  1. Don't forget they like to plan sets well in advance of when they are released. I think some members of the general lego-buying public think they design the new sets after the current sets have been released but it's I think about a year and a half between project design until it's released. (I'm sure someone can give more acurate info here.) That extra few months when prelim images are going around the net gives TLG some precious extra time to do a free bit of research for future sets.
  2. to be fair we don't know officially that the other two aren't getting any more sets yet. I think we all need to be patient and see what happens. Having said that, patience and AFOLs rarely go hand in hand do they.
  3. I think it's a special edition!
  4. Hi guys, i know this isn't the right place to post this probably but there is only 2 hours left on the auction so i thought i would post it to where it's most visible. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lego-super-star-destroyer-/150658577307?pt=UK_Construction_Toys_Kits&hash=item2313f3739b
  5. i won't let my children ever watch Temple of Doom, not because it's too dark but because it's total crap! I tried watching the PotC 4 film three times whilst on a lengthy flight to Dubai and fell asleep everytime. I thought it was awful. Characters were rubbish, even Jack Sparrow. The only thing that made the film bearable was the the awesome Geoffrey Rush. If any film was worthy of a license then lotR ticks the boxes, great films. As i've said previously i'd love to see the theme but just don't see it happening, especially on the scale Elander would like to see.
  6. TRU have got 20% off top toy brands this weekend only, all lego is included. Must print off downloadable voucher.
  7. Surprisingly i've heard the same thing. What you have to remember though is that TLG have placed a lot of sets with retailers but almost all retailers have been selling these sets very early on at hugely discounted rates. This means it;s them that are not making the profit they would like on the sets not TLG. so TLG may think it;s shifted well initially but if the retailers are not making their profit margin then they won't take future listings for these lines. The proof will be in how long the line continues.
  8. You're right Fred, EB is usually a good place to have a rational discussion where people don't get too emotional. (Well maybe with t he exception of the SW forum! ) Actually one of the biggest obstacles would probably be in obtaining the license itself, there is so much wrangling between different parties over the rights to these films that it may be difficult for TLG to get it. I doubt they pay a great deal for licenses so I wouldn't expect that to be an issue but who do they pay?? I will just raise one other issue that I think could be a small factor. The SW theme has been a staple range of the toy universe for thirty years now and still going strong. When they released action figures from the LOTR films they were an abyssmally poor seller unfortunately. This is by no means an indicator it won't happen because the HP action figs don't do a lot better and neither did POTC but it could be another factor in the release being limited in the number of sets and waves. Don't get me wrong though, I'd love to see this theme happen. Just don't think it will.
  9. This is a really nice MOC, love the playset feel to it. You could try building it up like the death star and having more levels.
  10. But how well is the castle theme actually doing? no listings in the Argos catalogue in the UK, none in tescos and none in TRU! Castles is a poor seller and TLG don't seem to put much effort into it, times have moved on and kids now are into different things. I loved castles and mythology when I was a kid but kids are not so into it now. And with castles Lego has a lot of very stiff competition from companies like Playmobil and Schleich who offer more realistic playsets. Have there been any licenses that have not features a lot of vehicles? SW, HP, Indy, Batman?
  11. Sorry Fred but anyone who thinks the idea of TLG not liking to base their sets around a lot of vehicles is talking rubbish. HP had 3 versions of the Hogwarts Express, 2 versions of the barely seen Knight Bus. Batman was littered with vehicles when the comics aren't. SW is almost entirely a vehicle range supplemented by minifigs. The police and fire themes in City are always redone with vehicles even when they don't need updating look at all the trains TLG currently has available! LotR is not a vehicle firendly theme. Brickbuilt Nazgul and Ents and Mumakil are a great idea but will be expensive to make in an as yet unproven theme. Lego is a boys toy and boys love cars, and spaceships and trains. They don't want to race around Gandalfs cart. Yes I'm putting up obstacles but they are most definately not bunk!
  12. Yes i couldnt remember the names of their respective races. It would be good because then all the MOCers could use them in various other sets too.
