Brick Railway Systems (BRS) engines & rolling stock
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I extended Tony Sava's 2-8-4 Berkshire to include another blind driver, gave it a completely new boiler and did a bunch of other stuff including redoing the tender last year. The last Sava derived objects are the wheels / drive valve and some of the under-frame. I hope that it's okay that I release the instructions for this MOC! ...Anyway, here is the back story: These twenty four 2-10-4 (2 leading, 10 drivers, and 4 trailing wheels) locomotives numbered 6394 – 6418 were built in 1939 – 1940 by Lima locomotive Works. They were based off the very successful 2-8-4 Berkshire type Lima had sold to Brick Railway Systems (BRS) in 1933. One of these engines was 6398, which was painted in the BRS standard black with a red box on the tender and red stripe on the funnel. Number 6398 served well on the heavy freight duties it was designed for, though, as with the Berkshires, the engines proved equally adapt at handling the passenger trains as well as the heavy freights. Engine Type: Steam, heavy freight Configuration: 2-10-4 Engine Class: Berkshire Designer: (unknown) Build Date: 1939 Road number(s): 6398 Builder: Lima Locomotive works Current Owner: Brick Railway Systems Length: 81 studs (with tender) Width: 8 studs Height: 10 bricks Top Speed: 100 MPH 2-10-4 (Brick Railway Systems) #6398 The parts to modify this engine are on order. The tender is supposed to say "BRICK RAILWAY SYSTEMS" and "6398" goes on the cab / tender rear. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1413678781m.lxf 909 Limited passenger train and 2-10-4 First uploaded in November 2012, this passenger train originally had six 8-wide cars consisting of a baggage car, four passenger coaches, and a observation car. It was pulled by my 2-8-4 Berkshire for a while before I whittled down the number of the (slightly heavy) cars to a more manageable total of four. Over these two years I have modified them a lot, taking out the detailed interior and replacing the complex window assembly with something less fragile. Recently I have decided to change my 2-8-4 Berkshire steam locomotive to a 2-10-4 Texas type. I am also going to revamp these cars once more, this time reducing the distance between windows to one stud and turning the baggage car into a half passenger coach / half baggage car, also known as a combine. By the way, here is the original inspiration for these cars, a vintage 2009 LEGO model of "Galaxy Express 999". (Link to Brickshelf: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=374748 ) The name 909 Limited is a combination of that train (It's from a movie, I think!) and the Beatles song "One after 909". The rear view of the train. Printed 1x1 tiles with the numbers 9, 0, & 9 go on the rear under the balcony. I for one would love Daylight 4-8-4... but we just got a huge orange train so the daylight does seem less realistic. Maybe a CB&Q Zephyr, like the one in Chicago (Pioneer Zephyr) or the one in St. Louis (General Pershing Zephyr)? Or maybe something more exotic: a camel-back or mother Hubbard? Maybe they will do a Big Boy 4-8-8-4, since the Union Pacific is returning one to stream?

wow! This is an old thread of mine I thought I'd never see again! if you are interested, here is the updated version of the box. (I just changed the color to dark blue!) And just for kicks, here is Unikitty from the LEGO Movie and her TARDIS: Backstory: I was fiddling with this model today, and came up with a better color scheme. I also added a companion for Unikitty, Joey the Snail. (His name was snagged from my sisters old blog / project: "The Little Green Frog Blog". ) Background: After leaving Cloud Cuckoo Land immediately following the events of the LEGO movie, Unikitty goes on an adventure with Benny thge 1980's-something-space-guy across the universe to a planet where snails and Frogs can talk. She manages to convince one glasses-wearing snail named Joey to go with her and Benny to the planet of Gallifrey, as Benny & Joey are huge Doctor Who fans. Benny manages to find the planet in a secondary universe but cannot land. Unikitty & Joey manage to get to the surface and borrow a TARDIS. They paint it in Cuckoo Land pastel colors and then accidentally send themselves hurtling through time and space to an unspecified destination, leaving Benny to fend for himself. That's all I have so far. LDD file: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1395179782m.lxf NOTE: The sonic screwdriver is supposed to have this jewel part on top: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=15745 and one of these parts on top of the console: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3960pb028 ....and yes, Unikitty fits in the Bessie. (the car) Any questions?

