  1. ShaydDeGrai, thanks for saving me typing...I think you said almost everything I was going to say. The extra advice I would add is - when you are explaining to non-AFOL's, include your honest opinions that are behind the statement "I love Lego and often buy things I really just wanna play with myself". Only you know the answer to these....for me (in no particular order) it would be: great fun; a flexible, forgiving way of modelling (ie no glue etc); inter-generational; good value (even though not necessarily cheap); I think I understand where you're coming from though, despite all the echoes of "who cares what others think", I think most of us wouldn't want to feel like they were being 'labelled' negatively in others' perception. It bugs me slightly that if I spent money and time on (say) golf and not on LEGO, it wouldn't raise the slightest eyebrow. If a businessman wants to invite customers/suppliers for a 'golf day' or a 'sailing day'.....the marketing department might agree and direct some extra money toward it. Would the reaction be the same for a 'poker day' or 'LEGO day'? Of course not - it's down to social/corporate norms, not down to golf being better than poker or a sail ride better than LEGO. In otherwords, some things are considered culturally "middle of the road" and some ain't. Unfortunately LEGO ain't***....but that's not going to stop me!!!!!! Cheers, Luke ***I wonder if it's the same in Denmark?
  2. Hi Sand, I know it's none of my business , but is removing printing necessary? Wouldn't it be nicer to get some plain torsos to start with, and then apply your custom transparencies? Prices for a torso are about $0.75-$0.80AUD Wouldn't like to see a printed part rendered irreversible (even if it's one of those airport tops that I seem to have way too many of ). Cheers, LLL
  3. Safety first !! (Always wear a helmet when you're 'cycling') LLL Rejected gags: 1) This isn't the LEGO 'Front Loader' I meant...try 8265: 2) Is this what they meant by spending some time on the 'spin cycle'? ... PS. Nice build
  4. In my experience, there's no such thing as luck. That's good. You have taken your first step into a larger world. Welcome btw !! You are in the right place....having a paddle around the forums should satisfy your thirst for " tips, tricks, ideas and a bit of a thought exchange" LLL
  5. Hi BMC, My advice is to politely ask them again. Bricklink stores range from professional businesses to mild hobbyists, so you never know when a family event or something unexpected might break their stride. They have answered your email, so that's a good sign. If you lose patience, or are getting nervous about dealing with a slow responder, let them know you'd like to set a deadline for an invoice or withdraw your order. Most Bricklink sellers I've come across go out of their way to give good service so hopefully it will work out for you in the end:-) Cheers, LLL
  6. The boogie plates sound interesting.....makes those trains dance baby!!! :D :D LLL
  7. Ooops! ...should've taken the time to watch the vid. Nice work once again. Look forward to more of the work of Adamskii! LLL
  8. ...another thing to bear in mind when you finish sorting it out is the accuracy of the description in ebay. Like most people who've posted above, I'm happy to turn a blind eye to a few apparently accidental 'stowaways' in a LEGO lot. ....but if the description is reasonably definite, eg "100% LEGO, triple checked personally by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen" , and it turns out to be 40% megab**ks, then you should take it up with the seller....many sellers will be genuinely apologetic and perhaps give you a partial refund. Cheers, LLL
  9. Great build  .....my only suggestion for your post is to add a pic of the real deal to show what a great job you've done reproducing it in six studs!! Here's one from Great Southern Rail: http://www.greatsout...han_gallery.jsp Cheers, LLL
  10. Welcome dmiracle, There's a post here that has lots of layouts: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=31989 A lot might be bigger that 4'x8', but hopefully some good inspiration Lego has a track designer that might interest you -it handles flexi-track: http://www.lego.com/...s/track-planner A lot of the LEGO train enthusiasts (including me) like Alban Nanty's Bluebrick for design & plan of more detailed layouts (http://bluebrick.lswproject.com/). Good luck, have fun....and let us know if you've any more q's. Cheers, LLL
  11. ...are you sure? Next you'll be saying the same thing about taxi drivers and taxidermy?
  12. Thanks JopieK....I think that might be my best bet. LLL
  13. Yeah...and Astronomy should be Astronautomy......
  14. Hi all, I've asked once before with no luck, but rather than bump my old topic ... Does anyone please have a contact for Xavier V who submitted the design for the Horse Stock Car in Railbricks issue #3? Any leads or help appreciated. Thanks, LLL
  15. Just wondering....is it : Ninjargo. (how I do it) Ninja go (how my wife does it) Ninyargo (?) I searched around ...but couldn't find a consensus. Cheers, LLL
  16. Can't speak for zephyr1934, but it's possible he's referring to the sorts of things this thread is about: http://www.eurobrick...ues#entry1717013 LLL
  17. I think it would be hard to go wrong with the EN....even if you pay today's market prices. It will always be a classic. I remember thinking I was paying over par for it at about $139US because there were cheaper ones on BL at the time.....of course looking back I'll never regret that. If you love it, and knew you could easily sell it again in an emergency (such as running out of food) the price may not be a factor for you. Having said all that......haven't bitten the bullet and bought a Super Chief (or -off theme- a UCS Millenium Falcon) myself Cheers, LLL
  18. Hi Paul B, I tend to defer to car collection as an analogy. If you take an original Ford Fairlane XP-blah and add a Ford built super charger....I guess it's now a custom Ford, but it's no longer a Fairlane XP-blah Analogy = adding PF to 8110 means it's not 8110 anymore but it's still a 100% genuine LEGO modified 8110 Now, to your question... If you now take a Ford wheel flare, and modify it - 'cause you had it handy at the time and didn't want to source the exact one - then attach it to your custom Ford from above: - I don't think anyone would argue it's no longer a Ford - most would say it's a 'custom' Fairlane XP-blah - you wouldn't be able to sell it as pure Ford, or pure Fairlane XP-blah.....but you could go close Is it pure? No Is it LEGO? Sorta' Is it customised LEGO? Yep Does it matter that much if you're happy, having fun and the mod'ed piece isn't particularly rare? No way! Cheers, LLL
  19. Of course....how could I forget that...should be my No. 1 LLL
  20. Hmmm....nice topic...... ----------------------------------- 1. Create a 'classic space' space-scape 2. Rebuild my layout with some undulating topography (flat as a pancake at the moment) 3. Try out Mindstorms 4. Own a Millenium Falcon 10179 (least likely to happen ) 5. Pass my LEGO - and appreciation of it - to my kids
  21. That's no ordinary rabbit. That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on! That rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer! That rabbit's dynamite LLL
  22. Just choose 'By Shop' in the second row of tabs under 'Wanted' (to the right of 'My Wanted List') You can even switch different lists on/off It will display the shop names (hyperlinks) and the number of lots in your selected wanted lists. Cheers, LLL I would agree that's excellent advice. My only other hint (which I'm not very good at doing myself ) is - be patient - if you can build up multiple wanted lists for multiple projects, you can hopefully cut down on postage in the long term. Happy shopping, LLL
  23. It's got my vote ! LLL
