Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
brimbolet replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Oh, we're getting a police boat too I see... The shopping street is the only My City set that I really like. Simple concept aimed at kids, nice details (has there been a cargo bicycle before) and well proportioned and designed cars. But the price... no comment. -
I think the bookshop had finer details than this set, e.g. flat furniture, the bird's nest on the birch tree, terrarium with chameleon... Here it seems that the stairs take most of the police station's inside, instead of a cool looking office, and outside a (1950's) police car is really missing, which is quite a shame. The fabulous cookie store is in my eyes too narrow, but since I'm always modifying my modulars so they have open backs (similar to the Diagon Alley), I'll change that too. A must buy, but I'll wait for the upcoming Ninjago Gardens first.

Has there ever been a picture of modular in a (retailer) catalogue? Didn't know modulars are sold outside Lego's own brand store. -

I assume the black cloth is laid directly on the rumored modular in the video? If so the building seems to be one floor taller than the corner garage, don't you think? -

Most sets are without charm, the vehicles/buildings are oddly proportioned and became suddenly really blocky. I don't get it, just a few years back City was much, much better. Only minor details like the guide dog or the kid in the wheelchair have a nice touch. Hopefully the summer wave will include some unexpected gems... -

Personally, I don't think so... the upcoming Chinese seasonal https://brickset.com/sets/80107-1/Spring-Lantern-Festival has the traditional baseplates and the new roads will be City only I guess. -
PRESS RELEASE: 10276 – LEGO® Colosseum
brimbolet replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The building materials for the Amphitheater were Roman concrete, yellow tuff and travertine stone, in various shades of color, so I don't think that tan bricks are such a terrible choice after all - though certainly not spot on. I'm more surprised that Lego actually chose the Colosseum for their biggest set at all. It was a masterpiece of Roman engineering for sure, the ancestor of all our modern stadiums (with a rather grim history) and is a great tourist icon, but as a ruin it doesn't fit into the Architecture theme somehow. The Roman Pantheon or Palladio's Villa Rotonda, both with their huge influence on architecture for the following centuries, would have been a much better choice in my eyes. -

I wonder why the lab idea includes elements from City only, and not from other successful indoor themes like Ninjago, Friends or (wishful thinking) Pirates/Castle. -
I think the changes will be significant, especially in terms of color. But that's not bothering me at all... I'm just happy to get any medieval set at all!

Personally, I think the roof is the most important and often neglected element that draws the line between a building and a facade. Without it you have no enclosed space, even if the interior is 8 studs wide. 4-5 studs depth + roof are good enough to play and to have a decent street landscape. -

according to https://info.lego-lab.com/ it's Denmark only for now and the price is 649 DKK, so roughly 85$/€... nice idea perhaps, but far too expensive to be successful -

But where is the improvement? Sure, the old road baseplates had a fixed and unchangeable 32x32 grid - but it was compatible with the standard green/blue... plates. Now you can make the roads shorter or longer (+), but you don't get curves as far as I can make out (-); e.g. no Speed Champions race circuit for the kids to build. And the few added trees or roadsigns don't justify the change in my opinion - a 10$/10€ non-exclusive tree set is long overdue anyhow. I suspect the old road system wasn't popular, because the were no houses/farms/harbors... in City anymore. No buildings, no need for baseplates - just simple as that, regardless of shape, color or system. If Lego doesn't change something the new modular roads will fail... Maybe they will surprise us, who knows, but for now I'm not impressed. -

"the new modular system promotes the selling of cool City sets" Well, the German text says it all... I still don't think that kids' happiness was the starting point for this new product line. Judging from the pictures the new system (parts are used for the HP classroom books too I believe) is even worse than expected, since the final road isn't smooth (!) and leaves us with a huge amount of unbuilt areas in between - like in a Swiss cheese. Additionally it's now higher than the surrounding area (e.g. "park" in 6092 City Centre) and there are no sidewalks for pedestrians. The inhabitants of 60291 Family home must love it though, since they live on a parking plot and have practically no garden at all... However the other sets are much better! I do like especially the jet plane transport. -
more small Ninjago scenery revealed... maybe 4+ (?)

I really hope the prices are correct; the ships are spot on and I honestly cannot see much difference... -
Two catamarans without the figures have leaked, and the colors are great

Don't know if it's the right place to ask, but are there some news on the retro car from the ideas contest? Will it be a gift this or the following year? -

Honestly, I don't understand the idea behind the whole system change (higher profit excluded), unless Lego would bring us a a lot of new buildings that are in need of a road connection, like gas stations, garages etc. And somehow I think that's just wishful thinking on my part... -

My only complaint so far is the lacking of a cement mixer... again. However the old road plates will apparently be kept, that is a huge relief! -

Here is the link: https://www.promobricks.de/lego-city-strassenbauplatten-2021/ According to them the new (higher) road plates won't fit with the modular line... has anybody more info on this? Sounds terrible! -
So cool... and instantly recognizable! But don't let the Germans know...

I'm still searching for this polybag, alas without luck... Thank you for the comparison with the old stingray. Didn't realize the difference in shape until now.

I'm not a HP fan so I can't judge how the set compares to the original, but the street looks fantastic and with great playability. A Western or Castle themed set would have been a dream come true...
