Amazing stuff, and i bet at least half the people here dreamed of making something that actually flies in their childhood I didnt have a big megablocks lab power supply though, nor do i consider cranking huge voltages through those little motors "stock", but hey, coolest lego thing ive seen in a long time

LEGO Speed Champions 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Vectormatic replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Well that is one way to go about it :P I think that will be quite difficult though, might require a complete redesign to look right. Personally i just wont display them side by side, put a little physical distance between the generations and the difference wont be as jarring The 6-wide city race cars have been awesome for a few years now, ive recently gotten rid of a lot of them because i simply dont have the space, but you cant argue with those $10 speed-champions-lite cars, the set you've got as an avatar is also quite appealing, if i had space to put up a massive collection i'd be getting all of them -
Some random musings here, i checked out the regional lego store yesterday, and saw that the mini-xerion was out of stock, and later saw the orange cherrypicker from last year somewhere. I think its quite interesting that last year we got a pretty low-effort recolour of an old set in the $10 segment, yet this year they hit it out of the park with not one, but two sets in the space, the xerion being pretty exceptional in terms of features, and the buggy just looking awesome and ticking all the boxes.

LEGO Speed Champions 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Spotted the F8 in the lego store yesterday, and while im still holding off on buying, it looks spectacular in real life. Yes, the details are a tad blocky/coarse, but the proportions look bang on, and the details are on a whole new level. Im sure the next few waves will see the 8-wide designs improve, but where it is right now already makes them look much more like proper scale models rather then carricatures. -

@OpenBagTwo Is that a modded 488GT3? looks good! Also, seeing them side by side really drives home how much more detailed the F8 is, the 488 has a wildly unrealistic windscreen/roof etc.. The F8 on the other hand looks a bit crude due to the size of lego bricks relative to its details, but im sure lego will work it all out, just compare the first year 458GT2 with the 488GT3, or the first year 911 RSR with the later version -

Not picking up the F8 is going to be a huge test of my self-discipline for a few months, i promised myself i wouldnt buy anymore stuff until ive moved house in april, and technic seems to be more then accomodating by having a boring H1 lineup, but these SC cars look very interesting at least. -

@OpenBagTwo While Sembo does have some seemingly original designs, at least part of the sets in your linked ali listing are obvious recolours or lego designs, so still partially copy cat -
I never realized the 4L diff could be combined with a driving ring for a locking diff, ill put that down to my dark ages putting a clean break between old studfull and new studless On the topic of that diff though, AFAIK you can drive it perpendicularly, with the crown wheel, but i might be misremembering. Good to see the new diff offers more versatility, both with the option for a diff lock and the option for both parallel and perpendicular drive, now it remains to be seen if lego will use this new diff in all sets requiring a diff, or just for the higher load applications like an RC car.

This, the BMW, while a bit expensive/high on parts, was a cool set and brought something new to the table (telelever front fork, shaft drive), the tracked racer is a cool and much higher value RC set. Sets like the small gyrocopter and the telehandler were also pretty cool imho. Personally i think this year's H1 wave is easily the worst we've had in quite some years

Maybe the straight cut 16 tooth gears are a decent middle ground, rather then making the ratio 1:1,66 or 1,66:1, two of those 16t gears would make it 1:1

LEGO Speed Champions 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Vectormatic replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Guys, can we let it go please? trolls are best ignored. (and there is always the report button) @DeductedMiller Good to see a longtime fan of the theme being happy with the new format, the F8 is the one im most looking forward to, as a bit of a ferrari fan. -
Fair point, i dont have any technic cranes yet, but when i do get one, i want to display it lifting some other lego set, so im curious how much this set could lift. As for the comparison with 42082, on piece count and MSRP it is indeed a step above 42009, but it is regularly to be found well below 42009s price, so i think comparing them is fair game, either way the gap is much smaller between those two sets then between 42009 and 42108

Hmm, the offset steering wheel is a bit of a letdown, hadnt seen that yet. Ill be trying to hold off on buying these cars because ive got different stuff to do untill summer, but im really looking forward to building these -
isnt slagging off everything lego ever puts out his thing though? Thats not to say these sets are very good, but i think they are aimed much more at kids, and a negative review is pretty much a given from that guy. From an AFOL perspective, i think this year is the first year since i came out of my dark ages that i probably wont bother with any H1 set. Nothing speaks to me enough to bother with allocating time to it, given that i have 42110 waiting to be built, and will be moving house in two months. Traditionally i havent been a big fan of H2 sets either, but i hope this year brings something good, i hope the "ultimate" red car is on par with the porsche and bugatti

Im going to ruin everyones year with this one (especially nerdsforprez :P ), i found a 8880 yesterday, in box (albeit the box was terribly scuffed up), with manual, missing only four small pieces, for only 25 euros at the local thrift shop. Picked it up, sorted and checked the inventory, and now it is underneath the christmas tree waiting for a friend who expressed his interest in my collection a while back, and said he'd like to build something again. Mind you, that is only because i already own 8880, if i hadnt, this puppy would have gone into my own collection. EDIT: al this talk of 90s sets makes me want to pick up 8440, i remember ogling that in the catalogs, such a cool racecar -
Am i the only one disappointed in the steering mechanism in the buggy? I love small sets like this and 42084, but i simply cant agree with the usage of a steering mechanism which only works because of the slack/slop in lego parts.

42108 - Mobile Crane
Vectormatic replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, that Xiaomi crane really puts thing in perspective... It also has manual slew, and the boom extension nob being on the boom end is a bit meh, but it has centrally controlled outriggers and costs less then half of the lego item..
