Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
pirzyk replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I didn't pull them closer, they are in their original positions. -
I've powered a 26 car long train with a single Maersk engine (2 PF motors) and using a single LiPo battery. I was able to make it run for 3 hours before it turned itself off. Because it took a short time to recharge, I think it was not fully drained and just hit the timeout. As for the size of the battery have been limited, I tried to make a PF version of the GP-38 but since the battery sides are exposed I had to change the livery and not use the BSNF.

I like it, to me this reads like a Land Rover Discovery. Maybe it's the rear mounted tire, or should I say tyre since it is a LR :) The red lights are my choice. Thinking of getting any Fire stickers to add?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I do expand the sidewalks to the edge of the roads on the roadplates. I use dark bley 2x2 tiles and have street lights next to the one curb drain on each side of the road. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5884665 -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I would like to see some sort of Victorian houses in the Painted Ladies style. This could be a set of 2 16 wide homes, like the PS. This architecture would provide the details they seem to be going with lately and yet hopefully would be the right hight for everyone. The Museum that is currently in Ideas review is also top on my list, though I would not be surprised (disappointed though) if it does not get approved. A *very* interesting idea, I like it. It could be expanded to cover other type of assembly line manufacturing. -
I just noticed on the US S@H site that the XL motor has been pushed out to 22nd Jan (was the 15th) and that the PF Transformer is out of stock until 8th August? That seems not right to me. 9 months out of stock? I was thinking of getting a second one to put inside my train shed to hide charging of my PF engines.

Nice story and nice MOC. From the street I thought that you needed a second window/door to make the Pawn Shop more inviting, but I see there is little room for it from the other pictures. Might want to add some sort of sign out front saying it is a Pawn shop to Legoville. Nice touch with the ladder to the roof.

I like this idea too, though I agree the appeal may be limited. *sigh* Since we are talking a Creator set, it might be able to be tied into the Modular Buildings somehow, maybe the aforementioned station. That may get to large and expensive, unless they do the 16x16 footprint or a companion set. Hrm, I think this is a tough question. For me it really depends on what project I am working on at the time. So my current answer would be Brown (not Reddish Brown), Orange and Yellow (think 1950s era Illinois Central passenger trains, Panama Limited & City of New Orleans). In general I would like to see other colors for the windshields, train bases, bogie plates, decorative sides, buffers and train wheel holders. No I don't want much! :P PS the HE was a boon to me for the orange base!

huh, they are still on sale price here in the US but I did change region and I see they are non-sale price in the UK. Thanks for all the back story on PF, but I am confused on one point. You list 3 type of devices (input, control, output) but where are the handheld controllers? Also you list an input device at one point is the battery and the other point is a controller. I think there should be a 4th type of device (power source, input control, receiving control, output) that corresponds to battery, hand unit, IR reciever/switch, motors/lights. As for wish list for devices, I would like to see another power source, maybe a USB -> PF cable or even AC -> PF. I'm looking to power a Windturbine (4999) and would like not to run it off a battery. Controllers to flip the track switches is another case where battery power is not required, i.e. any trackside or fixed position device.

I guess it depends on what LEGO parts you already have. For display purposes I use my Flex Track. If you have 3228c you could easily build track with 1x8 or 2x8 plate sleepers.

What about The Train Station - Creator Expert or French Station Gare Française ?

I seriously doubt that LEGO would do the Freedom Train. It *might* do a Daylight. The 4449 *was* the Freedom train.

I love it as well! I might have to build a SnowUniKitty myself :)

I do love the NPU, both the mask and the brick seperators!

I'm all PF, I have 0 9V equipment. I've even converted over the Santa Fe and created a PF version of GP-38 in red/gray/ SF colors. The EN was the set that brought me out of my dark ages. I do have 4 cars I pull with my EN and as long as the track is pancake level, it will run. I have done the mods mentioned in RailBricks.

I ran my EN the other weekend on 9v track and it worked fine, no difference than PF track (it gets stuck on any little elevation change. If you want an XL motor, better get it soon, they are on sale (clearance) at S@H. I agree, this is the best looking Lego train, but too bad it's the worst running (at least of the PF trains). Please post and update when you get all pieces in place, I am intrigued.

Again awesome work, the bench is equisite. I maybe in the minority, I like the size of your previous work. Very small and to the point and I think has more visual impact than this. This is a 9, that was a 10 for me :)

For me, I think I will classify the rumor using the MB scale at 'Plausible', i.e. not confirmed nor busted. :) I have seen some LDD mocups using the XL with wall panels in a 6-wide, but that does limit your design choices. I am also looking forward to a smaller motor. I am torn whether or not I should pick up another motor, at least to have a spare for my EN.

Your work is always the most visually stunning! Is this Arena going on display this summer?

Just noticed on US S@H site that the XL Motor (8882), Control Switch (8869) and IR Remote Control (8885) are all on sale. Does that mean we are getting newer replacements (though the latter, we already have them).

I agree, decals help make the MOC. As for Color issues, be prepared to go down a rat hole. In a previous job, we calibrated monitors weekly and had to make sure they were always powered on (warm). We also had to calibrate the printers and cameras. Depending on how serious you want to be, you may want to get yourself a MacBeth chart. Let me know what assisance you would like, I am all ears :)

I am also interested in you matching colors, specifically the Reddish Brown. I could use it for my Illinois Central E Unit.

Slightly off topic, but the 4449 is at the Oregon Heritage Rail Museum, currently tore down for it's 15 year FRA rebuild. I got to look inside the firebox as they are welding in new pieces currently. Very impressive. Back to the topic, nice job!

Wow... I really like it, the mixing of colors of the building (third pic), the fallen in roof, the forklift, boat, on and on and on :)

I would also look at existing LEGO trains also for inspiration, like the Horizon Express.