Adventurers Back-stories (up to 1925) THE BAD LORD SAM SINISTER Brother of Alexis Sinister, and Lord of Sinister Manor. Sam lost his left hand in World War I while in the British Army. He later replaced it with a polished steel hook which is as cold as his heart. ALEXIS SINISTER The sister of Lord Sam Sinister is completely evil and slightly unhinged while being crack shot with any weapon. She hates Johnny Thunder to an extreme extent after he refused to join Sinister in his diabolical schemes. Last seen on Dino Island escaping to places unknown while the island was sinking. SENOR PALOMAR This South American crime lord is an associate of the Sinister family. He helped Sinister try and get the Sun Disk from the Amazon jungle, before losing it to Achoo, the ancient guardian of the disk. After that adventure, Palomar has fallen out of favor with Lord Sam Sinister, but he hopes to be in his good graces again soon. THE GOOD JOHNNY THUNDER Australian adventurer extraordinaire and friend to all those in need. Thunder first met Sam Sinister in 1917 when Sinister was in a field hospital for his hand amputation and Johnny was recovering from slight case of shell shock. They have been against each other ever since then. MISS PIPPIN REED This former lead reporter for Adventurer Times was reporting on a Dr. Kilroy's 1920 discovery of a copy of the Book of the Dead when she met Johnny Thunder at a dig site near Cairo, Egypt. They have been good friends ever since, even though Ms. Reed happens to be an better aviator than Johnny. MAJOR QUENTIN STEELE Former British Army officer (and Sinister's former commander, whom Sinister still hates today) This Monster Fighter lost his eye in 1912 due to a fight with a certain Werewolf, whom he later tracked down and defeated. He has signed on to Johnny Thunder's team to fill in for the deceased Dr. Charles Kilroy after his unfortunate heart attack. HARRY CANE Former British army mechanic and technical / inventive genius. He was snubbed by his fellow mechanics and senior officials for his work on a failed prototype radar during World War I. He later became friends with Johnny Thunder after the war when Thunder wanted to learn to fly. Mr. Cane is currently running the repair shop end of Jack Hawkins' shipping company alongside Pippin Reed. MIKE At sea with his parents on a steam ship when he was 10, Mike was separated from the rest of the survivors when he ship wrecked on the reef surrounding Dino Island. He lived on the island for 7 years, before being rediscovered and returned to civilization by Johnny Thunder in 1923. He has since become a valuable member of the Adventurers Team as their resident survivalist and animal expert. CAPTAIN JACK HAWKINS Friend of Johnny Thunder and former US Naval Officer. Currently owns the Delta Queen coastal steamer and runs a freight shipping company with Pippin Reed as chief aviator and Harry Cane as lead mechanic. He met Johnny after the Great War's end when Johnny was looking for a way to get home to Australia via the Suez Canal. THE MISSING (no picture) JAKE RAINES After defeating Amset Ra in Egypt in early 1923, the former army buddy of Johnny Thunder went missing in a mysterious storm while heading for England. It is believed he was heading for England to request Thunder's help with finding the legendary Poseidon's Sword located somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle. It is not known if Raines survived or not, despite extensive searching by Captain Jack Hawkins & aviator Harry Cane. The stories I write follow these guidelines based on official LEGO themes, including: Monster Fighters, Pharaoh's Quest, and the Adventurers sub-themes such as Dino Island, Jungle, Egypt, and Orient Expedition. The timeline goes something like this: Desert Adventurers: Summer to late fall 1921 Jungle Adventurers: Spring to summer 1922 Dino Island Adventurers: Nearly All of 1923 Orient Expedition: Winter 1923 / 1924 to Summer 1924. Monster Fighters: 1920 Pharaoh's Quest: 1922-23 Other themes / ideas may have inter-play in there eventually, such as tie-ins to World War One. I'm usually a train builder, and this is my first Bionicle MOC since 2009... TAHU - TOA OF FIRE 700 years after the defeat of Makuta, Tahu is still the leader of the Toa Nuva... or what remains of it. Tahu has witnessed the Battera War, where an indescribable army of machines had destroyed half of the Toa that had survived Makuta's reign of Terror before his defeat. He saw Kopaka calmly go to his death at the hands of the Machine army in a battle of mutual self-destruction. Kopaka destroyed the Machines, but Gali never forgave Tahu for not stopping the Toa of Ice from destroying himself in that final battle. He witnessed Gali swim off into the oceans of once what was called Aqua Magna, never to return. Her reason for doing so was revealed to Tahu, but this has never been told to anyone else. He now has bigger things to worry about: someone or something is picking off the Toa Nuva one by one... and he might just be next! SETREX - TOA OF IRON This Toa of Iron was originally a Matoran of Iron who received a strange stone from Kopaka just before he rode off to his doom. When Kopaka died, the stone transformed Setrex into a Toa. With his new-found powers, Setrex set about making his new Kanohi mask, from a chunk of protodermis and a old Iron Wolf skull. He created a new type of Kanohi, one he sort of after Kopaka.. This mask has the power of seeing the unseen, like shielded or invisible objects become visible in slightly hazy form to Setrex. The reason for the Iron Wolf skull was simple: Toa Kopaka was always a kind of Lone Wolf, and his mask of X-Ray vision was the inspiration for the power type. Now he lives on, in a way, in the Kanohi Kopak. The Toa of Iron has now joined forces with the remaining Toa Nuva, (Tahu & Takanuva) and a shadow Toa named Vercaz in search of the being - or beings - who wants the Nuva dead. VERCAZ - TOA OF TWILIGHT Created from a Matoran of Light that had been drained of his light by the Makuta 700+ years ago, Vercaz the shadow matoran was turned into a Toa of Shadow artificially by an unknown process. After the defeat of the Makuta by Mata Nui, the shadow Toa wandered the wastes of Spherus Magna and eventually came to the shrine of the Mask of Life. Touching the mask in a effort to put it on, he was blasted by the Toa of Light, Takanuva. The mask cured his evil-tainted soul, and the Toa restored his light halfway. Now called the Toa of Twilight, Vercaz has turned to the side of good. He has half the powers of a Toa of Shadow and half of a Toa of Light. However, Vercaz still has nightmares about his time as a Toa of Shadow, and he worries about the fine balance he must walk. He has set off on a quest with Takanuva, Tahu Toa of fire, and Setrex, a toa of Iron to find the ones responsible for the deaths of Onua, Pohatu, & Lewa. The whole team, minus Takanuva. Johnny Thunder: The Myth, the Minifig
Murdoch17 replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thank you, Peppermint-M, for bringing Johnny back into the spotlight! I had a couple Adventurers sets back in 2000 (Dino Island) and 2003 (Orient Expedition) and I was very pleased to see him in the LEGO Movie "Super Secret Police Dropship" set. My question is this: Now that they have his mold for his hat again, do you think there is a possibility for a revival? The last Adventurers-like theme was the single Monster Fighters wave back in late 2012.... once the Haunted House goes away later this year, do you think it is possible for Thunder to return?- 24 replies

