BrickTracks: different curves, PF/9V compatible
supertruper1988 replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Oh haha! The Ldraw thing is tricky to say the least. There is some info out there, but it basically says "all the good parts designers are to busy designing to bother to make tutorials" IE Get stuffed for wanting to join in. I know there is/was a program to help convert STL files into DAT files but I couldnt get it working. More info can be found here in the parts authoring section and in my experience our own @Philo seems to be very knowledgeable and may be able to help. -

Does this mean you might have Ldraw parts available for these? -

I would also give a shout out to BrickLink's studio. as well. It runs great on my Macs. -
LDD runs slow on mac

I have the same issue on all of my macs. It is likely inherent to how it handles the render. I have found that it helps if you use the "hide all colors" option at the bottom so its not rendering every color for every brick in one shot. -
How in the world do you not have groups in 5000 pieces surely there is at least one repeated assembly? Sylvain is correct tho, BluePrint is a starting point only, you will have to go thru and edit each step one by one to get something that builds in a correct order. I know for myself that doing a 750 part Star Warts ship to about 5 hours and 3 iterations to get it right. If you just need to bash something together then you could probably do it in less.

BrickTracks: R104 Switch Kickstarter is LIVE!
supertruper1988 replied to coaster's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I would love that too. Especially with products like the PFx Brick and S-brick where there is bluetooth control for trains and its IMO a better system than DCC. At least for the LEGO world of modeling. -

I think that a big problem is that most AFOLs are divided into 9V vs PF and these being only PF hurt it. But really 9V die hards are going to have to give in eventually. -

Well now that its officially done. I would like to say that I am ready to still give my money to BrickTracks for these things. Where do I sign? hahaha. Cant wait to see what the new plan A is! -
Ahh ok. I tried that very first step of swapping the part numbers on mine and it didnt work. Thanks for your work on this and your time to respond.

Hey @SylvainLS is this the same file that stud.io uses for its LXF conversion? I want to change the 1x1 tile to hard code to the variant with groove. Can you help?

I wont say its perfect. I know there are issues with the way that axles and pins snap into the bricks and other plates. Its a free download so I would just take a few minutes to try it out and see if it works for you.

I use Stud.io and LDD on my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro with 0 issues. Stud.io has a really good LXF importer but it does not retain the sub models so I recommend "exploding" the model in LDD first then opening in stud.io and placing all the parts together. Stud.io is also much easier to move parts around in and use connections that LDD doesnt support. Then to top that off the instruction creator is pretty great.

With Stud.io out now LDD is useless to many builders.

Hey @Bricked1980 I have created a guide on how to import LDD into BrickLink using ReBrickable. I find the interface on ReBrickable to be very user friendly and easy to swap out parts or their colors. You can find the guide here: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/159619-guide-using-rebrickable-to-retrieve-parts-list-from-ldd/

I know for me, I don't get the chance to build things "in the brick" very often due to being a dad that is in school full time along with a full time job. I started making instructions for the fun of sharing them with others. It also lets me design something then have an instruction manual so that when I have the time to build it is an easy way to have steps to follow so I don't have to remember where I left off. I already completed the design digitally and I can build a few steps here and there as time allows. The instruction process rule I have is that every part I place has to connect to the previous structure. It really helps me nail down a design and make sure that it will actually hold together once I build it. Quite the interesting topic to have here tho, thanks for prompting the discussion! If you would like to see what I have made available you can see my posts here for some of Imvanya's wonderful sports cars or on my ReBrickable page.

Help needed: modified switch geometry for layout
supertruper1988 replied to Chromeknight's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I used the nControl from 4DBrix and this is what I came up with: This used a bunch of the 4DBrix Modular switch parts and some R56 Curves. Here is the BOM: -
