Basic MOC techniques
Samer replied to MrAwesome's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm only a little ahead of you and I agree with the above comments in addition to this: put yourself a moderate challenge and tackle it. Find solutions to each partial problem by searching on YouTube. About buying sets chose one from the last 2 years in order to have good price. I advice U start with 42029 and 42030. The former teaches you car mechanisms and the later is a big experience without lots of complications and gets you all powerfunctions motors. Later next year try to catch 42043 and 42042 on a cool discount. I started with 42008 and I felt its too complicated for a beginner trying to understand how to think when designing. But I like it very much anyway as its a rich set in parts and functions. -
Your Best Technic Bargains

Perhaps some of us noticed the new launch of rebrickable.com android app. This is very interesting to many of us, but my concern is why they need the 2 requested permissions on the device: 1- Wifi connection information 2- Camera access This doesn't make sense to me as working with rebrickable shouldn't necessitate this. I liked to see what others may think/know about that.

[TC9] Golf kart/Hot rod
Samer replied to veryhappy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very interesting, with apparant a lot of room for imporvement for the period of the contest, especially for the hotrod as discussed above -
Thank you. So you mean something like 75094 is a Model-team and not allowed despite it has a lot of Technic parts. TC8 #16 entry belongs to that as well if I interpreted correctly?

If my model is bound to a center, can I convert the rectangular limits to spherical coordinates? just a joke... come on guys, Be merciful to the admins and take it easy, IMHO the rules are simple, interesting, and form a very cool challenge, which LEGO and creativity is all about. Too detailed questions, too many sub-rules and its going to become stressing for admins to judge at the end (IMHO). Ok, back to topic, I tried to read all the thread, but didn't find explanation of "Model Team" which is a restriction in the rules. Can someone forgive my ignorance and tell me what that is and how it relates to studded LEGO?

Generic Contest Discussion
Samer replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very interesting setup. I like the volume limit, it implies both weight and piece limits. Excluding pf is also cool, show us your mechanism and shape creativity, especially with the model B challenge. I'm in! And it's my 1st! So not that I'm winning, sure not, but its going to be joyful. When is that scheduled? Just a suggestion captain Jim: I think it may be useful to illustrate the volume limit in a graphic (of 2 different objects) within the description. -
Guys, IMHO moderators are only people. This means they have their own emotional life that may affect their behavior sometimes as anyone else. This is especially true given the pressure they face managing these forums with hundreds of new people joining daily. They have no choice but to stay in control or the forums would become a mess with a lot of nonsense. They can do mistakes and can over-act sometimes. For us users, its best not to take matters further than that its LEGO world, hence, its only for joy and fun. So just take things with ease. If you feel upset with some moderator's (or anyone's) action, just skip and enjoy reading and interacting with the next post. When you post something interesting to others, you'll be wowed by all including the moderator who you thought being rude. At the end the moderator is not a boss that will cut your payslip. He's rather a sincere human devoting his time and effort for free (as far as I understand ) to keep this LEGO park joyful for all of us. Coincidentally, and this is what made me write this after looking at this topic, in my theme yesterday the moderator over-reacted to one guy who saw a post and replied without noticing the subsequent "off-topic" moderation. I was waiting to see the guy's reaction and expected a sort of fight. However, the guy just asked the moderator to take it easy and explained that he didn't see the moderation and ended with the phrase "my bad". In the same post the guy just quoted another post and continued as normal. Plain and simple. So IMHO we better just skip negative feeling and exercise emotional control with them, especially when we are online, and especially when it comes to LEGO. Last not least I'd like to present my respect to the ROOT Admin for his active enrollment and positive response to people who complained here, which says all about the nature of people managing this place. Cheers everybody, now on to my WIP

Lamborghini is my favorite super car and this model represents it so well. Maybe a silver engine would look also great. Additionally, the body reminds me of the Panel vs liftarm debate. I don't intend to revive the debate here, but this model is another example that liftarms are the shaping basis and panels are great to fill gaps, add curves, ..etc. but not for building the whole body using them. I like very much how panels are used as dashboard in this model for instance. Just my perspective which may not be accurate for sure.
