Wacky and Weird Locomotive Challenge!

One could argue that Brickarms or Brickforge are complementary, as opposed to an attempt to compete for market share....but that's a debate for another forum topic. Could the above rule please be clarified....thanks LLL -

What is purist? Thoughts...
Luke_likes_Lego replied to Batbrick(Nightwing)'s topic in General LEGO Discussion
Ummmm, you've asked your question "what is purist" in a LEGO fan site, so it's reasonable to treat the question in the context of LEGO (as opposed to, say, 'Plastic brick construction"). From the member guidelines: "Remember: Eurobricks is a LEGO fan site, thus we want most topics here to be LEGO related. If you find you are posting mostly non-LEGO topics then maybe you have picked the wrong site. (Just to clarify, M%g^ Bl&ks aren't LEGO....)" What is it exactly you are asking / putting forward for discussion? Is it about plastic brick modelling or about lego modelling? How would you define purist yourself? Cheers, LLL -
Hope this isn't straying off topic too far...but here's what works for me: SMALL: One of the national electronic chains (here in Aus.) has some little drawers (5x4) MEDIUM: Cheap storage bins that stack or go on racks... from hardware store - that look a bit like this: LARGE: Some storage tubs with lids from the $1 shop LLL

You're right of course....but people seem to love talking about it !! ...and if you sold/bought something as, for example, as "100% 'pure' LEGO". Ideally, buyer and seller expectations would match. LLL -

Some interesting takes so far! I tend to think of this using cars as an analogy as customisation is common, and often obvious...so easier for my overworked brain Some thoughts: If Brand X motor vehicle company hired a new designer, I wouldn't consider vehicles/parts created by Brand X before or after the designer's tenure as different in terms of purism If Brand X motor vehicle company hired a new designer, I would consider vehicles/parts created by Brand X before or after the designer's tenure as different in terms of whether I liked them more or less If a non Brand X designer, starts working for Brand X I wouldn't consider vehicles/parts created before or after the designer's tenure (or on weekends during their tenure) as genuine Brand X If a Brand X motor vehicle has a Brand Y bonnet I would think a 'purist' would want to replace it with a genuine part If a Brand X motor vehicle was pulled to pieces and rebuilt in a new form I wouldn't say it was a genuine Brand X car (whether by a highly talented designer or a poor designer) If a Brand X motor vehicle was pulled to pieces and rebuilt in a new form I would say it was a car made of genuine Brand X pieces If a Brand X motor vehicle part (element) was modified in an irreversible way, I wouldn't consider it a purist Brand X part any more If a Brand X motor vehicle part (element) was modified in an irreversible way, I would potentially see it as a positive thing, despite being non-purist I wouldn't consider a car with decals on the doors to be non-genuine I'm sure many motor vehicle purists still enjoy customisations, modifications, murals and decals that enhance some models...they just don't do it themselves I guess. Is LEGO different? Personally I don't think so. Like cars, I don't want to see something rare and beautiful desecrated, nor do I want to see the great talent of customisers suppressed for the sake of preserving something commonplace. Cheers, LLL -

Hi Werlu, Hmmm....reading your post, I would say: 2) Use the train motor and possibly get more space in the loco though with maybe less power and the need to fiddle with the drive wheel gears because it sounds better for you. They both have their Pros and cons, but the engineer and furnace sound important to you. Incidentally, where do people put the IR receiver in this solution....still in the engine (per XL instructions)? Or on top of the battery/tender combo? I like the idea of being able to disconnect the tender from the engine, which you can't do with the XL solution or the IR in engine solution, without disconnecting wires. Cheers, LLL

Hi Snowspeeder Pilot, I think Calabar's answer applies to Lego Digital Designer (LDD) Dhivael's to real bricks 'n' studs. Anyway, if it's the skinny wheeled bicycle you're talking about, I think you'll have more luck with a: 1x2 (Radiator) Grille / Tile, Modified 1 x 2 Grille among the tiles. The tyre should fit snugly nicely, but not too tightly between the fins. Good luck, LLL

Hi Rykeer, Here are a couple of other ideas....but I don't think all the parts come in brown/reddish brown and pickles...hmmm ...the ice cream scoops come in green...not overly close to pickles though....from a distance you'd have a cart of green round looking things!! Cheers, LLL -
Hi Electricsteam, The 1x1 brick is from Target stores promotional sets. Eg.: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=4620157-1 There seem to be 300+ available on Bricklink Was the Mint Green different to the "Medium Green" on Bricklink? Cheers, LLL

So PF, is it of any use for realistic operation?
Luke_likes_Lego replied to Locomotive Annie's topic in LEGO Train Tech
What I like about the way you started this thread is that it sums up how (I think) we all should approach the question of: PF vs. 9V vs 12V vs VHS vs Beta etc. ie. they're all different, each have their Pros and Cons.....but you've chosen the one the one that works for you. I've moved from 12V to PF as I like the remote 'wirelessness', the cheaper cost and enjoy the challenge of trying to make things fit .....and begrudgingly cop the loss of space, inability to de-couple due to battery connections and a cornucopia of rechargeable batteries ....but that's just me. One of my favourite things about 9V and 12V is that a PF can run on them without conversion ... can't say that about my precious PF!! Cheers, LLL
