parts, it doesn't feel like lego. I know its useful when you haven't got a huge parts inventory.. planning the parts to buy or something. And i know some people love it... but i love plastic bricks..!

[MOC] REXX Truck 1:15
TeamThrifty replied to KirTech LAB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Absolutely brilliant!! Wow!! I love this... big moc's really grab my interest, and this is a beauty!! I love it!! -
Yes, that is a valid point.. I think we probably agree on most points. You may prioritise sturdy, i'd love to see more realism, but our ideal goal is the same - realistic AND sturdy!! I'm not a car guy but enjoy looking at mocs, and it does disappoint me on the suspension front. I love building tractors and always try to have realistic geometry on 3-points and steering, and diff locks etc... i want it to act like a mini tractor, rather than just look like one, if that makes sense?
-
I disagree too... most cars posted here have no real effort made in the suspension. Its always the usual liftarms and springs shoved somewhere. Heave springs, anti-roll bars? Very rare. To use part count as an excuse not to even try is very poor.... mainly because there is the odd example of people achieving it beautifully. So much emphasis on gap-less bodywork, but suspension is a proper mechanical challenge and adds to the realism of a moc... a car should be more than just a gearbox and a pretty dress. All aspects should be tackled and included. I can only assume most people put it on the 'too difficult' list and ignore it..
-
Beautiful! Very well done.... 'Super'car builders (and TLG) please take note. Realistic suspension is a beautiful and worthwhile thing - stop being lazy! - its so rare to see suspension of this quality. Lovely to see.

Efferman's Custom Parts
TeamThrifty replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm a fan and user of custom and 3rd party parts where they fill a gap in the standard offering... but this is virtually a full axle 3d printed, feels like its crossed the line from building something from parts (lego). But everyone's 'line' is in a different place! -
Squirming due to slating TLG isn't exclusive to someone just out of college... far from it. There are many seasoned users on the forum who have been very vocal about the design failings. Like anyone who is loud behind a keyboard, they would squirm face to face. Unless. Unless their complaints were structured and constructive because then you can stand by what you said. If however it was a meaningless generalisation.... squirm away!

If you physically apply a load to a beam it flexes less with holes not in the direction of impact, so horizontal holes for vertical load. I think this more to do with the amount of plastic available to resist the bend. With holes in the direction of bend, there's less material. Not sure if the arch contributes, but the amount of plastic certainly does.

It looks too rough for a flagship... someone's moc maybe, but not an official flagship. It feels a bit photoshopy, like the tracks were grey originally. Maybe i'm clutching at straws as when i heard there was 3000+ part bulldozer as the flagship i was really looking forward to it.. this image has rocked my faith!!! For now i'm remaining glass half full and hoping this image isn't correct. The real thing will be excellent!! Please don't let me down tlg!!!
