  1. I think another UCS Falcon is a matter of when, not if. You might be waiting a while though. Its slightly modified appearance in the new trilogy is enough to justify a 'new' version, kinda like what they did by releasing the Red Five X-wing. I just hope that if they do they take on board some of the design cues from some awesome MOCs seen on this forum, which in some cases make the official version pale in comparison. There were rumors floating a couple of years ago of a re-release in late 2014-early 2015, of course they turned out to be just that; rumors. As for a UCS Star Destroyer I would think the Finalizer from TFA would be more likely. If you can afford to get the Imperial Shuttle I wouldn't hesitate. I can't see that getting a re-release for a very long time (if ever) and the price is moving rapidly into crazy money territory.
  2. I was inspired to do a similar thing when I saw your MOC and ended up with 4 x Battle on Takodana. The problem is now it's turning into a monster and I just dropped a small fortune on Bricklink and PaB to add size and detail as you say!
  3. Hey Daniel, I just wanted to give a shout out for sharing your model. My daughter and I are having a lot of fun with BB-8! Cheers mate
  4. 10212 UCS Imperial Shuttle. Everything about it. The build experience was amazing. I loved that the bags weren't numbered, just a massive amount of white pieces to sort. That feeling as it comes together and you get the sense of how huge it's going to be. And finally as a display piece it's just so majestic in all its SNOT glory!
  5. Stunning. Just stunning. There is some really creative greebling going on there. I can't wait to see more!
  6. No way...that's too funny for my immature brain Anyway my top five is: 1. Boba Fett, UCS Slave 1 (2015), favourite character and the pinnacle of minifig design and printing IMO. 2. C3PO chrome gold (custom), I love protocol droids and this one is the best replica I have. 3. Darth Vader with two piece helmet, Death Star Final Duel (2015), that helmet! 4. Boushh/Leia, Jabba's Palace (2012), great printing and helmet and one of my favourite scenes from ROTJ. 5. Shaak Ti, T-6 Jedi shuttle (2011), the head piece and colours just make it stand out on my wall display.
  7. The price/part metric is such a blunt tool. There are so many factors that determine the price of a set - number of large or complex molds, no. and detail of minifigs, licensing, etc. If you take Scorpus' price/part comparison of SW vs City sets on face value the only conclusion you could draw is that SW sets are generally better value than City ones, and that gap increases as the price increases based on those trendlines. I suspect that would suprise a lot of people based purely on the price/part complaints I see here. One would expect prices to rise naturally over time to reflect inflation and the associated increased costs in "doing business". I actually think TLG has done an admirable job keeping prices fairly stable over the past 10 years or so, particularly if you consider how much better sets are now than 10 years ago in terms of design and inventory of parts. I know the newer waves of SW sets have copped a fair amount of criticism over price but with the desirability of SW sets at a all time high due to the hype generated by TFA, Rebels etc I can't think of a better time to increase prices. That's not price gouging, it's good business practice.
  8. Don't worry, I know what you meant and I agree. I was being facitious regarding the underwhelming imperial "assault" force in the set. I probably should have made that more clear.
  9. Oversized? Judging by the formidable size of the rebel force they are about to encounter I think they are going to need an even bigger gun!
  10. My nine year old daughter would agree with the Lego MF as toy of the year. I think gender-specific categories should go the way of the dinosaur. Toy type categories such as dolls, construction toys etc would seem more appropriate (and probably exist). Toy companies will still market toys by gender regardless of awards. Even in many retailers I've been to Lego is segregated by "gender" ie. Friends, Elves and Disney Princess are in the dolls section and everything else is in the "boys" section.
  11. I've already expressed my overall negative sentiments towards this set. However, the firing mechanism on the ion canon is pretty cool, especially the recoil as it fires two shots.
  12. I think you'll find the battle of Hoth is the favourite scene of many on this forum who like to display diorama's, hence the large number of Hoth MOCs. The passionate negativity comes from what the set could have been. Where I live this set will be $400, a hell of a lot of money if you already own a snowspeeder (or more likely more) and a Wampa cave which was on market only a couple of years ago.
