LEGO Ideas Discussion
Man with beard replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Looks very cool to me! One thing in favor of this design is that I don't think I've ever seen Lego do a proper log cabin... y'know, one where the logs run horizontally instead of vertically . And a hut with chicken feet is just fun, even for people who might not be familiar with Baba Yaga. Also, seeing this reminded me of how much I wanted Lego fairy tale sets and minifigs as a kid, which I had completely forgotten. -
Well-gunned and well-manned, as a pirate frigate should be! Are there plans for a physical build of this creation?

I really the design of this! Quite a different kind of building than an American post office. Just looking at it for a bit made me really want to visit the United Kingdom when it is safe to do so. Also, I'm impressed by your very reasonable piece count. I'm sure that was on your mind designing for Ideas.

[ESL-FB] New Settlers Bring Growth to Interlagos
Man with beard replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I really like this! It's great to see the classic windows and shutters being used on modern MOCs. Is there a word for that roofline on the red building? Or a particular inspiration for it?- 9 replies

I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan, so I dig that crime scene build! Is there a back-story? Like a reason that Sherlock is up on the wall?

This is a wonderful creation CastleLord! I find it very immersive to look at. The farms near the fortress remind me of similar scenes depicted in the Trés Riches Heures. I also appreciate the classic Lego aesthetic with the studded topography and the classic flowers.

Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
Man with beard replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I definitely agree it was a bad decision. It makes the licensed themes (a huge portion of Lego's product range) incompatible with the rest of the Lego universe, which just isn't Lego-like! I doubt that the problem will be solved anytime soon though, as for Lego to fix it they would have to admit that yellow is and has always been more representative of white skin than other skin colors... -
Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
Man with beard replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
They can't be consistently entirely dumb and also consistently very profitable. The Lego Group exists to make money, and they're clearly doing a lot of smart things because they are making a lot of money. I definitely agree about the quality control though. The company motto is "only the best is good enough", and if they can't deliver the best, maybe they are losing their way. -
[WIP] "The Parrot" a small mercantile Vessel
Man with beard replied to CaptainPolluxofOrion's topic in Pirate MOCs
Personally, I like red white and blue. Looks very "Lego" to me, and it would stand out from all the brown that we typically see in Pirates theme stuff (and I just like colorful stuff in general). But whatever colors you go with, I'm looking to seeing a physical build of this! 1600's ships are very cool, and I like your build.- 31 replies

Nice review, Pchan! I liked that it showed the details and your thoughts about the set in a very concise format. I would suggest trying shooting with a tripod if you are interested in taking your video production quality to the next level. I like that Lego is doing a lot more detailed and fun domestic play-sets than they did when I was a kid. This kind of set is great for young and old, boys and girls, which I think is really cool.

Lego Ideas 90th Anniversary Fan Vote
Man with beard replied to Calanon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
@Stuartn, it's worth noting that a third of Bionicle fans didn't vote for any of the System themes though. I'm definitely in agreement with you that non-BionicleFOLs need to stop hating on Bionicle, but the Bionicle fans don't exactly share our love for System stuff either. It is a bit odd that Bionicle is still so polarizing (I don't own any Bionicle, but I think it's cool); however, this article by David C. Robertson says that Bionicle was created specifically to reach a demographic of boys who were not interested Lego's available products. Internally, they called this kind of boy "Bully Bob". I think Lego System and Lego Bionicle just appeal to different kinds of people, and that was the intent of Bionicle's designers! I voted for Forestmen, Imperials, and Adventurers. -
[MOC] The Black Dragon, Svart Dyr
Man with beard replied to Louis of Nutwood's topic in Guilds of Historica
Really nicely built and composed. The fact that you gave a very fierce Lego dragon a nice plump tummy just makes me happy when I look at it. -
Thank you for doing this, EamonnMR! You are not the only one who spent many hours reading Lego catalogs as a kid :) For a lot of kids, the pictures of the Lego products they saw in catalogs sparked as many imaginative fantasies as the sets they actually owned. Lego catalogs had a big impact on a lot of people and are definitely worth preserving. Modern Lego catalogs that I have seen don't have the little blurbs that explain the sets, so I wonder whether today's kids are as interested in them. Also, I love that Exploriens artwork and photography from 1996.

I used to play a few years back, but I much prefer the Cizilization games by Sid Meier.
