  1. Personally, I wish topics about media properties connected to action themes (such as the Ninjago or Chima TV series) could reside here in the action theme subforum. I'm not suggesting they be merged into the main topics for those themes, but rather that the "official topics" for discussion of those shows be moved here in addition to the main set discussion topics. It just doesn't make sense to me that they're relegated to a forum that contains discussion of all media, whether Lego-related or not. Also, I think that having those topics in this subforum would make people who come here to discuss those themes more aware of them, which in turn would keep the show discussion from bleeding over into the sets topics as often. I think a lot of times, show discussion ends up in the sets topics because people aren't aware of or don't visit the culture and multimedia subforum. Having both types of topic readily available in the action themes subforum would make it so that we'd need fewer reminders that show discussion takes place in a completely different corner of the site.
  2. No. We might see some at some point (for instance, if there's another System theme with Skeleton baddies), but currently Silver Metallic is the only color they come in.
  3. Perhaps the five sets are ONLY Airjitzu, and the rest of the range will be released in March or something?
  4. We've already tried... the symbols aren't the same. Either the Mask of Creation's symbols mean something else (numbers perhaps?) or they're meaningless.
  5. That's it, it's not going to get any better from here on out. Everyone else can go home. I normally don't list mass-market masks among my rarities either, but I figured I'd list them since everyone else was doing it. Plus, I can count my actual rare masks on one hand—it's a fraction of the size of this list.
  6. Hey, that's not a bad idea. Longtime builders would end up with a veritable rainbow of separators. But I imagine the reason Lego sticks to just orange these days is that, generally speaking, it's one of the most vibrant and recognizable colors. My house is not that organized, so it helps to find brick separators with just a glance when the need presents itself.
  7. The other day I needed to find a single tiny part in an unsorted box. If you've exhausted all other options, here's a handy tip—get another, same-sized box, and gradually move the parts you AREN'T looking for from one box to the other. It can be tedious, but if you know exactly what parts you're looking for this technique will help you narrow the contents of the box down to just those without worrying about accidentally burying them deeper in unneeded parts.
  8. I don't have a picture, unfortunately. Imagine the 2003 Makuta if his mask had matched his gunmetal armor. That's this mask.
  9. I built this guy the other day, and was really happy with him. His color scheme, as far as I'm concerned, is flawless—he's an amazing jellybean soldier and looks good enough to eat. And he's a lot better at supporting the weight of his own arms and weapons than the Scorpio/Grinder combi model (despite not even using all six of the available friction joints). His build is wonderfully complex, he's got an impressive amount of bulk... I really can't complain.
  10. At this point I'm expecting it may be August or later by the time we get an update. Hopefully, that will mean it'll include parts from both this past winter's sets and the summer sets, though there's really no telling. Have I mentioned before how much I wish there were an LDD team blog or something that could at least keep us posted on what kind of timeframe to expect, and possibly explain the reasons for delays?
  11. I don't normally list as many masks as this (I usually omit ones that come in regular sets), but since everyone else is doing it, I'm gonna go for it. Combined, my brother and I have: A bunch of gold and silver Toa masks (not sure if either collection is complete) A couple of silver Kanohi Nuva (DEFINITELY not a complete collection) Two infected Hau One chrome Hau A bunch of copper Huna Two prototype Bohrok faceplates (not masks, but still rare) One or two gold Avohkii One or two sparkly Avohkii Two silver Avohkii One prototype Reddish Gold Avohkii Two black Kraakhan (one old version from 2003 Makuta, one newer version from Icarax) One Sand Yellow Metallic (old gold) Kraakhan One prototype Dark Gray Metallic Kraakhan Two gold Vahi Two Ultimate Dume Kraakhan (great for MOCing) One gold Kualsi One silver Pehkui/Kiril One silver Ignika One gold Ignika One "Glatorian helmet" Ignika (not that special, but listing for the heck of it) One gold "Stars" Hau Two gold Masks of Fire Three transparent orange Masks of Fire Three transparent Masks of Fire (two in Lego Store Event packaging) Two gold Masks of Ice One blended Mask of Ice Three gold Masks of Water Two transparent blue Masks of Water One gold Mask of Air One blended Mask of Air One gold Mask of Earth One blended Mask of Earth Two gold Masks of Stone One blended Mask of Stone One Mask of Creation One gold Skull Spider mask One transparent neon green Bull Skull Mask (ordered, has not yet arrived) I think that's just about everything anyone might consider noteworthy. I've left out masks from sets my little brother technically owns (like the silver and gunmetal Vezon helmets), since he's not always as forthright about sharing his collection as the two of us are.
  12. The next size up is usually more versatile, but I figure these sets only used the one size for the same reason the Toa do—considering they use their own gearboxes and function elements, the wider shoulder joints of the larger torso beam tend to just get in the way. Cool thing about the skeleton bones and silver torso beam: It's now technically possible to make a basic humanoid figure entirely in silver. I really like the way Silver Metallic is starting to come into its own as a neutral color.
  13. Looking at that picture again... even in the FUTURE Kai doesn't have the scar that's been part of his fig design since day one. That's kind of a disappointment.
