  1. Howdy, Anyone know where to get a Town Hall (modular) or Palace Cinema in Tas? Cheers, LLL
  2. ...that would have sucked. Cute castle though....would you still consider getting one? LLL
  3. Nice one! FD not 'til September here in Aus...but I might show my wife your post closer to the day as a not so subtle hint LLL
  4. Is that a trick / test comment? 1999 seems to be the first 'gap' in the line of castle sets since 1982. LLL
  5. When you accidentally say: "CAREFUL!! IT'S NOT A TOY" to your children when they grab the minifigs off your collectable set.
  6. Lets hope not. I don't know why, but I kinda like that.
  7. Hello again, I've been tinkering around - and come up with a modular design that might be the one. The design: is modular, so can grow with the display area is simple, just one opening frame allows for corners by having a 'frosted' side Now, to decide how to build it Cheers, LLL
  8. A technic axle Pin (without Friction Ridges) might work too...if not too 'frictionsome'. * * * * * * * * * * Anyway, back to your question... The talented Jeramy Spurgeon has an article here that might be useful for you: http://railbricks.co...nctions-primer/ where he seems to have some success using a toothpick. If you do damage it, at least you know it could be replaced, and likely improved upon, from his article Cheers, LLL
  9. I've heard of people cutting it to connect single straight (eg 12V) rails to RC track. ie (please excuse my rough attempt at a diagram ) Not really a fan of permanently modifying LEGO myself, but I can see the merit here. Cheers, LLL
  10. I wish I could answer that there was just one . Unfortunately so many... Grand Carousel UCS Millenium Falcon Cargo Train Deluxe Tower Crane Town Plan (10184) Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) GP-38 Locomotive Diesel Shunter Locomotive Holiday Train Remote Controlled Signal 12v (7860) AT-AT Santa Fe Super Chief Steam Engine (7750) Sorry to not answer your question, but I had trouble even narrowing it to a top twelve. :cry3: LLL
  11. I don't really follow your argument... Why would anyone (generally) allow advertising for a competitor? It's not a sensible point. Anyway .... we both agree that it's nice that Bricklink hasn't gone down a heavy advertising path...so let's hope it stays that way. Cheers, LLL
  12. Something I love about Bricklink is the absence of: banner ads toolbar ads geo-locating display ads shop ads (eg. Bricklink shops buying home page advertising space) etc. I hope this doesn't change. The interface and security might need an upgrade, but I hope the purity of the pages stays 'old school'. LLL
  13. Respect I guess if they're never going to be used otherwise, it's a good form of recycling. LLL
  14. What's the alarm tone? "you may dispense with the pleasantries sleepyhead, I am here to put you back on schedule"? "I find your lack of conciousness disturbing" ? "The snooze is strong with this one" ? "I want you awake, not excuses" ? "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the snooze button"? "WAKEUP!!, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son"?
  15. Malevolence !!! Crime against LEGO LLL
  16. I tend to agree when it comes to minifigs...... Not sure about sets though......depends on the definition of 'better' ? (is a brick built model better than a pre-fab'd, but more realistic one?.....but that's another topic). ...and to undo all of the above, I think the 2009 chrome black vader is kinda cool LLL
  17. Hello, Try the Yellow pages - toy and hobby shops - in your area. Cheers, LLL
  18. Hi BrickG, I would be very careful not to risk taking the enjoyment out of your hobby....consider whether you want a situation that - every time you do get a chance to shop for LEGO - you are doing so with dollar $ign$ in your eyes. Back to your question.... If there was a formula that guaranteed high return on investment, in a reasonable time period - it wouldn't just be LEGO enthusiasts considering it - so there will always be risk....but there are plenty of worse ways to risk your money. My experience, not just in LEGO, is that when I've bought things I've loved - they're easy to sell later. When I've bought beyond my needs (anyone want some #35 Danco o-rings for their train wheels?? ), I'm still sitting on them. My Cargo plane's value was getting silly...but now LEGO are releasing a new Cargo plane which may settle the price on the old one down a bit. I'm not bothered about it though, because I wouldn't want to part with my original. I'd hate to be fuming - over something completely out of my control - in this situation. If I was going to go down that road, I'd consider used sets that I could enjoy and display in the holding period. Try to keep enjoying it - one of the reasons it's an expensive hobby is 'cause it's so COOL!!!! LLL
  19. Yes, but not in my state unfortunately ...they have some nice looking display cases. Can't get pastic here either....we're still stuck with old-fashioned plastic Goal = Have a cool looking display..... has to look good from a distance as well as close up...therefore lighting essential, so low height not a problem. Thanks Andy (I was afraid of that!) LLL
  20. Hi All, At the moment I have my town/train layout at table/counter height on my "table top" (cheap 'doors' from the hardware store), mounted on sawhorses and mismatching racks that I've built. My dream way of displaying my LEGO, would be to replace everything underneath the table tops with uniform cabinetry, something like this: The display could then be used for things that don't fit the theme on the table top (eg if tabletop = town/train, display could be space, star wars, architecture, VWs or whatever you happen to be into). I was wondering, has anyone found a reasonably affordable way to achieve something like this? Glass cabinetry for shopfitting etc. seems so expensive. Cheers, LLL
  21. It's not fantastic, it's not amazing........ it's amazingly amazing All the credit above - and more - is well deserved. Those little details make it so good. LLL
  22. cheer up....there's always a state worse off than yours (and we don't even have a DJ's or a TRU) No !!?!? Cheers, LLL
  23. Hi SNIPE, Some hinges might do the trick for the sides: Top bricks should be easy enough from there. Cheers, LLL
  24. oops! (thanks) I interpreted: "Brickus is that price if you buy 2 sets at a time" as a statement. Eg. "Myer is that price if you buy 2 sets at a time" and thought there was maybe a new online LEGO store called "Brickus" ....need to learn to read properly!! Anyway, picked up a couple of the small friends sets at the 'buy one get 60% off the second' today. Cheers, LLL
  25. Hi, Sorry for noob'ish Q, but who/what is Brickus? Couldn't find anything that seemed to fit on the net Thanks, LLL