  13. I think Jabbas palace would more likely include characters like Squid-head, Reeyees, and Klaatu than 4-Lom and Zuckus although I think everyone would like to see them make an appearance. The palace really needs to be done but i dont think we'll see it at that price tag. They seem to reserve those prices for big UCS ships and vehicles. I'd go for:- Jabba's palace Jabba, Leia (slave girl), Luke (not because I'd want him but I think they would throw him in), 2 x Gamorrean guards, Reeyees, Squidhead, Rancor, Rancor keeper. C3PO and Bib Fortuna. RRP £149.99
  14. Some of these ideas are very good but the problem is these ideas call for a lot of sets and look at how many PotC has had? It all comes down to how much of the lego demographic are LOTR fans and compared to SW I think it's nowhere near. SW has the cartoon and this is whats keeping it so relevant. TLG will not plan that many sets in advance of playsets that didnt see much action (lothlorien and the Golden hall). Sorry to be so negative again but I just don't see this line making sense in the format we would like to see it. If it did happen then the only sets I could see from the LOTR films being made would be Wethertop (Frodo, Sam, Aragorn and 2 Wraiths) Khazad-dum (Gandalf, Balrog) Helms deep (Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Theoden, 2 Uruk-Hai) Bag end (Gandalf, Frodo, bilbo) Shelobs lair (Shelob, Frodo, Sam, Gollum) This would be a possible 1st wave
  15. yes i suppose with licensed sets the normal rules dont apply so rigidly. I'd love to see this happen but only if they do it justice. Could be massive!
  16. HP may not have many vehicles but the express was released 3 times and even the Knight Bus has had 2 releases with little screen time. They even used the Durmstrang ship. It would be excellent to see Brickbuilt large beasts but as i mentioned earlier, the Rancor has never been done and that is part of TLG's biggest license. The Hoth wampa, dewback and Jabba were all done as moulds and I think TLG seem to adopt this route. I'd love to see LotR in Lego form but I'm skeptical that it fits in with what they are looking for in a license.
  17. I think the biggest problem with this line is how you replace the much loved vehicle concept behind most lines with large scale monsters. Would they really do Shelob like Aragog in the Hagrids Hut set? They've never done a Rancor so would they really do a Fell Beast or a Balrog mould? What about the Ents or the Mumakil? That's a lot of money being spent on tooling for brand new moulds, they would have to commit to the line for the long haul to know it's going to be profitable. The more I think about this line the less I see it happening.
  18. You need the invisible man for the best joke!
  19. It's first and foremost a boys playtoy so a vehicle is a must!
  20. I don't think they are looking to replace POTC, they have enough licensed themes to carry on with for the moment. A LOTR range would be fantastic but I just don't see it happening.
  21. They'll redo anything that will sell and entice a new generation of lego SW collectors. I doubt anything really needs remaking. It's more to do with re-releasing sets that are iconic. how many more Falcons, X-Wings, Tie-Fighters and AT-ATs will we see before the doors close? My guess is at least one or two more of each.
  22. Very nice, really like this. it has such a great feel because it looks like an official set.
  23. Great MOC and fantastic pictures too. Really nicely done. The black skeletons may not be entirely acurate but there are a lack of credible "Gollum" looking characters in the LEGO minigif world.
  24. I definately dont think its too violent. Also Lord of the Rings is part of the great literary tradition and as such is viewed as exempt from being too violent in much the same way as the Grimm fairy tales. I don't think it will happen but if it is then I think it's a sign that the LEGo group is seeing their future as being more closely tied to licenses products than anything else. POTC instead of pirates, LOTR instead of castle. SW is now the main theme.
  25. You are way too balanced to be an AFOL!! Nice sentiments and it's very commendable what you do but my boy is almost 5 now and some of his friends have started coming over. I'm in a quandary about what to do regarding the LEGO sets. There are some nice big displays in my sons room that i would hate to see torn apart. My wife asked me once if I would give some lego to a relative (his parents have more money than us but don't have my lego addiciton), I flatly refused.