  13. I was expecting disappointment but that doesn't make it any easier to swallow. What were they thinking? It says it's modular but it's not, it's just a collection of various builds that don't interlock. The design is lazy with no real innovation. The shield generator is basically half round plates slapped together. The Wampa and cave looks just like the previous versions. Even though they don't show it on the box art that blast door looks all kinds of ugly from the rear with exposed technic pieces in technicolor. The "assault" aspect is terribly misrepresented as the imperials are only represented by two snow troopers and a speeder bike vs. a plethora of rebels. They should have dropped the Wampa scene altogether and included an AT-ST at the very least (AT-AT would be too many parts) to even up the battle. Let's not forget the rebels were overrun in this scene! Maybe it should have been called "Defense on Hoth". Color me disappointed but even the box art looks uninspiring compared to large and UCS sets of late; think Slave 1, Tie Fighter or in other themes...Ghostbusters HQ, Temple of Airjitsu.
  14. So it's official...yet another Snowspeeder to take up precious piece count. I would prefer a more substantial Echo base build and more minifigs, ala Ewok Village.
  15. I would have thought the rumoured Snowspeeder would have been the second half 2016 UCS release with the Death Star more likely 2017 post Rogue One release.
  16. That is so good! It definitely has a Mad Max vibe going on too as benderisgreat pointed out...which is cool.
  17. Yes to all of the above. But really, can you put a price on enjoyment, happiness and mental health?
  18. If many people have the part available in quantity then of course competition keeps the price low. I'm aware of basic economics. My point was if one (as you indicated), or very few, have a particular part in larger quantities then it inflates the price. I think this is the situation in which TLG are concerned about; individuals exploiting the PaB system for greed. Let me give you an example. Orange plate half round 3 x 6 with 1 x 2 cutout. It's a piece that is commonly used for BB-8 droid MOCs but is quite rare in released sets. It was available pre-Christmas from PaB for ~$0.35-0.40 USD and bricklink prices reflected this. PaB shut down mid Dec until end of January, The Force Awakens was released and demand for the piece increased. Suddenly bricklink prices are ~$10+ USD per piece and some did actually sell. One clown is even selling it with the tagline " make the droid of your dreams" and has the exact number of pieces needed for BB-8. Now if that's not exploitation, I don't know what is. TLG are happy to support people who need large quantities of a certain piece for their MOCs and they do place (rather generous) limits on quantities, even for rare and/or licenced ones. But surely you can see why they would want to avoid situations like the one I just described above?
  19. Your logic is little off there. I think you will find people who have a large inventory of rare parts on bricklink sell them at highly inflated prices compared to market value, knowing that there will always be people who filter by quantity and are prepared to pay a premium because they require x number of the same part.
  20. Neither. If you are looking at these purely for financial gain (ie. no emotional investment) I would go for sets that a) don't come in enormous boxes (storage = money) and b) are at or near their EOL. Certain modulars come to mind and historically most Star Wars sets increase post retirement. Ghostbusters HQ will do very well, now is not the right time to buy though. It could still be available @ retail in the 3 year timeframe you specify.
  21. As others have mentioned I think the key words you used are "unique" and licenced pieces. Everyone knows Sabine's helmet is highly desirable as it wasn't included in Ezra's speeder bike, the more affordable set she has appeared in. If you are trying to order licensed pieces in quantity it would red-flag you as a reseller. For MOCs large quantities of relatively uncommon pieces are often required. Like rollermonkey, I've found contacting TLG first and telling them what you require the parts for then they are actually very supportive as MOCs are at the heart of TLG's ethos. It sucks that you got blanket banned though, you should get a warning before it come to that!
  22. Will they be a threat? Highly unlikely given the market/ licensing and brand loyalty that Lego enjoys. Having said that I do get sick of so-called Lego purists who dismiss all Mega bloks as poor quality. I've made several of their Call of Duty Collector series sets and I've got to say the quality of those particular sets is very good. Anecdotally this does appear to be the exception though. They actually do some things better IMO eg. multicolored elements, matt (ie. not shiny) elements and a massive inventory of useful parts that I wish Lego would make like studded slopes, double sided studded slopes and more variety of odd stud length plates and bricks. I build a lot of Lego models but some of the techniques and connections used to construct the Mega Bloks sets are unique and suprised me in a good way.
  23. Can anyone confirm this as legit? I find it hard to believe they would have a 'premium' edition with all four polybags when pre-orders for the deluxe edition with Finn and a single ship polybag have gone live (at an already very premium price).
  24. Hehe...I love it!