  14. If you go to Billund, the birthplace of Lego, you'd be remiss not to pick up any as souvenirs—particularly since there are sets that you can get there that you can't get anywhere else. Firstly, the set of the under-construction Lego House is available from most shops in town (and the Legoland Hotel, though when I went earlier in the year they were fresh out). Secondly, if you're departing by plane, the departure gate of the Billund Airport is the ONLY location in the world where you can buy the Billund Airport set, and there's a limit of three per ticketed passenger. I made sure to pick up multiples of each on my trip—they're pretty classy as display models and are likely to accrue in value over time to boot!
  15. They've got a slightly different surface finish than the Toa masks, but I wouldn't really call it "rough"... just less glossy. The finish is significantly less rough than what you find on standard System slopes.
  16. Well, good luck, anyway! I would have expected more attendees to have parted with their masks by now, given Bionicle's niche appeal, but it seems like most people are holding onto them. But maybe the next time one becomes available you could nab it!
  17. Did one sell on Bricklink? I was only aware of the one that was sold on eBay. How much did the Bricklink one go for? I'm pretty sure I know who bought the one on eBay, but there's no way I'm sharing who it is. I already know firsthand what it's like to be badgered about selling that mask, and they certainly wouldn't have paid the price they paid for it if they didn't intend to keep and cherish it.
  18. Again, when has this become about "only" using CCBS parts? The vast majority of larger CCBS models Technic parts in conjunction with CCBS parts. The point of CCBS isn't to be used to the exclusion of all else, but rather to create a much more reliable foundation for constraction building (as opposed to the classic Bionicle parts, which lacked that sort of organized system and as a result cycled through new parts at an unsustainable pace).
  19. That... plus the fact that Lego is an expensive hobby. Even for Lego fans who have no intention of ever letting go of their collections, buying an extra set here and there to sell years down the line can help to offset the cost of future purchases. Of course, no telling whether or not these constraction sets will accumulate in value the way other Star Wars sets tend to.
  20. Having recently obtained the set, I don't think it could make much use of an extra $5. Skull Scorpio definitely isn't lacking as far as size is concerned (particularly since he's up against Pohatu, the smallest Toa), and added bulk could take away from his skeletal appearance. I've seen suggestions to make his legs poseable, but most of the solutions I've seen tend to make them blend in with his "arms" and with each other, making it much more difficult to distinguish his eight bony limbs. Visually, his tail is the part that could use the most improvement, but I haven't found any way to make it look better without sacrificing his fantastically effective function. It's not like he's perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but his drawbacks can't really be solved by throwing parts at the problem, and most solutions I've seen to them constitute a trade-off for entirely different issues. I'm more willing to just accept him as the quirky-yet-flawed set he is. EDIT: I also forgot to mention one observation I'd had about the set. I had previously thought Skull Scorpio would look better with some sort of mandibles, attached similarly to the horns on Skull Basher or Skull Grinder. But having the set in hand, it occurred to me why he doesn't—such adornments would prevent him from wearing the Mask of Stone that comes in the set. While it's unclear whether these villains will actually wear the Toa masks after stealing them, it makes sense from a play perspective for each of them to be able to wear both masks that come packaged with them. The only "bonus masks" that allow for head connections are the Mask of Earth and Mask of Creation, hence why Skull Basher and Grinder are alone in having horns.
  21. Maybe he's firing knucklebones? I don't think Trans. Light Blue or Trans. Fl. Reddish Orange would work that well—the former would just blend into the launcher (which works decently for Ekimu's hammer, but not so much for a bow) while the latter might call to mind fire rather than ice or non-elemental energy. Silver Metallic could possibly work (and is indeed a color that exists for the part), but it's possible Lego wanted to avoid a color like that due to being too similar to actual physical bullets.
  22. Based on Kuffs' name and color scheme, I think we can assume that his tribe is police-themed. But discussion of those Mixels really belongs in the 2016 topic.
  23. Good point. Now that most sets seem to feature ninja with both hoods and hair, there's very little excuse for why the ninja can't have double-sided heads with multiple expressions. Even Chima did that, despite the eyes being the only part of the face visible from behind the animal headpieces!
  24. While I'd agree that more single-color transparent masks would be luscious from a MOCist's perspective, I think the blended masks in the Skull Villains do a better job of getting the point across that those are in fact the golden masks after being drained or corrupted by the Skull Villains. If they had lacked gold entirely, that story connection would be lost—for instance, a Trans. Br. Bl. Violet Onua mask would have less in common with Onua's golden mask than it did with his standard black mask, while a Trans. Fl. Green Pohatu mask would not look much like it had a connection to either of Pohatu's masks. As for the fully transparent promotional masks, those most likely have no story connection at all. And all the better for it—not only does that make them more novel for MOCs, it keeps canonically-important masks from being unavailable in sets in the first place. If blended Tahu and Gali masks ever appear, I think they'd be better off appearing in a DK guidebook or similar promotion, where they'd be easily available for fans of the story.
  25. Very neat! It really shows how great the new armor parts can be even on a much bulkier build. Love the use of the Chima spider legs, as well.
