LEGO Ninjago 2021
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
to me this list sounds weird as heck.. So I will wait for pictures or more info to speculate. No idea, what this can mean for seasons, if there even will be any. Maybe we'll just get some shorts - they already cut down the "winter season" last year. To me at least, the sets don't sound appealing at all. Almost no women, little diversity, no side characters. I "broke up" with mechs after Lloyds s11 titan mech. I just have no space for Lego at all anymore - so I have been well-behaved and at least not purchased any mechs since then -
Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Just after seeing a picture of all the figs from the Eternals movie (that doesn't interest me at all) I can appreciate: leg AND foot printing for 10 figures (!), which are all diverse: 6 not caucasian, 50% female, lots of colourful prints. If you were to count the new hair piece and the "prongs", we'd have even 4 new molds. I wonder where the ressources came from. Hidden side? -
But there are some structural issues within the process you describe. I like your analytical and open approach. I would add to that again, that maybe the original designer and testing theme calculated with lower costs but some other folks were changing that - maybe even because everything was too expensive. Whatever the internal structure of TLG maybe: the point and main issue is that 20€ is ludicrous. You can buy a proper video game or remote-controlled car with that cash. So at least there should be some border, some instance/authority saying "NO/STOP".

[REVIEW] 71395 Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Oky's topic in LEGO Licensed
It's a perfect design. Instead of crying about how this ain't what "we" (= a vocal minority amongst the diverse market) want: I would hope Lego does more of these kind of designs. They are certainly worth the price and place more than another action set. Yes, figures are cool and we should get CMF quality figs for all themes instead of going to costumers and scalping. But as BRICK sets, I really appreciate designs like this one, the piano, typewriter or the console + TV. They are not even MOC worthy but basically above anything we could do as a MOC.- 13 replies

LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well it has been some time - even if it would be an OT version; for Lego it would be a safe bet, as it's at least somehow connected with current canon. I don't know why they wouldn't do it: 1. if it would produce a controversy - and therefore be a strategic mistake - Lego didn't repeat a mistake for the first time 2. I would guess that it would not be so controversial anymore. It was a weird controversy to begin with, coming from groups which are unlikely to be TLG's costumers anyway. We have reached a time where everything is somewhat controvers and anyone can communicate this on the internet. Lego can and will become more bold. 3. They can also avoid the exterior, though that would be most unfortunate. This was like one of 1-2 affordable playets that had good exterior and interior. Even though the placement of Jabba's throne wasn't accurate to begin with. -

LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Do you think the majority of the market (even the specific group that gets UCS sets) cares for memes or even is aware of them? I am on this forum but even I wasn't aware of any meme, nor would it influence my opinion, that a UCS landspeeder would make a lot of sense. It's different enough from other sets - it's basically the equivilant of UCS car builds. If it will be a good design or have a decent price are two other stories. The landspeeder is one of the most iconic vehicles of SW - if it's not for you, I'm sure there's many other interested people! and wow - I didn't know about the Vader vs. A-Wing price. That set was a huge flop, as far as I'm aware of and anywhere I was, was like 50% off. If you are interested, PM me. I didn't find time so far to sell my versions (though they are modified into being almost studless and colour consistant). -
I think your first statement makes a lot of sense for Lego, the WWE or the movie industrie. But the rest you write is a huge junk of speculation - a lot of it could be true and maybe not. Let's go back to the first statement: many things are just a dilemma. Even as a CEO you can not necessarily change this overblown structure that has developed. These things are complicated, even if the CEO would be quite reflected (not saying it cann't be done though). We simply don't know many things from within the company. One example: are marvel sets so bad because they make enough profit anyway and keep - not just budget, but also the technical ressources for their own themes? If so; bad for marvel fans (which I'm not at all) but makes sense that they don't want to outcompete themselves and becoming even more dependent on all powerful licences. I think this makes much more sense than this weird conspiracy by like the majority of this forum, that Lego hates classic themes, marvel or whatever. Can also just be that the first don't sell anymore (as not just the mentioned themes above failed but also the last re-runs of classic themes) while ninjago does work. Who knows maybe there just isn't a market anymore next to ninjago (has a big base and is flexible) the big 3 (creator, city, technic) and the licences. But of course, also this is pure speculation. Could also be that the licence of marvel is so expensive, so there is almost no budget left. Maybe back with the first marvel movies it was cheaper but now disney increased the price, so Lego has to cut some corners to not lose the licence. Again, also just speculation. About being drunk on their sucess: it doesn't matter if they literally are forced to raise those prices regularly but at the end of the day there are already equally good alternatives with better designs for less then half the price. You can get much better builds there and if Lego would lose a lot of money from stunts like vidyo, then they could actually die pretty fast. ..which I doubt it will happen in the next 5 years but let's see. After all we don't know how much money they put in this theme (probably a lot) and how this will affect the overall production. Maybe they have one "do what you want" departement with a bunch of money and failure isn't a big deal. Maybe they were really ignorant and get just more into trouble. A lot of maybes - I'd prefer Lego would put out some honest and transparent videos regularly, like some of these alternative companies do. Would help us to understand better.
-
Can be. I think probably Lego has developed an internal structure which is inefficient and "blown up". There are alternative brands which produce with a similar quality in terms of bricks and much better quality in terms of designs for less than half the price. Can also be that the original team didn't plan to price the sets so high but the costs got out of hand or something. In the end it doesn't matter: they fu*** up and should have calculated before that no one will buy this. I don't know about your description of AFOL's. There are nuanced comments like yours. Then there is a lot of comments like "Lego hates the prequels and doesn't respect the fans because they didn't give us super commander Baxley from this or that show.
-
I don't want to beat a dead horse again but since this always comes up: who knows? Maybe the prequels are just too controversial and didn't age well for the younger audience and don't sell as well. I mean Lego doesn't bring out some new art collection twice a year - they bring out toys for children to make money. I dislike the majority of the sets but as an over 20y old person I know they are not made for me. They did a prototype for a Geonosis arena - what gives us the right to judge "Lego (a diverse big company with many departements and employees) hates the prequels and don't respect the fans (= a vocal minority within a huge market)!!" Maybe based on their knowledge (research, previous sales, etc.) they came to the conclusion that it would not sell well enough? They do bring out Jedi and Naboo starfighters every few years - but it seems EPII is somehow problematic. Lego fucks up enough - I feel sorry we are busy dealing with some anti-prequel conspiracy or small boxart/typo's instead of real problems - like that there is a market for better, costume parts, builds and figs instead of an official production by Lego.

lol - that Maul was literally just the current version in front of a Grevious torso and legs. Haaa - and I even saw the genius CW version (with the exclusive robo legs and arm printing..) once on sale for 9 bucks and didn't get it..... Anyway: was the side character Ronan from the cyber christal tv show? -
I think his armor is so specific and characteristic that they'd need to do a new piece. ..but I'd be happy anyway with any of the 3-4 existing armor pieces that would work still. If they'd do the earlier version of Saw, it would be much easier: no robolegs, no bushy grey-black beard, no cape, no hairpiece. Just standard printing and a reused armor piece. I doubt though, that we get the character in any version. It's too much effort for a relatively brutal character known mostly for a brutal movie. His cameos in other canon is too niche (so far) and in RO at least, he wasn't doing anything anyway.

After getting the parts a while ago - I finally had time to build: 1,5 days and I have a white/turquoise/dark azure Slave I. I'm so proud of it' now I really gotta get some tool for uploading pictures edit: the build was more complex, than I would have thought - but choosing white as base was a good choice as I had all the parts in white already, except for the big half round thingis at the base. The build though also lets me appreciate the newer version even more. Interestingly they are about the same size - but the newer version just has the best proportions so far.

I got all the figs I was looking for but out of curiosity: Where do you get those 6-packs? Because if one started with those then you'd have only 6 figures to look out for as there are no repeats. -

They could do many things but to finally get pirate-Jay or even a non-steampunk verison of the Missfortunes Keep would be pretty great! Versions of the figs without the tech would also be neat! -

Until the Mando sets I didn't touch any SW except for some cheaper battle packs. And the micro fighters with good figs were tempting. So especially in context of Large troop sets with little focus on figures, it could make sense to put out cheaper BP's. and 20 someting % is a drastic increase.. It would be cheaper to get some old snowtroopers from some online trade. Heck - even 4 highly detailed CMF's would be cheaper. I'd understand completely if the build would be more substantial. Like, put in a cool baseplate, a lot of pieces or something. But 100 pieces for 20 bucks.? At least from me: battle backs, ciao! -
I took the Armorer's helmet from Mando and put it on Thanos/Gamorra's body with the printed golden arms from some viydio box (they gave them away for free). Looks pretty amazing, a golden Mandalorian .
-
My problem so far is that we lack a beard piece or at least a good face print. If you go pursuit - and this fig obviously has little left to do with original Lego - then I think the new Grief Karga face + Marvel CMF's Monica Rambo hair would make sense. Not willing to get the recommended SW set with Grief Karga I just took the T'challa face. As for the body, there's many options but non will really nail down the specifics. I tried some mix of gun metal grey, dark and sand blue. If I get some flickr once, I'll post pictures.

