Yep. That's what I was referring to. It couldn't be much more blatant than that! Even selling the required number of plates. At least now we can all build the droid of our dreams for a reasonable price : )

Now that Lego Bricks and Pieces has re-opened after the break the orange half round plates are available directly for purchase in quantity and at retail price!

In Australia the deluxe edition is $109 from EB games so don't feel too hard done by. It does come with both the Finn polybag and FO Star Destroyer polybag though which for people like me is enough to go "damn it, I'm in". It's hard to know at this stage what the Finn polybag will cost to acquire on bricklink etc but I'm guessing it won't be cheap.

I own several of the 'helmeted' characters and I actually think they are pretty cool. Super posable and the helmet molds are fantastic.

Nice work. Now this is getting interesting! It's amazing how much better the official set could of been, instead of a token vignette to sell the minifigs. The plus side is that so many people are buying it just for the minifigs and selling off the set. I just picked up another set minus minifigs to do a similar thing. I'll be using Jabba's palace too and some parts from Duel on Geonosis. Have you considered adding a Maz Kanata statue?

The UCS Hype. What will 2017 bring? (40th Anniversary)
Markalus replied to Major_Ton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Whilst a re-release of the UCS Falcon would probably negatively impact the value of the original I can't see prices collapsing. The kind of collectors who are willing to pay 5K+ want the original, which undoubtedly will be magnitudes more rare. Having said that I think TLG needs to re-release the UCS Falcon to halt the continued meteoric rise in 'value' of the original. If the bubble did burst it might actually have a domino effect and spook investors. As much as I hate the practice of price gouging by resellers it does add perceived value to the brand. Without that I don't think we would be seeing so many awesome UCS and other AFOL orientated sets released by TLG. -

If you want "investment" advice, which is what the tone of post sounds like, then you are probably best to head over to brickpicker. I think most people here would disagree that Slave 1 doesn't look good. I may be biased (look at my avatar) but it is often at the top of "best sets of 2015" lists. It's also a much more satisfying build experience to the UCS Tie Fighter and certainly feels like you are getting better value for money. -
Haha, that's awesome! It looks like something Sabine Wren might approve of. Unikitty would also look pretty cool in the droid spot (like in Benny's spaceship) and appropriate given the number of parts you've used that are in Cloud Cuckoo Land. P.S. My 6 year old daughter just said "They should sell it, because people are going to love it". Now there's an endorsement : )

Nice work. I saw it displayed at Brickvention. I like the pic with Wicket...clearly not to bigfig scale ; ) My only "criticism" would be to try varying the technique a bit more on the trees, especially the tall skinny ones, to make them look more organic. I like how you've incorporated the bunker.

I totally agree. I'm hoping for an Interdictor cruiser (the one with the gravity well projectors) and the red prototype B-wing.

The UCS Hype. What will 2017 bring? (40th Anniversary)
Markalus replied to Major_Ton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It's human nature to celebrate milestones such as anniversaries. Would a 40th anniversary logo on the box influence my buying decision? No. However, it is an excuse to release something "special". By special I mean what others have speculated...an iconic ship/vehicle from a ANH. TLG have form in this area (ie. 10th anniversary of SW Lego logo). You also have to remember that a key to the success of marketing large and expensive UCS sets is nostalgia. I don't think it would be lost on the marketing team at TLG that there is a legion of nostalgic SW (and Lego) fans in their 40's who grew up with the original trilogy and have disposable income. As to your point about 40 being arbitrary and no more special than 35 years I respectfully disagree : ) -

First, welcome. Second, the question you ask is a vexed one and has been the source of much debate previously...see http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=97543 Third, this probably belongs in the general questions thread pinned at the top of page. I'm sure the MODs will move it for you soon enough : ) -
Nice work! I bought the set purely for the minifigs. Now I want to give it the MOC treatment. Several on here and elsewhere have done a similar thing with the Cantina...bought several of the same set or combined it with Jabba's palace to create a more grand diorama.

FYI, its not viable to bricklink BB-8 at this stage. There is only one person selling the orange plate, round half 3 x 6 with 1 x 2 cutout. 12 are needed and they want $12 USD per piece! Its a pretty key piece and not one you can readily color substitute. Would 3 x 3 round corner plates work instead? Bloody captive market. They were selling for ~$0.60-0.70 per piece a month ago. It's pretty obvious why the price has now skyrocketed!

