  1. Frankly I find their building block catalogue hilarious... car car car car gun car car car car car
  2. @LordOfHatred Technic is a theme that swings the pendulum the other way to provide something for those more interested in play via mechanical engineering than solely eye candy. I’m the type of guy to take fully functioning suspension, a gearbox, steering, etc over a pretty model any day of the week. Because it’s a marketable product, it can’t be too expensive or else it won’t be bought, so a line has to be drawn somewhere for functional yet aesthetic sets. In any case, way to make your first impressions by bumping a decade old abandoned thread.
  3. It’s worth pointing out that using tolerances to aid with mechanisms is allowed by Lego, since 42101’s steering should technically be impossible, as is almost every example of torque tube suspension seen in official sets.
  4. Looking good so far. Bit of a curveball question but is your username a typo of ligma?
  5. It works without stressing the parts, so I’d argue that yes it’s legal. I mean, it’s literally not half baked. It’s a strong and stiff connection. If you’re gonna throw the book at OP then you should have some proof that it’s an illegal connection.
  6. It’s a high friction fit and it works. I’ve tried stuff like this before.
  7. Nah there wasn't any, I was just pulling his leg for not posting pics
  8. Yeah Lego always seem to follow this weird design choice whenever they use torque tubes. It was the same in 9398, 42005 and 42038. Always stressing those 6L links and relying on mechanical tolerances and material compliance to let the suspension function. The only time they didn't do it was with 8110 when they first introduced them. In any case, I think it should be easy enough to fix with minimal pieces, and it's definitely the first thing I'm gonna try to do. It's always nice to see solid axle suspension in a Technic set, since it seems so rare nowadays. The last time we got solid axles was in 42069.
  9. Has anyone experienced the gearbox tightening up over time? I've had it sitting on a closed off shelf for a few months now, and the gearbox has somehow tightened itself to the point that it'll only run without clicking in 1st LO. I've only ever had the same experience with two sets before - 42009 and 42043. In 42009, the outrigger gearbox began to sieze up over time, and in 42043 the crane began to lose its slewing capability. I'm hardly surprised these phenomena pass through unnoticed in the design phase, since they take months to onset.
  10. 42110's wheel wells are designed with the inset hubs in mind though, I'm pretty sure. So portal axles would push the wheels out and possibly cause them to rub against the wheel wells when turning.
  11. It’s a toy, get over it. Technic has inherent limitations and they need to design sets for kids to be able to play with. At least this has proper suspension and a working engine unlike the Mustang.
  12. Dunno how well the lack of appropriately sized LAs would do, but maybe also a front loader? Another idea would be a road grader, if we keep to construction equipment
  13. I know it's a bit repetitive, but I'd be keen to see a 6-wheel mobile crane :D
  14. I’m currently trying to source it for under $30AUD. So far I’ve seen one for $40 but I wanna go even lower
  15. Jesus I know right. The ballsocket frames are my number one most coveted pieces, right above the old soft springs from 42007 and 42036, along with the weird twisted L-beam connector from 42006.
  16. Why didn’t you just wait? TLC have their reasons for closing B&P at the moment
  17. It’s really simple - a BARC Speeder and AT-RT use smaller pieces on average than an AAT would. $/pc is a shitty metric for value, it’s too inconsistent.
  18. Guys, minifigs are not difficult to scale walkers for... the main dimension of each is their height. This AT-RT is just flat out scaled incorrectly. I don’t see any reason anyone would scale by a minifig’s width over its height.
  19. In any case, it’ll be hella cool to try mod it into a battlecar
  20. I didn’t much care about having a 501st battle pack to begin with, so I’m gonna steam roll ahead with my opinions. I’m almost never a fan of Lego’s AT-RTs for being so huge, and this time is definitely no exception. They’ve gotta find a way to make more appropriately scaled ones, because the current size is crazy. I don’t really have anything to say about the speeder, they’re not my thing. The Clones are nice, but man it’s weird to see them without blue arms. They should’ve at least printed blue shoulders or something, because I don’t think I remember ever seeing generic 501sts with white shoulders. From memory people wanted a 501st battle pack, not a 501st set. It seems like a bit of a double edged sword to be honest. Sure let’s make you the figs you want, but you need to bog up your collection with these two huge vehicles. If I was part of the group that wanted this, I’d feel a bit miffed that to get these four troopers that I wanted I’d have to also get these huge filler vehicles that I don’t much care about. That being said the $45AUD price seems okay enough. Assuming each fig is worth $5, that’s $25 left for both vehicles AND the B1s, which seems fair. Despite my criticisms, it’s a nice army builder and parts pack.
