Was just on the customer service site when I noticed this message: Seems the customer service reps have received some sort of additional training. Has anyone attempted to contact them about LDD in the past two days on the off chance that they received new information (or at least new scripts) about the next LDD update?

One of my favorite acronyms that didn't really catch on was SLURP (Sandy Large Ugly Rock Piece), a term someone proposed for the sandy "island" piece from the 2009 Pirates sets. Perhaps it might have caught on if the piece had been used in more than one set.

The main issue I see with that lower armor piece is that it'd be a more complex mold than the majority of CCBS shells due to needing sliders. The only comparable shell I can think of would be the torso shell from Drilldozer, and I think the mold for this would need even more sliders than that due to the way the shell folds inward near the top.

Maybe, but not unprecedented for a Big Bang theme. Ninjago had four retailer exclusives in its first year (Skeleton Bowling, Nuckal's ATV, Ninjago Battle Arena, and Lightning Dragon Battle). Legends of Chima had at least three (Eagle's Castle, Razar's CHI Raider, and Equila's Ultra Striker), and Atlantis had two (Shadow Snapper and Undersea Explorer).

Oh goodness, I hadn't realized that. In that case I don't know if it will even allow for vehicles at all—I don't think you'd be able to get much more than a passenger ferry at that price.

Frankly, I didn't expect LDD to update ON Force Friday in the first place. Lego's web team very likely had their hands full with all the other updates they'd need to implement for the shop, theme pages, etcetera. Updating LDD would probably be fairly low on the list of priorities, and could easily be held off until the start of the next work week on Monday (possibly Tuesday, if that kind of web work is done stateside, since it's Labor Day weekend over here). If Force Friday WAS in fact what Lego was waiting for, I would expect an update within the next week. Otherwise, we probably just were holding out for yet another false hope.

That's a bummer. On the other hand, now that you have the head piece and cape, can we maybe expect to see you MOC your own take on the character? THAT I'd like to see!

Is it possible that it might use the boat hull from this year's Deep Sea Exploration sets? They'd need to build more of a deck onto the back, but otherwise it seems like it'd work for such a purpose...

Fixed that for you. Frankly, I think anyone AFOL who complains about Lego—a children's toy—being "childish" needs to take a good, hard look at what they're doing with their lives.

They could, theoretically. But the question is, would they, and the answer is a resounding "no". Lego/WB wouldn't want to use the EU characters for Dimensions any more than Disney does for Infinity, for the simple reason that those characters are practically irrelevant to the target audience of kids. Kids want to see the characters from the media they love, and in the case of Star Wars, that's the movies and TV series, especially current movies or TV series. There's no substantial interest in characters who have been retconned away, last appeared in books that were published ages ago, and, in many cases, were never even depicted visually outside of cover art. Besides that, it's not just the characters that are important. It's the brand: "STAR WARS". Just by putting that on the package, fans will be driven to choose between Infinity and Dimensions, whereas currently Infinity is the only toys-to-life game that offers any Star Wars content at all, meaning it's their way or the highway. Plus, a vast number of EU characters are only even relevant due to their connections to the main Star Wars canon and characters. How weird would it be to have a character like Mara Jade appear in Dimensions without Luke or any other characters from the Star Wars movies ever even making an appearance?

Should LEGO sponsor a racing team?
Lyichir replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I presume that in the case of the Danish astronaut, the figs would have just taken some of the limited space that otherwise would have been allotted to him for selected personal effects. A few figs wouldn't take up much more space or mass than a locket or framed photo would, and it's not inconceivable that the astronaut in question might forego some other material comfort in favor of a small token of his native country. -
I would assume that it's kind of both? With their current printing machines and production lines, it's very much a technical restriction. Now, presumably Lego could invest to replace all or some of their current fig-printing machinery and production line to allow for the printing of further colors, but I can only imagine that that would be a huge investment that would only make a difference for an extremely small number of figs.

Just a temporary bug. The Lego club website was down earlier as well, but both sites are back up and running. I'm going to hold out hope that Lego has just been holding the update until after Force Friday to avoid any potential leaks of the new Star Wars elements. Not only would that ideally mean that we'd get an update within the next week or two, but it would also probably suggest that said update would include parts from both the winter and summer sets this year. If there's no update by next Monday, I might try sending customer service another email.

