  1. This is all quite the clusterfuck, all due to youtube throwing their content creators under the buss after they got caught with their arms up to their elbows in the cookie jar. I am not a US citizen, nor am i a content creator on youtube, but the conclusion i arrived at after watching Yangs video on the subject is that anyone even remotely touching on anything toy-like should mark their video as "for kids", or risk a youtube ban and/or getting sued by the FTC, which given the fines mentioned could be a life-wrecking event. From my point of view, this will pretty much wipe the lego community off of youtube, as will many other hobbies, gaming will surely be impacted, and any light popular entertainment or basic science-shows are a goner too. I think the only reasonable response here is to move to a different platform, youtube was being scummy and is now passing the bill to its users, making life very hard on therm. I think it is time to move to another platform, and find another way of sustaining content creators. Moving away from youtube is going to suck, but i think communities like ours can do it, the AFOL community already has plenty of bespoke infrastructure such as bricklink, brickset and brickshelf. I do realize hosting a video platform is on a whole new level in terms of hardware and bandwidth, so maybe brickfilms.net isnt quite here yet, but moving most of the content over to a platform like vimeo is definitely possible if the will is there.
  2. That Ferrari is excellent, and totally sells me on the 8-wide concept, for as far as i wasnt sold already, im kinda sad that this year doesnt have an amazing lineup of cars so far though, but there is always the 4th single halfway through the year.
  3. Looking at 8460 on bricklink 8460 has: - central outrigger control - pneumatic boom rather then LA, which while cool, is worse in terms of usability, as the boom will sag over time when air leaks from the system, it could also lower as load on the boom compresses the system. - actual (metal?) hook 42108 has: - higher part count - LA Boom, which while less sexy, i consider superior. - 4 axles rather then three, all of which are steered, vs 3 axles, one of which steered And both sets have a similar enough price, im not sure on the USD price for 42108 yet, but given that 8460 cost $100 back in the day, 24 years of inflation means that 42108 could cost as much as $140-150 (which it doesnt) to have parity. I totally get the appeal of 8460, it is a sleek looking set, and the pneumatic stuff is cool, but the new crane looks pretty damn cool as well, slightly less compact, but more sleek on the other hand, and without nitpicking the dimensions, i suspect the new crane can reach higher AND further, which is in the end, what cranes do. Honestly, the only thing i can knock the new crane for is the lack of hook (which lego has done away with ages ago) and the manual outriggers at the front
  4. Im not seeing any space for an axle to branch off of the back outriggers, nor an opportunity to drive the front ones in that space. There isnt a whole lot of space in the mid-section to pass axles through either. It might be modable, but stock im not seeing it
  5. From a technical view im not exactly blown over by the boom extension, using a ratchet rather then a worm gear put a lot of static strain on the entire mechanism (all gears and axles between boom and ratchet are strained when the boom is extended and erected), but im guessing it should be easy to convert to a worm gear. Im also quite curious to see how sturdy the extended boom is, from what i can see it is just a single thickness bar with plates top and, it would be nice if there was some option to reinforce it more, but looking at the lower boom, i guess not. I do hope this crane will be strong enough to at least lift a smaller technic model for a nice showpiece setup. Ive seen €99 floating around as the german price, which sounds good to me, with the inevitable 25-30% discount spikes, ill be picking one up
  6. Im totally digging the little buggy, looks like an excellent desktoy, and a great source for small orange panels (and a shock!) The pullbacks really look great, much better then recent efforts, even if the concept is getting old, at least these two look fresh and like actual drag-cars rather then the weirdo futuristic cops and robbers stuff. The stuntshow looks like it is a very fun playset, it isnt for me, but i can see kinds having tons of fun with it, i spot a pullback motor in the bike! The class doesnt interest me that much, feature wise its probably only got steering and some swivel bits. The boat also looks like a lot of fun for kids (remember playing with a firefighter lego boat in the tub as a kid myself), but a pass for me myself. Very curious about the B-models! EDIT: only missing 42107 from this wave, which is the "2w", hoping for a cool motorcycle
  7. So 1292 pieces, meaning we are looking at a €100-110 set optimistically right? Looks a whole lot better then the spider crane, for not that much extra in terms of price/pieces. Im not huge on crane, but ever since i narrowly missed out on 42042, i feel like i should pick one up to try it, this might be the one if the price is right.
  8. Very evocative of 42077, makes me wonder what that car would have looked like in 42096's downsized wheel arches had come a year earlier. Im also totally digging the turbo under the hood. On the other hand, €130 for 460 parts just because of C+ and perhaps the TG license is just insane, that is ~100 parts over 42065/95. If this had been the same ~80 of those two sets i might have been interested in trying out the new stuff. Do we have a release date yet? Id like to get my hands on the chassis design, it would be an interesting project to build this, but powered by regular PF, and see how it performs
  9. 60 euros for two cars is just insane, personally i dont look at part counts or side builds when it comes to speed champions, just the price of a car, and whether i like the cars/renditions of those cars. And even if they had gone for a proper lambo, like an aventader or whatever, 60 euros for two cars is soundly NOPE, especially if they can do 40 for two cars in the jag set, that difference is mind boggling. Im curious to see what the singles end up costing, usually the SC sets are small enough that i dont bother bargain hunting, but with the significant decline of physical toystores here, and the rise in price, impulse lego-buys arent as common for me anymore.
