42122 Jeep Wrangler

Bit of a shame there's no engine. Thoughts on whether a small one could've fit in that ~3L gap between the axle and the hood? -

Called it! -
@Lasse D That's not a fair comparison image; the perspectives are completely different. Not only does the real photo have almost no perspective, but it's also taken slightly from behind the car. The set photo is side-on, and has perspective. You can't do a comparison of the two. That being said, I totally agree with you though that the wheels are too big for the body, and the arches contribute to the look. That being said, no other wheel size would do well, and I'm staunchly against TLG making yet another wheel size.

I think it might just be 8T gears If it were pulley wheels then unless they were some new one with a cross axle hole, the 3L with stop would just fall out. I swear I can see some DBG teeth in the photo. I'm not so sure about that. In the photo you can clearly see that there's no 16T gears on top at the front - you can see straight through to the beams on the other side for both tracks, something you wouldn't be able to do if there was a second 16T gear. Again, I think it's an 8T gear on top, even if it doesn't properly mesh with the tracks. -

I know the piece, but no those are definitely bushings. Bushings have the thin neck down the middle, whereas the 4x1 doesn’t -

Unfortunately. It'd be nice if more of the 1:8 sets followed the way T-Lego does it, with a clear defined chassis first, and bodywork afterwards. Without the bodywork the Sian's just kinda shapeless and square. Perhaps Uwe didn't get access to see the chassis, but I'd like stuff like this to change. After builing T-Lego's Centenario, building a clear defined chassis first felt amazing -
I dunno if it's too much effort for you, but you could try set up building instructions of sorts for yourself by recording yourself dismantling it bit by bit and playing it in reverse, or taking photos of bits you pull off. Oh man, if you're gonna do a Pagani I really think you should do a Zonda R (and in just black, lime would be strange imo). That car is ripe for removable bodywork and internal detailing. The Huayra's cool and all, but it's been done in Technic multiple times before. The Zonda R in 1:8 scale would be something new and insane.

I agree with this for the most part, only because it's through the lens of a serious discount. A 30% discount (~$210 price) would be pretty good value for the set, but that's irrelevant to my argument of $300 requiring more functions to justify the cost. I do not see retailers holding this at MSRP, and therefore completely disagree that the average Technic consumer will accept $300 for it.

Sure, throw in some removable bodywork too, and leave a hole underneath so I can see the gearbox. I’d get behind that in a heartbeat. There’s also much to be said about the value of the building process. It’s incredibly satisfying to build a gearbox, hit the shifter and then hear the click of everything moving into place. I CANNOT for the life of me see how you can think this set has good value as a Technic set. Twice as much as 42077 and for what, more body pieces and a Ferrari sticker? I don’t think so. If it were $250 like the RSR then I could maybe understand (although it would still be a waste of pieces for an empty husk) but not $300. No way Both this and the RSR don’t even come close to approaching the limit of race car functions Agreed. The RSR was the same, but even worse in the aesthetic department. That thing looked like a frog

Because this is Technic, not Creator Expert, that’s why. I want to play with my sets. Gearboxes are cool as hell, add useful pieces and they’re fun to build and shift. They give you something to learn about and to fiddle with. Sorry if I’m a bit defensive about this, but I hate the attitude that Technic shouldn’t need to be about functions. Technic is NOT for display models, it’s for playing with, and I don’t say that with a gatekeeping attitude towards consumers - if you’re only interested in having it sit on the shelf that’s fine, but sets need stuff for those of us who want to take it down and fiddle with the gears from time to time. How would you feel if they removed the suspension and working drivetrain? What if it was just a static model that could only steer?

42124 Off-Road Buggy
Bartybum replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@msk6003 If the A-model is anything to go by, then it really wouldn't seem that hard to make a car without using a heap of gears. It really depends on what you want to make. I'm sure you can easily enough make another vehicle with it. The fact that 42065 was a tracked vehicle doesn't really mean anything -

We've been getting screwed on prices since 2016 Sometimes a glimmer of hope, like the Ducati, but most of the time it's ridiculous. I wonder how big the discounts will be, if at all. -

Australian prices are up for S@H for the Senna and 488 for any of us upside downers confused: $90 for Senna $300 for 488 What the actual f***? $250 was already a rip off for the 911 RSR, but they had to go and up the cost by 20%, and they STILL couldn't be assed to put in a gearbox. For just $30AUD extra you can get the Defender. Unless I can find it for $200, I'm not interested in the slightest. Also, thanks for inflating the cost of the Senna for no reason whatsoever. The yanks get it for the same price as the Corvette, whereas we have to fork out another 30%. Get bent TLG -