A good point. As common as the "Toa Ekimu" theories have been, I haven't seen a single one that had basis in anything other than wishful thinking on the part of the theorist. We can probably assume that the Toa are not going to change in size too dramatically between years despite getting new designs, so we shouldn't necessarily assume that Ekimu would, either.

Can you divulge the source? And do we have any additional context; i.e. are these summer sets, or could we be getting a larger range of sets next year? For what it's worth, the Lego shop method of verification does work for these sets (apart from 71315 since we don't know the set name). So these are the real deal, but I'd still like to know more if at all possible.

I kind of want it... but I also really want the pink Yarn Yoshi amiibo considering that Pink Yoshi has been my main in Smash since Melee. If the big one came in pink, there'd be no question about that being the one I'd want. I recently pre-ordered the Splatoon amiibo 3-pack, which will be the first set of amiibo I've owned. I've been enjoying Splatoon a lot and would not mind extending my gameplay experience with the amiibo content, and from what I've seen the quality of the Splatoon amiibo seems higher than some of the others.

That's probably no more of an issue than it ever has been. Given the length of time the Tower Bridge has been in production, there have already been multiple production cycles for it, which themselves included mold variations such as multiple varieties of jumper plate despite the box itself remaining the same. That said, the part count for the new set DOES differ from that of the classic set, which makes me wonder what was added. None of the part designs of the classic set have changed in such a way that they would necessitate a larger part count, so I would speculate that more parts may have been added to the interior for stability.

About paying homages and chinese third party minifigures
Lyichir replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Community
I don't judge other people for buying knockoffs (since everyone's circumstances are different), but I personally wouldn't buy a knockoff fig even if it were seemingly the only way to obtain it. After all, there's no shortage of customizers who would gladly take commissions for such figures, and I would much rather support small-scale fan labor rather than a large-scale operation that bases its entire business model on intellectual property theft. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Lyichir replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Just because two parts aren't technically attached to one another in LDD doesn't make it an "illegal" build. ANY construction made of parts sliding across tiled parts will generally need to be scaffolded into place on LDD, simply by virtue of it not technically being "attached" to other parts of the model. I don't see how this could be fixed on LDD without making a mess of things (with parts trying to "attach" to tiles in various positions even if you're trying to attach them to nearby studs), or why it needs to be fixed (since temporarily replacing one of the tiles with a plate is generally a simple and effective solution, and in cases where that wouldn't work neither would any automatic attachment methods). -
The difference is that the other weapons, even those that were gifted or otherwise easily obtained, were at least implied to be one-of-a-kind. There were four elemental blades, four Techno-blades, etc. On the other hand, there were at least 15 Jade Blades, and there was no hard limit established on the Aeroblades (which were not even shown to be that rare or hard to acquire). Also, in both cases the "collectible" varieties found in the sets were more or less irrelevant in the show—all the Jade Blades were portrayed as identical, unlike the variety of weapon types in the sets, and likewise the color-coded Aeroblades in the summer sets were turned into interchangeable and identical weapons in the show. All I'm saying is that it sure would be nice to have collectible weapons in future sets be treated as distinct and important items in the show, instead of just being made identical and interchangeable.
-
To be honest, the Aeroblades weren't that much more significant... I was a little amused how the "collectible" Aeroblades in the sets were basically just gifted to the Ninja in bulk in the story, instead of them having to track them down or anything like that.

Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
Lyichir replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Yeah, that's really the distinction I was getting. I recognize that she's a distinct character, but when it comes down to a single wave of sets, Lego is going to want more variety, not less. I imagine Lego has more to gain by providing a wide range of different characters at once instead of two of those sets essentially being recolors of one another. -
Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
Lyichir replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I would consider the identical helmet and existing recolors to be a point against her, if anything. Considering each release wave will presumably feature approximately six sets, Lego is going to want as many of those to be as unique and special as possible. She might appear in a subsequent wave, if anything, but if a white Stormtrooper and a shiny silver Stormtrooper are released in the same wave, they're only going to cannibalize one another's sales. -
I don't see how that would be necessary. There's not really much "decay" evident in the Skull Villain weapons—they're actually quite elegant, all things considered. Of course, considering that, I would not mind the reuse of those parts one bit if they could be used in a unique and original manner. Perhaps even recolored? Who knows?

Not really? Ultra Agents is unlikely to be the last such theme, and in fact Nexo Knights sounds like it may well be another theme in the same vein. For fans of Ultra Agents specifically, its discontinuation is a major bummer, but for fans of unlicensed action/adventure themes this is hardly the end.
