  1. Mods, perhaps rename this thread to “The great minifig head in modulars debate” As an attempt to bring this back to the thread title, now we have a 50’s streamline diner for 2018, what do we think the the next (2019) modular will be and do we think it’ll be a similar style. Me, I think we’ll get a 1960s brutalist concrete building, perhaps as a twin shop setup.
  2. Ouch. That jars somewhat. Not in my layout. Perhaps next to DO
  3. Thanks for the info. The last time I checked (in the summer) the lowest price for both sides of the PS complete, was nudging £200, which was about $250 -$280 at the time. I’d seen that sort of price for one half the set. Clearly one needs to check regularly.
  4. Slightly off topic here, as this thread is want to do from time to time. for me, AS is my fave build, followed by PR, and DO. BB was better than PC, but that’s because I think the interior of PC was too basic. I don’t have the rest so can’t comment. Too expensive to buy now.
  5. Living just a couple of dozen km from montreux, I see the building that inspired this almost weekly. I have to say you’ve captured the look and feel of the palace hotel, brilliantly. Outstanding work.
  6. Well if it’s a fake, then it’s a good one, rather like the 50s style octane Italian inspired gas station earlier in the thread. I’m not convinced either way. In some ways it shows some inventive SNOT work and design ideas, but in others, like the floor separation not being clear, it really doesn’t hang together right. Perhaps the floor gap is hiding behind the signage? It’s also quite a departure architecturally from the more recent modulars, which are mostly full of angles, rather than curves (tower on AS not withstanding)
  7. I, like you, grew up on 4 wide cars of the late 70s and 80s. I’ve just got back into minifig scale building after the last 2 ½ decades being a technic only builder, and have found the “new” 5 and 6 wide vehicles quite hard to design and build. I’ve ended up buying city sets just to learn techniques and have a parts stash, although I don’t think they fit in well with the Modulars, which is what I build now. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this.
  8. OMG, I’ve just realised why I think the PR doesn’t fit in with the rest of the street I have. (PR, PC, DO, BB, AS), It’s the pitched roof. Non of the others have them. Ok AS has the middle building but stuck in between flat roofs. It lends such a different character. I agree, and a pitched roof building might also take away the American feel I think my street has.
  9. I really hope that it’s not a re-release of an existing building. I only have the last 5, but really want a variety of buildings to expand the modular street. I’d also welcome a growth of modulars into streets, with corners having more street furniture like signs, and signals, perhaps a bit like GBHQ.
  10. That’s a shame snaillad, as AS is a great build, and the finished product is one of the better finished modulars from the last 2 / 3 years.
  11. I do hope it is a fake. It’s just not pretty is it? However, i have seen buildings like this in Italy, with petrol stations below, so it’s not impossible.
  12. Perhaps we’re all getting wires crossed. Maybe the larger non modular building is something like NYC Grand Central Station. Although I personally think Washington DC’s station is more beautiful on the inside, this is a well renowned landmark building. It wouldn’t then be minifig scale, and hence the train wouldn’t have to be full sized. just a thought.
  13. Good and simple mod. Will be scouring my meagre technic supply for the parts to apply this. Failing that, a wee brick link order might just be in order.
  14. So by my ready reckoning 10256 or 10261 is likely a large non modular building, like Big Ben, or Sydney opera house. 10260 is probably the next fairground ride since these tend to cost just a little more than the modular range. 10262 is therefore the modular, and that leaves 10263 as a vehicle like the mini or VW beetle. Have I got that right? Maybe other opinions out there.
  15. Given that this is being heavily discounted across Europe at least, this is quite likely I think. Picked mine up for just 55% of rrp
  16. That’s what we’d all like to know, along with the other creator expert sets, whose numbers have been shown.
  17. I’m not so keen on the post office idea, although since it’s been discussed for years on here and in other places, it’s quite likely at some point in the near future. Given the more recent modulars have been multi business ones, perhaps combo post office and mechanics or store. I MOCed an extreme sports shop with post office on a corner with adventurers upstairs office and appartement and this seemed to fit the footprint of 32 x 32 quite well. Didnt finish it as I’m rubbish at roofing. I’d like the garage idea but it might end up a bit like the city centre set, which is a bit unfulfilling. I think it would need to add a new storyline beyond the wedding, money laundering and the cookie smuggling ring too.
  18. Don’t you just love how all up tight we get when we think we should know something. The lack of a sneaked photo or set number and name sends us all into a right tizz. I’m just the same, but can’t really justify buying much as I’m saving for the GBHQ. It’ll have to wait till whatever it is hits real live shop shelves before I pick it up.
  19. Totally agree. I’ve actually returned the pieces for the “limo” to my parts bins. I’d much rather have a solid build with finished interiors than studded ground floor, and ugly add on items to raise the part count.
  20. Calm down one and all. I’m sure that we’ll get a new modular soon. We just have to assume that TLG has tightened up security. I for one, and hoping for a delayed or even summer release, just to protect my battered pockets.
  21. I stand corrected. I still maintain that excepting the PR, all the more recent ones have a flow to them that make them seem like a city block.
  22. I love this idea. I’d pay it a visit. Just one thing, I’d have the photographers background in bright green, or bright blue, so then you’d get your photo with the scenery from the films. ;-)
  23. I get the impression that a few of the older modulars sit better with PR, than the new ones. I read of a Phase 1of modulars and a phase 2, which the DO, AS, BB, and PC belong to. PR was phase 1 and so more individualised. I can’t tell as I only have the last 5 modulars. Cant wait to see the next one.
  24. Loving this. I quite like the challenge of making a river at street level. I was about to drop my modulars onto a 3 brick high base to achieve a river bridge that worked.
  25. Hi all, So I’ve just finished rebuilding all my modulars after moving home. I never had the space to get the 5 all lined up in one go before and I’ve realised a couple of things doing it. Firstly, although I love the Parisian Restaurant, it really doesn’t look right sitting next to any of the more recent modulars. So much so, that I’m almost tempted to discount it as a modular. It’s smaller in stature, and the style is more house like than any other building. Any thoughts? Secondly, despite meticulous deconstruction and then reconstruction, I’ve found I have some missing parts and some extras. Weirdly, quite a few of the extras are the little things you lose, if you're not careful. The missing bits have tended to be regular parts I could resupply from the parts bins. Although I am missing the top of the palace cinema sign altogether, which is more than a bit odd. The building and demolition took place in a hard wood floored room, and furniture has been thoroughly checked. It’s driven me mad. Has anyone else experienced this strange phenomenon? Any way, it’s nice to have all 5 built together, in some form of street. Considering a GBHQ to add in to the street, with maybe a mod or two, since I can’t wait for the 2018 modular to hit the stores near me. That’ll be the summer realistically.