How cool!! From ninjago I'd even like to have something like this Anyway, I was thinking a bit - do we have set names yet for the next yeason? Or was it just for Legacy? Because I am still wondering what setting we'll get next. If they stick to "integration of classic themes" - I think pirates would make sense. They could do another big ship - different enough from yet another Bounty. -
No I'm sorry, but because one fails doesn't mean the other group is right. There is for sure some demands and insights from many AFOL's that make complete sense, but there's many dogmas that could work or fail. We don't know either but many here just want to think they are right. Like obsession with random side characters that appeared twice in some episode of some TV show. Or the obsession with classic themes, despite Lego letting them phase out years ago after they failed (pirates, castle) next to much more creative themes. I think the fact Nexo knights or hidden side didn't work isn't an argument for more one-sided themes. Who know's - maybe the classic themes would fail even worse? Lego does their research and I would argue it's always their more weird and "artsy" departements/themes - like for their movie's - which leads to sets that fail so badly (like all the movie set lines, except for maybe the frst Lego movie. For years they are carefully testing the market anyway - Creator + Ideas sets or the integration of classic themes within ninjago. So there is hope for classic theme fans and for Lego. I just don't think a bland broad release of classic themes will happen anytime soon. _________________________________________________________________________________ At least though AFOL's have the excuse of just being some hobby-group. Lego though should really have thought about the consequenses of super expensive products that have no attatchement to some licence or brand. Like as cool as the designs are - they are literally just weird figures in weird builds. We live in a world dominated by "big brand movie/TV show universes" and in many parts of the world the economic situation has become gradually worse over the last 20 years. There is no space for unknown products unfortunately. I saw people who weren't even interested in the blind boxes for 1€. Price increase, no way of feeling the bags, unknown product, lesser quality and diversity compared to CMF's - not to mention the incredibly overpriced beatboxes. You could literally buy a remote controlled car for the price of one weird figure and some pieces. If Lego keeps going like this they will no longer be the only relevant producer of "brick-toys" on the market. 2-3 other pretty decent quality brands have just taken licences and could take a large junk of Lego, once they expand their business around the world. In eastern Europe they are pretty strong already. - and that's no promotion of these brands: I think they are stealing designs of bricks and sets and I would not buy any of them. "Kre-o" was bad in quality and designs but at least they did original parts and sets instead of stealing.

One advantage of not having moved to the US is never having to bother with this - I'm always the first to even touch the new stuff As it's only 12 figures though, the work is way easier than it was before. -
I just leave my 2 cents here I was trying to get into bricklink a while ago but I found it really complicated. I was trying to convince some sellers I meet to take some of my stuff for a pretty small price (Zeb and Ahsoka from Rebels for 10 bucks instead of 100 which is found sometimes) but they didn't want to take more stuff as they were also trying to get rid of things and were frustrated with how complicated it was to sell. I'm happy many people here seem to manage but after nothing worked for me so far I already gave a large portion of my stuff to young kids. Which is a bit of a shame because some of it has collector status So if anyone has an easy idea how to get contacts - even people who resell - I live in Germany and don't care too much about money but rather feel sorry if the Lego goes just to some kids who prefer phones anyway.

I guess around the world the demand is different. I expected at least some interest but I was for over one hour the only person feeling the bags. ...which was pretty hard btw. The jumper and "action pose" pieces as well as the extra plastic of some figs made it quite difficult. But I was pretty lucky - there was just one Falcon figure while there were at least 5 Loki's and Chadwick Bosman's. I am not at all a fan of Marvel but I gotta appreciate the amazing printing on Falcon. For sure the best figure they ever did. The printing quality is just not the same as from other figures. ..with those I was unfortunately quite unlucky. Pieces and prints are smeard (arm printing of Monika Rambo was just going away by touching it) and Wanda was missing her cape. I never once encountered a CMF with a missing piece! Does anyone know if it's possible to get replacement even for CMF's?
