Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
Exetrius replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
by Allen Tran, on Flickr New head moulds, fantastic wings! And I don't recognize that piece used for the nest, any guesses? @rodiziorobs Very excited to see them available in non-licenced and cheap sets already! -
The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Exetrius replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Guess I should have done a little more research, CS came just after my father's childhood after all and I haven't owned nor played with CS sets. That said, I browsed through the CS sets tagged "spaceship" on Brickset, and concluded that in general CS sets have a lot of the build dedicated to functional volume compared to what's going into the wings. Compare that to, say, a Naboo Starfighter, Krennics shuttle, a Jedi fighter or a TIE fighter: the focus is different. That's what I was getting at. @Aanchir Yes please! Those had cool interiors! @icm I easily forget CS is not just the blue-grey-trans yellow.. not at all excited by the white-grey-trans blue actually.- 991 replies

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Exetrius replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Pretty much all of the Imperial craft and walkers adhere to the very grey colour scheme indeed, but that makes them appealing to group together, in the same way as all things Classic Space look good together. So I don't know if it's the colour. What is lacking in SW sets, which was present in CS, is attention to functional space and the pilot. Most large SW sets are not minifig scale on the exterior, sometimes not even featuring a cockpit. Of the smaller craft, most sets have little else besides a cockpit. A space for a blaster or a little crate maybe, but that's it. All the attention is focused on wings and engines and such. CS is about galaxy explorers, they need to live in their spaceships, so the interior matters!- 991 replies

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Exetrius replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I'm pumped for this and really curious what they come up with. From what I know, Overwatch is basically country/cultural archetypes as heroes/villians, in sci-fi style. The worldmaps are equally diverse and interesting. I expect a ton of new parts useful for sci-fi and space minifigs/mocs, though maybe not in the Classic Space department. I just remembered I said something about games and sci-fi... It turns out it was in my first post in this thread: Somewhat close, right? Fathers of this generation want cool exoplanet exploration vehicles Overwatch. SW has some nice ships, aliens, soldiers and pilots covered, but the overly-present media merchandising is slowly killing me (not to mention: overpriced!). DC/Marvel has it's moments, but on the whole not a consistent source of good sci-fi material. So it's good to have a fresh flavour in LEGO's current sci-fi niche (even if it is yet another licence)!- 991 replies

Sweet picture, he fits right in I see! You used regular bricks for the seating? In that case you could perhaps swap them for dark tan palissade bricks (https://brickset.com/parts/design-30136) to give it cushion-like feel.- 6 replies

What is the single rarest and/or most expensive LEGO piece?
Exetrius replied to RunnersDad's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's not how desirability works. It's just that the absolute lack of opportunities to obtain it discourages you to want it. I'm sure I will never own a Bugatti Veyron, but is it still desirable? Heck yes! -
No, from the lady in the Creator Expert roller coaster set: https://brickset.com/ajax/minifigs/mainImage?image=http%3a%2f%2fimg.bricklink.com%2fItemImage%2fMN%2f0%2ftwn320.png

Is this a new trans red canopy? Also, though not really on topic, have you guys read this article on New Elementary: http://www.newelementary.com/2018/05/peter-reid-space-turtle-legoloverman.html? Gives a really neat example of how a MOC concept can gain a universe worth of lore and evolve with it, also with the help of new elements released through the years. Btw, I redesigned my signature.- 991 replies