You have the LEGO Movie Johnny Thunder, but all rest of your Adventurers figs are outdated. Not to worry, I have the solution: updating and upgrading your figs to modern standards. However, please note, all pictures are from Bricklink, and NOT me! Also, the links below each picture lead back to the part listed at Bricklink. For example, the Alexis Sinister link leads to her mini-figure page at Bricklink. This is so you can build your own figures very quickly! First up: Alexis Sinister, brother of Lord Sam Sinister. Original fig: Link: http://www.bricklink...em.asp?M=adv002 New Fig: This 1920's looking hair... Link: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=3626bpb109 The original head... Original figure: Link: http://www.bricklink...em.asp?M=adv025 The same old top hat.... Link: http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=3878 with the same head: Link: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=3626bpx127 Together with this fur coat: Link: http://www.bricklink...?P=973pb1646c01 ...and this flat silver hook instead of his left hand. Pippin Reed Original figure Link: http://www.bricklink...em.asp?M=adv049 Instead of a hat, we have a nice hair that looks as though she'd just taken off her helmet. Link: http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=15705 This head (or really, any generic female head will do): Link: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=3626bpb430 This suit represents a flight jacket, as Miss. Reed flies the Island Hopper seaplane. Link: http://www.bricklink...p?P=973pb962c01 with some plain dark bluish gray pants. Now for a certain South American crime lord, you know him as... Senor Palomar! Original figure: Link: http://www.bricklink...em.asp?M=adv023 This hat: Link: http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=13565 The same old head: Link: http://www.bricklink....asp?P=3626bpa4 This Indian Jones torso does nicely as well (you just need to switch out the hands to yellow): Link: http://www.bricklink...p?P=973pb530c01 plus a plain pair of pants (white, dark bluish gray or black will do) Mike, the ever lovable Dino Island explorer is next up on our Adventure. Original version: Link: http://www.bricklink...em.asp?M=adv014 First come a dark tan Calvary hat: Link: http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=30135 The head is this: Link: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=3626bpx134 This Lone Ranger suit works nicely to represent Mike's worn jacket. Link: http://www.bricklink...?P=973pb1451c01 And this for pants: Link: http://www.bricklink...p?P=970c00pb040 Also, as a bonus, here is Mike's main weapon, courtesy of the Lone Ranger sets: Link: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=3069bpb280 That's all (for now), and if anyone has any suggestions / combos the'd like to share, please do! Looks like I'm not the only one to build a Johnny Thunder redo. Great work on this. If you want to use the digital designs from my version, free to use them. Also, that suit for Thunder is not a half bad idea....- 7 replies

