Lego Re-releases - What would you like to see?

Thanks. Didn't know that. And it makes sense. One ingested magnet should be fine, but two or more might be a whole other story. -

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ReplicaOfLife replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Yep, thanks. The pointlessness of the laundromat section of BB is only topped by the upper two floors of the blue building from DO. But contrary to those, the laundromat doesn't even look too good. This idiotic strategy of adding pseudo-buildings to the modulars really needs to stop. Either do it right, like in the Pet Shop or (almost - they were one shared staircase away...) in Assembly Square, or don't do it at all. To be honest, I haven't even built the Brick Bank yet. I actually really like the look of the bank facade, but the laundromat just put me off. Luckily, I noticed recently that one of the spaces I use to diplay my modulars is actually wide enough to fit 88studs. So far, it houses two full buildings (GG & GE) and one half of Pet Shop, but once I'm done designing my next MOC I'll finally open the BB and will build a 24 wide, non-corner MOD from it. No laundromat, no wide chimney, but three full stories. Should be quite a cool building then. -

*lol*@"Ninjago City is the 2018 modular" I'm sorry, but that's by far the least likely and most ridiculous theory we've had in this thread yet. That's like saying the Lego Movie cars and vehicles were the next years City vehicles, just released early to coincide with the movie -

We definitely need more pitched roofs! -
Great work as usual! Exceptional representation of this loco in Lego form. But if I may just add some nerd-knowlegde: Actually, 05 003 never looked like this, as it used to be cab-forward prototype. The firebox was at the front of the locomotive, too, which required it to be fired with coal dust, which never really worked. When the streamlining was removed, it was also turned around and rebuilt as a regular locomotive But i suspect you propably already knew this, since you correctly mentioned the year it was rebuilt, and also built the loco with regular trailing axles (the two other lcoos of this type had a bogie housing the rear trailing axles). Here's a picture of 05 003 as a streamlined, cab-forward locomotive:

Lego Re-releases - What would you like to see?

Excluding the monorail stuff, since that's never going to happen: Emerald Night Mission Commander from Space Police I Mega Core Magnetize from M-Tron But I don't think we'll see rereleases f really old sets - not only did they change the color palette, but they also discontinued lots of olderparts, most importantly the clicky hinges. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ReplicaOfLife replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
A re-release of an old modular would be fine with me as long as we also get a new one. I have all the modulars that interest me (-> all they made safe for Market Street and Town Hall), so I have no urgent need for a re-release. My CC and sand-blue GG are bricklinked, but that only makes them all the more precious to me. I'd propably get the re-released one anyway, even if only as a parts bag. -
Death of Lego Investing? Rerelease of Taj Mahal
ReplicaOfLife replied to Doom2099's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yep, I also think that part of the reasoning behind this is L***n bootlegging those rare and sought-after sets. And who knows, it might at least give the people that would love to buy the original thing, but don't have a four-digit sum of money to spare some pause before pulling the trigger on that chinese crap. As for Lego losing sales to resellers, well, yeah, that might happen, but this is way too hypothetical for my taste, especially as we don't have any actual numbers to support either claim. I just think that in this case and similar ones, it is better for us fans to have the opportunity to buy these sets agaim directly from Lego instead of having to rely on after-market resales at higher prices. And as long as there are collectors, there will be people stopping collecting and putting their collection up for sale. Iconic sets will propably be more expensive after they retired for a long, long time, but that's just the way it is. Lego can't keep all the thousands of sets they ever made in stock/production. So if they occasionally re-release an old set that has incredibly high-demand, that helps all those that want to have it. And that's a good thing. -
Death of Lego Investing? Rerelease of Taj Mahal
ReplicaOfLife replied to Doom2099's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yep. You talk about this as if it's a bad thing. But the only ones getting hurt, as you said, are those that hog sets to sell them later at a highly inflated price. I know Lego has been viewed as an investment opportunity by many. But that's their bad luck. I personally absolutely don't care at all if someone who planned to sell an original, mint in sealed box Taj Mahal for an outlandish sum got screwed over by this. On the contrary! I applaud Lego. As I said in the modular buildings discussion thread: While I generally prefer new sets, I'd much rather see Lego getting more money out of their own old designs then some scalpers, or even worse (L***n...). Why? Simple: More money for Lego means they'll be able to continue to create and release new exciting sets. More money for some scalper does not. In fact, them hoarding rare sets makes it harder for real fans to get those sets. -

ReplicaOfLife replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Taj Mahal: OK. Doesn't really do much for me. It's a pretty cool set from the looks of it, but just doesn't interest me on a personal level. The fact that it's a re-release is perfectly fine with me. While I generally prefer new sets, I'd much rather see Lego getting more money out of this then some scalpers, or worse (like megablocking* L***n...). But I really hope they don't overdo it with all these giant sets. I feel they may oversaturate the market with lots of big releases like this. On the other hand, I'm propably not the target audience for most of them, since I don't see myself spending 300€ or more for a single set anytime soon. Even Assembly Square felt expensive, but it had a great parts count and is a modular, so it was ok. But the other two I might consider getting (Ghostbuster HQ and Ninjago City) don't do nearly enough for me to actually pull the trigger - especially as they would be stand-alone pieces that don't really fit in with the rest of my collection. * Edit: The forum changed the four-letter f-word to "megablocking" there. Since when does it do that? -