Eurobricks Glinch Royale Competition (WINNERS ANNOUNCED)
Exetrius replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Congratulations to the winners, you guys made some truly awesome entries! -
[Important part below!] I refuse to say GoH is dead, I'd call it a slumber. If we all stop believing, then it's done. But there's a lot of awesome builds and loads of lore that continues to make people enthusiastic enough to join the Guilds these days. I find myself guilty of not posting here for months straight. I've expanded my building interests, but there comes a point that I will be itching to build GoH castle fantasy stuff. I have my personal saga and a city to develop, no sign of quitting. I have thought about how to increase activity. RPGs are all about creating a fantasy reality. Interactions between members in-universe have almost disappeared; our fantasy world has become less interconnected. It is becoming harder to picture the exciting world, the network of places and characters we built, and to see the paths that lead to the yet unexplored places. There's this feeling that you don't know where to start or to continue. That's why contests still succeed (aside from prizes): the starting point and context have been set, so then it's just a matter of choosing a path to follow. I propose the following: Guilds of Historica: Revisited Per guild, members are assigned an existing settlement, with one simple task: build something that fits in with it. Each member will be assigned to 1 existing settlement, and not one of their own. The existing lore and builds be your source material. How you interpret it is up to you, make sure to have fun. The focus is on member participation and growing appreciation and acknowledgement for your fellow guildmates and the world of Historica. Size limit of 16x16, or 32x32. Optional revival of the Guild scores: your Guild receives 1 point per 16x16 build, 2 points for a 32x32 build. Can be expanded upon as a recurring event, or even with themed rounds. How does this sound to you?

Kabuki Nya and 'Mirror future' Jay.. oh my! Cool metallized silver baseball bat, also! Actually, I'm really delighted to see designs that predate the style reboot that resulted from the Ninjago Movie. As others have suggested, the ever so desirable remaining Elemental Masters would have been welcome (Gravis, please!), but the mere fact that this is a thing joys me and gives me hope that some more will be released eventually. There are TrU stores all around the world, you know: https://www.toysrusinc.com/about-us/store-locator

Lester's Big Adventure Winners!
Exetrius replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I'm tempted to do more builds revolving around Lester, Johnny Thunder and OC Samuel Eon now. Although I think it's mostly due to procrastination, I'm sure there is a clear advantage in revealing them late. You will be more fresh in the memory and topic index once voting begins. And, as you have said, you have a more clear idea of the level of your rivals. Top-notch entries that are posted early can be an incentive to up the ante even further, creating a more interesting competition, but might also have the opposite effect if the quality displayed is completely out of reach of other's capabilities. What I wonder about: how much does good photography influence voting? Can you objectively appreciate a model regardless of how it's presented? -
Lester's Big Adventure Winners!
Exetrius replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Well, that wasn't too surprising, was it? Congratulations to kritch (awesome work, man!) and the other winners, and thanks everyone for participating! Thanks Peppermint_M for hosting! @Peppermint_M So, my doppelganger "Extrarius" won 3rd place? Nice one! You're not the first moderator to get my name wrong, though. Ecclesiastes featured me on frontpage as "Exentrius". I also remember someone called me "Exeterius". I tried to get a personalized printed brick at LEGO World Utrecht last year, but they misspelled it as "Extetrius"... People, stop putting extra letters in my name! E-X-E-T-R-I-U-S ... and put it under my avatar please. -

How in the world hasn't this been frontpaged yet!? Tremendous work! Amazing how it looks great while simultaneously incorporating numerous scenes! Makes me want to dive into the show, even! If I had to pick a favourite part of this MOC, it would be the square surrounded by the entrences, particularly the descending one is cool. And I love the springloaded shooters to mark the edges of the street. Wonderful, man! -
What is the single rarest and/or most expensive LEGO piece?
Exetrius replied to RunnersDad's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I experienced physical pain while reading this. Thankfully, history took a different course... What are you talking about? I don't see anything particularly rare or expensive in that set. -
Agreed. Besides, without doing a Google search, who is she anyway? A solo pilot, presumably British or American who flew around the world and crashed in the Pacific, whose plane is still missing, right? That's what comes to my mind. She wasn't in the my history books, that's for sure. I don't see why I would need to have her as a minifig, instead of a well-designed non-licenced pilot. I am strongly rooting for the Flintstones, although I only ever saw 2 episodes of that show, but it's very recognizable and we have had next to nothing from prehistoric humans in terms of sets. And that BMW has so much class! Hope they give it a good thought.

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Exetrius replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
^^This serves an acceptable explanation. ^It could work on an alien planet that has a similar climate and atmosphere as earth, but lacks oxygen or has a certain airborne chemical (which doesn't affect skin). A bit like diving: in shallow waters you opt for a suit that is more mobile and has a breathing apparatus, instead of a completely airtight deep sea diving suit. Other than that: mecha pilots and speeder bikers.- 991 replies