ThIs kinda looks like a Electro Motive Division (EMD) F40PH. They were built from 1975 to 1992 (and by another company from 1991 -2000) and were used by Amtrak until being replaced by the General Electric (GE) Genesis units starting in 1992. Brick Railway Systems (BRS) engines & rolling stock
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I have updated the 2-6-2 locomotive. It has a more Sava-style boiler, and a different cab. I have also updated the statistics: Engine Number: 4754 Engine Type: Steam, freight Configuration: 2-6-2 Engine Class: Prairie Designer: Baldwin Locomotive Works Build Date: 1921 Builder: Baldwin Locomotive Works Current Owner: Brick Railway Systems Length (including tender): 60 studs Width: 8 studs Height: 9 ⅓ bricks Top Speed: 75 MPH The New LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1412537572m.lxf A now for my other WIP, the Dark Green clerestory passenger train: This wonderful train comes with one steam locomotive, one baggage car, two passenger coaches and one observation car. Originally I styled it after 10015 (2001's Passenger Wagon from the "My Own Train" line), but I then went and made it less Western like. The letters B R S go on the rear platform. I also updated the model of the 2-6-0 to better reflect changes to the real-life model. It runs better this way. LDD MOCs - Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thank you, and yes, LDD seriously needs more Harry Potter-related stickers & prints! Thanks! I too wanted the motorized Hogwarts Express, but it really wouldn't work if released today: besides the obvious Power Functions upgrade / parts changes, the 3 wheel tender would not work as it bends the rails with the middle wheel. Tons of great train builders have come up with way better 3 wheel designs than this, but why didn't LEGO? Anyway, here is my newest MOD: Please see the first post for the LDD file! -
This build was based on LEGO set 4756 (called Shrieking Shack ) from the 2004 Harry Potter / Prisoner of Azkaban movie line. My revamped version of the set features a hinge system to allow access to the interior while preserving the sense that it is a complete building. The front of the house. Those 1x6 tan tiles in this build are all missing a specific rare wooden board print. (see it here: http://www.bricklink...m.asp?P=6636px1 ) The rear view features the secret exit to the tunnel from Hogwarts' Womping Willow and more boarded up windows. The Inside features a bed-frame, (from another Haunted House, set 10228) staircase with broken railing, couch, and phonograph courtesy of 10228. Here is the LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1412793485m.lxf Comments, questions & complaints are welcome!

working on a Famous Locomotive - wheels help and good ref images
Murdoch17 replied to Prince Manic's topic in LEGO Train Tech
BBB XL drivers are bigger than the LEGO ones. L size drivers are nearest to the official ones. I built Anthony Sava's Berskhire 2-8-4 with official wheels while his instructions recommends BBB L size drivers (blind and flanged). So far as that engine is concerned, it works fine with official LEGO wheels. LDD has the official wheels by the way. -
Not yet, got to look into that...

i'm typing this on the repaired computer. Thankfully, It was just the video card!
-
Yes, the green (power) light came on, and the fans started working. The monitor, keyboard, & mouse were not working / lit up... I hooked up another screen hoping my monitor was just fried, but nothing came up except for the words "NO VIDEO".
-
Okay, everyone Bad news and good news. My house had a direct lightning strike on Wednesday night at 3:00 AM and my computer won't boot up since then. I didn't even have internet until today, (I'm on another computer) I hope it's just my video card, but the possibility is that EVERYTHING could be gone. 8+ years of LEGO related papers and LDD files. I am actually glad my house didn't burn down that night, because all my LEGO models are 5 feet from that computer. It may be a while before I can post some more, but here's to hoping it's not as bad as I fear it could be!

SNOT: Studs Not On Top. It can be used as brick built lettering, like on the Modular buildings Cafe Corner, Fire Brigade, Pet Shop, & Town Hall. Here it's used for the large lettering on the locomotive's side. ...Personally, I prefer printed 1x1 tiles on trains, but to each their own.
