I'll try that, but they make it incredibly difficult to get answers to LDD-related questions. This was my backup plan.

Likeness rights and patents are two totally different things, but I take your meaning.

So I've got kind of an unusual question. I'm working on a computer generated film right now—it's really a personal project, but I intend to publish it and possibly sell copies if it does well, so I'm making sure to account and budget for all necessary licensing fees to ensure I don't unwittingly commit any copyright violations—and one scene calls for stuff that looks like it's made out of LEGO. I figure that from a technical standpoint, the easiest way to do this would be to actually build those props out of LEGO in the LEGO Digital Designer and then convert them into Maya objects. My question is, does anyone know if I would need to acquire licensing to use the LDD brick models, or rights for the likenesses of LEGO products, or anything like that from the LEGO Group® in order for this method to be legal?

LDD 4.3.10 Update Released
BrokenEye replied to gedren_y's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Perhaps, but then, perhaps someone might decide to step up and maintain a definitive version that's up-to-date but loyal to the product's original intentions. Considering the current userbase consists mostly of people who'd want it to remain a LEGO program, but with a more complete part list, that doesn't seem terribly unlikely. -
Fantastic!

[KEY TOPIC] LDD custom bricks
BrokenEye replied to Zerobricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Oh, that's a shame. -
The extra long minifig arms (973pb0636c99) and legs (970c99pb01) from that one Toy Story set. Certain characters (Gort, Count Orlok, Cesare the Somnambulist, etc.) just don't look right unless they're taller than everyone else. And would giving capes a less ridiculously oversized hitbox so that they can be worn together with beards, bandannas, and other neckware that doesn't actually obstruct them really be so much to ask for? It's not like LEGO can claim that the idea of a minifig wearing both a cape and another neck piece had simply never occurred to them, because it clearly has. Oh, also capes that are different colors on each side (522pb001). And the opera cape collar (20551) that can be added to the regular cape.

I take it that there's no way of modding in the real versions of missing parts, then? -

Okay, that's what I wanted to know. That's pretty cool. -
LDD 4.3.10 Update Released
BrokenEye replied to gedren_y's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, yeah, no, obviously they aren't the same program. I was just wondering if it was used for the same sort of thing. Which is to say, re-rendering LDD models with better, more impressive graphics than what LDD has to offer so they look more impressive when you wanna show them off. That same general sort of thing. It's that same general sort of thing, right? -

Is that used for the same sort of thing as the POVray converter? I'm sure they'll have an update or something soon. Oh, I thought it was maybe some part of some Gigerian alien hive or something, but that's much more in keeping with Lego's usual character -
Neat, love the semi-organic feel. That's hard to pull off with legos

This is a set I made for LEGO Ideas, but I figured I'd share it here as well. I'm still very new on Eurobricks and this is only the very first MOC that I've posted, so I'm open any tips anyone has to offer about how to format these sorts of posts in the future. The set is based on science fiction classic Forbidden Planet and includes minifigs of all the main characters from the film, including a block-built version of Robbie the Robot, plus the weird unnamed space-car thing that Robbie drove around. I also included a minifig-scale lego version of the film's poster. I tried to make everything as accurate to the film as it was possible to get at that scale, including custom decorations for the uniforms complete with accurate rank insignias. Here's some various angles of the car thing. Sadly, I wasn't able to make it so the front opens like in the film. Here's some of Robbie. Funnily enough, he actually has greater range of articulation than the original Robbie costume/prop did. And here's some closer looks at the poster I designed for it Let me know what you think. If you like it, please take the time to support it on Lego Ideas.

LDD 4.3.10 Update Released
BrokenEye replied to gedren_y's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Got it working on my other computer. Looks like they finally made all the flexible tubes actually capable of being flexed. That's pretty awesome. The piece of string still isn't flexible, though. Most of the neck pieces (excluding capes) now fit correctly too. Anyone know what the heck "Design element 2x6x2.33" (that weird organic-looking tube thing) is supposed to be? -

LDD 4.3.10 Update Released
BrokenEye replied to gedren_y's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hmm... reinstalling didn't fix it. Still no textures. Arms and bodies are still listed as separate parts. The whole shebang. And I downloaded an all new installer file and everything. Help? -
LDD 4.3.10 Update Released
BrokenEye replied to gedren_y's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I didn't know it was going to update! Well, no harm now foul, I suppose. How do I fix all that other stuff? Ne'er ye mind. I'll just reinstall it. I've already got everything backed up anyway. -
LDD 4.3.10 Update Released
BrokenEye replied to gedren_y's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Something must've glitched out when I updated, then. Yeah, definitely glitched. I just checked and my entire Decorations folder is completely empty. Including my custom decorations I made. Damnit, I worked hard on those. Someone please tell me there's a way to get back the old contents of that folder. EDIT: Aha! My computer backed up the folder last week on Monday. All is not lost after all. Praise whomever! Still don't know what went wrong with the update, though. Or how to fix it. -
LDD 4.3.10 Update Released
BrokenEye replied to gedren_y's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The torso, arms, and hands are now five separate parts that you can put together instead of just one that you can only move around. Presumably for greater customizability. You can have a guy with two pirate hooks instead of just one, a guy with one satyr leg and one normal leg (like Krampus or something). Of course, all the minifigures in any saved builds you got are going to fail to load and have to be rebuilt from scratch, which seems like a bit of a weird oversight. Anyone know what's going on with the heads being untexturable? -
LDD 4.3.10 Update Released
BrokenEye replied to gedren_y's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
They completely reworked the minifigure parts system, but still haven't added Hagrid's body or the extra-long arms and legs, and neck-pieces still don't fit properly. Tanj it