Hey Daniel, I purchased the Dec. edition of Brick Journal as one of the main reasons was the instructions to your BB-8 MOC. My kids love BB-8 and I using this model to teach my daughter the wonders of bricklink ; ) We might give the other droids a go too after that as they look great together. I supported your mid-sized Droids Lego Ideas project. I agree the similar project should be disqualified but therein lies one of the issues with Lego Ideas! Thanks for making instructions to your MOCs available. Good luck with Ideas!

Exactly my thoughts. Classic Wayne Manor in the style of GBHQ would have been epic. Whilst most of the action occurred in the study and the the Batcave they could have used creative license for the other rooms. Wayne manor was an attractive building and would look great in Lego form. This set is clearly aimed at nostalgic AFOLs, and displaybility of the set as it stands is pretty poor IMO.

DC Super Heroes - 76052 Batman™ Classic TV Series - Batcave
Markalus replied to CopMike's topic in LEGO Licensed
I understand your point about Lego having emotional worth, after all that's why we are all on this forum! But I disagree about not putting a price on it. Of course you can. Most people have to rationalize in this way so that they can afford other things...like food. It's a very valid notion that people "financially plan" or budget their Lego purchases, particularly with the ever increasing rate that TLG are releasing highly desirable sets! The "value" that someone places on a particular set or sets is very subjective, hence the discussion. Metrics such as a price/piece have long been used by Lego fans to help determine value but factors such as licensing, number of minifigs and number of large or complex pieces, and of course, emotional worth or in this case nostalgia are also considered. If you re-read you post I hope you can see why it is inflammatory and might offend other Lego fans on this topic. Your attitude seems to be "shut up and take my money" which makes for a great internet meme but it's not reality for most people. -

It may depend on where you live. Where I am (Austraila) local Lego resellers have had both of those two sets as their exclusive sets in annual sales at a small discount of 5-10% off rrp for the past two years. However, if you really want them I wouldn't wait as either could retire at any stage and the price will skyrocket once they do. Lego S@H will not discount them prior to retirement. Ewok village is older and with two new rumored UCS playsets expected this year I would get that one first. -
DC Super Heroes - 76052 Batman™ Classic TV Series - Batcave
Markalus replied to CopMike's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think they have done a pretty good job of recreating the look of the Batcave. I wish they had used some dark bley in the rocky part of the cave and better represented the heavy foliage of the secret entrance and included a sliding door but alas. It's kinda an odd one too in that as a display piece for AFOLs it's pretty ugly (and impractical height) but I can't really see too many parents buying it for their kids as a playset either at that price. -
I don't think the number of pieces of seal tape is any indication. Mine only had two pieces of tape and it was the "fixed" version with ball joint. The instructions have been reprinted and the "new" parts were not in separate bags. The neck is very sturdy. Production units could vary by region though...I'm in Australia which comes via European distribution.

The UCS Hype. What will 2017 bring? (40th Anniversary)
Markalus replied to Major_Ton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Being the 40th anniversary of ANH my money would be on at least one UCS set from the original. Personally I'm hoping for a new UCS Millennium Falcon. With nostalgia at an all time high and its appearance in the TFA I think the problem would be production keeping up with demand. An round/square interchangeable communications array would be nice and include appropriate minifigs from ANH and TFA...one can dream anyway : ) -
[MOC] Millennium Falcon - Still the coolest spaceship!
Markalus replied to marshal_banana's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Holy crap that is beyond anything I've seen. Congratulations Marshal, it is a masterpiece. TLG please take notes! -
I would happily pay $350 USD for a UCS carbon freezing chamber that looked remotely like the one from Markus : ) It's such an iconic scene deserving of this level of love from TLG.

IMO TLG could release an updated UCS 10179 at pretty much any price point they wanted and it would be a huge success. As others have pointed out SW Lego popularity is through the roof at the moment and between hardcore fans with disposable income and opportunistic "investors" the biggest problem would be laying hands on one. Higher cost of production and freight may mean lower profit margins for TLG than "regular" sets but that's not the point. As a flagship iconic set its the one almost every kid and adult alike covets and draws them to the Lego and SW brand.