Town Hall and Grand Emporium also retired in the same year, even within weeks of each other... So, no. If something like that had happened, I'm very sure we would've seen a corresponding screenshot somewhere, or someone at least would've posted the set name & price. But dammit, if we'll get a January 1/2 release, this must be the longest they managed to keep a lid on things. Just tell us already, Lego! -
Whenever I don't feel like building something, I don't build something. Forcing myself to do something I don't feel like will just make me unhappy. Lego is a hobby, after all, no one, including myself, gets to force me to put time into it if I don't feel lik it. As for wanting to build spomething, but not knowing what...hasn't happened to me yet, but I guess if I wanted to build something really badly, but didn't have any idea, I'd just start fiddling around with some parts. But usually, if I have one or several projects going on, and don't feel like working on any of them, I just go and do something else entirely.

I've never had any close-up experience with the Galaxy Commander, but just from the pictures, I vastly prefer the Galaxy Explorer. There are several reasons for this: - I'm no friend of twin cockpit designs - I'm a visual person, and the Explorer just wins here. The Commander suffers from something that a lot of the big, modular spaceships suffered from: While the modularity was great for play, it diminuished the overall look of the designs. There often were bulky parts that were intended to be left behind as bases or something, that made the complete build look, well, bulky and somewhat jumbled together. Often, you'd find pieces at locations that did not make any sense in the full build. Galaxy Commander, for example, has two big rocket engines right behind the cockpits...pointing right at the weird module that holds the base, most likely scorching it to hell! Whoops! - Speaking of that...what's that rear section of Galaxy Commander for, except fo holding the base module? When all is combined, it just looks awkward with the big supports strutting out from underneath (which also look as if they'd fall off as soon as you'd pick it up). The front section alone looks great (even though those rocket engines were still bound to scorch its own wings...), the base module itself is nice, but that sort of frame thingy that holds it when transporting it is pretty much useless otherwise.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ReplicaOfLife replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
The Grand Emporium had a clothes section. A Record Store would be cool, even though I already built one myself (left-most building in my sig). -
I recently fulfilled one of my old childhood dreams and got the 6195 Neptune Discovery Lab from Aquazone - a set I've been drooling over for more than 22 years now... Anyway, when I was building it, I started wondering: How were those raised baseplates actually produced? Does anyone know that? Since the printing is continuous throughout, I would assume that they propably printed first and then pressed into their final form. I can't think of any other way that would allow for such a continuous print on a 3-dimensional surface. Thanks

Congrats on going through with this. I did something similar, with the difference being that I never owned any instructions to the sets as a kid, since they were given to me by our neighbours. So at age 30+ I was finally able to build some sets I had owned for way over 20 years. I have a couple of those you have as well, e.g. the 928 or the Mobile Rocket Transport.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ReplicaOfLife replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I'm building it right now (only bags #6 left now), and that's pretty much how I feel & have felt ever since I saw the first pictures...but for what it is, it's still a great build that has brought me heaps of fun already. I'm replacing the dark red awnings with dark blue (to match the ground floor awnings and spire roof). I also wanted to use light grey (snot pieces) and tan (tiles) for the facade instead of tan and medium nougat (I think that the medium nougat clashes with the tan, and the colors of the other buildings, too), but the 1x1 with studs on two adjacent sides is not available in light grey yet :(. -

Not this modular Train Station hubbub again, please. It does not make any sense as a true modular (i.e. fitting into the street), so I'll pass on that. That Train Station modular on Lego Ideas was very rightfully rejected, imho. Now, a train station as a singular, stand-alone building, in the scale of the modulars, that would be another thing...and would easily match with a 300+€ price tag, and heaps of pieces. That could be an awesome set. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ReplicaOfLife replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
At 160€, I wouldn't expect the suspected modular to be more or less the usual 2000-2400 pieces. Adjusting for inflation, that seems about right. My guess: 10256: ~4000-4500 pieces...fingers crossed for an updated Town Plan 10260: ~2000-2400 pieces...modular 10261: ~3500 pieces...big building in Sydney Opera/Taj Mahal style 10262: ~1500-1800 pieces...classic car/plane, or maybe a train 10263: ~1000 pieces... as much as I'd love a Lego reproduction of something like, say, "Olympia Looping" (largest traveling roller coaster in the world, with 5!!! vertical loopings) - what's most likely would be a "Wild Mouse"-style roller coaster. Or maybe an old timey Wildcat model. Those pieces from the Batman set don't really allow for anything else. No banked curves, no inverting elements etc. Don't see what would require an extensive piece count here. Supports can be done with technic pieces, and apart from that you only need a small train or two, a ticket booth, some signage, fences, and that#s pretty much it. Plus, remember, the line reproduces fairground rides, and most fairgound coasters are rather small. -

Not pictures, but Jangbricks temporarily put it in his city next to some modulars, and made a video of it: Doesn't look too bad, imho. Regarding the D2C Creator sets: Hope that one will be the modular (obviously), but also hope that there's maybe another one that'll peak my interest. -

Just wondering, what's a fair price for them nowadays? (Sorry if I'm too curious, but all I ever see are the scalpers offers for 1000€ and more...) I'm happy with my BLed Cafe Corner and Blue Grocer, but it's srtill amazing/insane what original sets of those buildings fetch...