  10. Why does that matter? Im not saying the Urus is slow, im saying it isnt made to be a fast car primarily, because if that was the case, it would be 500kg lighter and a good bit lower, more like say, a huracan. SUVs are lifestyle mobiles made to show off how well youve done in life, they suck at off-road compared to actual purpose built offroaders, and they suck at being fast compared to cars actually built to race
  11. I think its more that Lego decided to replicate the wrong Lamborghini SUV, the Urus is just an Audi in an edgy track suit, the real deal is the LM002, with the glorious lambo V12 Then again, even if they did a Huracan + LM002 combo pack id probably skip it, SUVs dont belong in th SC lineup, they arent made for speed and certainly arent champions of anything, except maybe a tractor cosplay contest.
  12. @jb70 Excellent work! Will you be keeping the Pimp up my landrover project going like with the porsche/bugatti? Ill probably build it in pimped out spec straight away when i finally get one.
  13. This is probably 90% the colour, but im getting a huge Reventon vibe from it. 100% instant Lambo recognition though.
  14. @Kaydash Thanks for the link, very simple indeed, but im not sure i like that solution, on the rear it simple limits the travel, and at the front it fixates the suspension entirely, i think the front would be improved by fixating both ends of the axle though the upper wishbone and removing the spring, as this takes away any latent tension. Sadly this solution stops it from any travel, and as such removes a features from the model. I do agree that in terms of looks, it is much much better then the stock version
  15. @Kaydash looks good, if it werent for me wanting realism, id swap the red wheels on there in a heartbeat, it looks so good. How did you drop the suspension by the way? I really want mine about half a stud lower, but i cant figure out an easy fix, and dont really want to rebuild both axels
  16. Oh man, now im sad thinking of what could have been, literally any other lambo then the Urus (well, and the LM002) would have made for a killer lineup, a Miura, Countach, Diablo, Aventader, Murciellago, even a bog standard Gallardo, a Sesto Elemento, or the recently announced Sian... And they go and pick the Urus... Either way, given that the leak at the start of the thread has been accurate so far, that means we have three single cars to look forward to: A roadgoing Ferrari, a Nissan GT-R and the '85 Audi S1 (which i would assume would be in rally trim). For the Ferrari my guess is still the SF90 Stradale (as the stradale translates easily to "road car")
  17. regarding the 8 wide vs 6 wide, while i agree that it completely breaks with the established SC look, it does allow the cars to go from this cartoonesque look to near realistic models, i checked the dimensions on the senna for instance, and if widened to 8 studs, the proportions (with/height/length) would all be PERFECT for the real car. As for the pics, i love the Huracan, and if that was a single car set, id pick it up 100%, as a big bundled set coupled with another SUV monstrosity... i think ill skip it unless i find it at a steep discount sadly. Im very much interested to see what they can come up with on the single car sets though.
  18. I was wondering why you would expect the Defender to dethrone 8880 if both the porsche and bugatti have already failed in that regard. Ill need to rebuild 8880 sometime, but after building the community corrected porsche, i dont expect 8880 to top that, and i would expect a fixed bugatti or defender to be excellent models as well, its just a bit sad that stock they dont live up to the technic name and price tag
  19. Why wouldnt it? Lego is so flexible, you could probably motorize this set with a 30 year old 9v motor, sure you would end up with control via cable, and performance would probably suck, but it would all fit.
  20. I agree that for a simple question which can be answered in a single post, a generic thread is better, but otherwise i dont see the point in policing what does or doesnt warrant a new thread. Generally there is more then enough posts in popular threads that unpopular ones fade away into the distance quickly.
  21. Me neither, as others have said, its probably TG trying to pull themselves up by the Lancia and Lego brands. AFAIK TG never did anything spectacular to a Delta which would make a model stand out as "that TG car", so they couldve just sold it as a lancia delta without the TG license. Makes me wonder though, will this be an AWD RC car?
  22. found a list on a dutch site (https://www.bouwsteentjes.info/lego-sets-2020/) LEGO Technic 42101 Beach Buggy LEGO Technic 42102 Claas Xerion LEGO Technic 42103 Dragster LEGO Technic 42104 Racing Truck LEGO Technic 42105 ? LEGO Technic 42106 Stunt Truck and Motorcycle LEGO Technic 42107 ? LEGO Technic 42108 Crane Truck LEGO Technic 42109 Top Gear Lancia Delta LEGO Technic 42111 Fast & Furious Car LEGO Technic 42112 ? LEGO Technic 42113 ? LEGO Technic 42114 ? LEGO Technic 42115 ? Top gear lancia delta... my words that would be awesome EDIT: the delta would be the RC car, bummer, i dont care about those at all
  23. Just wait untill you see what TLC produces trying to reproduce that within a $90 budget... If the ZR1 is any indication...
  24. surely a F&F based set would be of something entertaining? Personally im just surprised that we will actually get a F&F set, that franchise isnt exactly family friendly, and its views on cars/driving are rather specific... Either way, im curious to see what it ends up being.
  25. Excellent! assuming the clearance is available for the steering rods etc.. this would allow for a turning point much closer to the center of the wheel, and more realistic steering geometry, and will require less overside wheel arches to allow for wheel movement!
