The Plan (best hopes) Match an elegant locomotive as much as possible Smooth run at decent speed The Initial design The idea is to create a pneumatic engine directly driving the locomotive's wheels. The engine receives power from a pneumatic compressor and can be supported by a fly wheel function to support smoother run. Other functions such as opening doors can also be implemented. Progress My target is to first accomplish the main function, getting the locomotive to run. when it starts moving I then have to try to make the run smoother. Finally, if time allows and if my parts are enough, I may try to add some extra functions. For now I built an initial structure and started the struggle to have the engine move when pumped.

    If you want to make your first nice RC car I advice you to get the 42037 (before it retires) and try to motorize it with one L (or XL but L takes less space) and one Servo motors. You will enjoy and learn a lot.

    One of the most famous rare parts is hailfire droid wheel/geer. Comes only in set 4481 and the part sells for the price of a medium size set.

    As you said 90 are track links, so you still have 260 extra. 42042 has the L motor, small LA, big turntable vs M motor, big rotor blades,small turntable in 42052. So I guess 42042 is way better for MOCs. The big number of blue beams is also advantageous. Also note that with 42052 you get a lot of white color, which may need more frequent cleaning, especially if used by many people, and white LEGO is known to yellow on long term. Perhaps you may accommodate the 42042 with a small set with some good wheels or few wheels from Bricklink. I suggest the wheels/tires of 42008 as they are used for many purposes.

    I wanted to suggest this to the admins before. I occasionally find nice C models hidden deep in the forum while doing an unrelated search. Just one note: I think as the entries number grow fast there won't be room to put details and pictures for each model, perhaps its best to use a row per entry linking to the model page. Just like the main index.

    I would go for 42043: less cost, more parts, a different set to work on, PneumaticsV2, L motor, and more part variety. This is of course unless I know that the attachments I'm intending to build require parts found only in Unimog.

    Work with what u've got so far (which is a lot) and wait until after Summer and get a BWE for some deal.

    With a tablet zooming may be more intuitive but bigger screen always win. I recently built 42029 B model using the hall's 37" TV and it was pleasant. To follow up your build between sessions, just record your page on Google Keep or anywhere convenient to take notes.

    The price would become too high. IMO 42055 is meant for modding in such a way or another for those interested.

    From all this discussion one would conclude that part 32184 needs investigation. I notice that there is almost absence of complaints about axle holes from these parts: and only one complaint from this: If the case is that these are much less prone to the crack issue, I think TLG should know how to take it from here.

    Town AFOLs find Technic incomprehensibly complex, I knew that from several people. Parents with young children have no interest in Technic since its not (and doesn't look) for that age group. Parents with older children simply don't look at Technic because older children need no guidance to their favorite toys. This leaves us with ourselves (Technic AFOLs) and I don't think we are a large segment among people visiting LEGO fairs. So drawing interest would rely on cool (non too technical) looks and action. I think GBCs are a perfect formula. BTT: What is latest known on 42051 if any?

    Ready to build 42029. First the B model, keep it few days, and then go for the bigger more important A model which may stay displayed much longer.
