  1. hi everyone, so of course with lego you're never finished but I decided it was time to show the udpated of version of this that I've been working on for the past little while. I changed the livery and made some other changes to the model but nothing major. I added some comments on the photos which go into more detail and so on and have a look if you like here's the full photo album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/48109771@N05/albums/72157674710693742 .
  2. Not sure about how you would do it but I think it's paint. It looks like all visible parts of the piece are painted except for the printed cockpit glass. I'm not completely sure but I would be surprised if it was something else. I'm a very amateur modeller/painter/whatever but when I paint lego, I just use my dads modelling paint. At the moment I'm painting the White/royal blue livery onto Plo koon's delta-7 from episode 3. Initially I tried using stickers but then i realised how ridiculous it was to be cutting stickers to go around and on top of individual studs, so I went with paint. It's looking pretty nice so far, the colours I've got aren't exactly a match for the Lego plastics once applied and dried, but they blend in well. I don't have to worry about kids or anything so I'm not sure how you would take that into consideration. When ive messed up a section of paint on a Lego piece, I find that just using alcohol swabs will get it all off without much hassle (I use those things for just about everything and they never fail me ). As long as you are reasonably precise I've found that it doesn't seem to affect printing on Lego parts much either.
  3. Have you considered painting the cockpit (bucp?) piece? I think it would improve this a lot. At the moment, the nice shaping you have created is overshadowed by the square-ness of that piece
  4. No, you're not (is it really that much more expensive to make unique prints under the visors etc. for each pilot?)
  5. I like the idea and reckon it's possible. rex in 32 bby (episode 1): 0 years old, 0 years aged rex in 22 bby (episode 2, geonosis) : 10 years old, 20 years aged rex in 19 bby (episode 3, order 66, siege of mandalore) : 13 years old, 26 years aged Rex in 5-3 bby (not sure. his first reappearance is s2e1 so he would be about ) : ~28 years old, ~56 years aged rex in 2 bby (rebels s3e4) : 30 years old, 60 years aged rex in 0 bby (episode 4) : 32 old, 64 aged rex in 3.5 aby (episode 5) : 35.5 old, 71 aged rex in 4 aby (battle of endorse where he might have appeared ) : 36 old, 72 aged. i think it's a stretch but by no means impossible for a 72 year old to still being active like that.
  6. Completely agree. The whole "exclusive" argument to me is just rubbish, and like you said it doesn't appear to apply for other themes. I really dislike this artificial scarcity of what should be freely available. I would gain respect for lego if they stop doing this but I can't see it happening which is really disappointing.
  7. Thanks a lot I appreciate the kind words. the reason why I got so obsessive about the pilots was noticing a while ago that the prints for different pilot minifigs were different, which opened up a whole can of worms. Different uniforms in different productions, extensive reuse of props, etc. Months later i am still trying to assemble the pilots but it's difficult for a variety of reasons. There aren't any designs on the rebel helmet piece for red 1 or red 4 and there aren't any unique pilot faces with the visor down. My mission to make the squadron spiralled into the other squadrons and now I have dozens of pilots , it's ridiculous. Anyway here's what I have so far: red squadron on the right and gold on the left. I'm keen to add red 1 and red 4 as well, but its looking like i will have to paint on the designs myself because there aren't any prints out there to me knowledge. Another thing i updated - I was looking at the padme figure from 75021 and because I am always trying to figure out how to make more of her many costumes from the films in minifig form (because there are so few officially made and no apparent market for them), I realised that it might be possible to rub out the 'damaged' version that comes out in the official set and end up with the actual costume, which looks like this: so I got to work and here is the finished product. I'm pretty happy with it, but as you can see there is some evidence of the method I used to achieve the look which is disappointing. It was looking really good but then I got impatient and rushed some of the fine work where lines meet, so it's not perfect. But i like it. Next i'm thinking of adding the arm bracelets onto each arm with some reflective paint and perhaps think about her elaborate cape thing and how to make that, But happy for now. Here's my collection of costumes so far: All officially produced except #3 and #6. For #2 (tatooine in TPM), I just replaced the reddish brown hair with dark brown to match the others. For #6, I took the face that comes in 7961 and the new wonder woman hair which I think is perfect to represent the nursery/death bed gown from ROTS: and of course, the facial expression isn't really appopriate but I think it will do for now. I'm considering doing a fabric skirt to mimic the flowing part of the gown, but it's very simple so that can come later. I might do some simple crease patterns on the torso later to show that as well.
  8. that's true but that ship was part of a pretty big sequence in the film that was completely cut. Whereas the quadjumper is just a piece of concept art made into a background prop. It's like if this ship from TPM was made into a set: Ridiculous if you ask me. Hopefully it's a placeholder. To me it's funny, there is basically nothing else from TFA to make into a set aside from the finaliser. It really shows how unoriginal the design of the film was. Anyway, it doesn't matter
  9. Yep. I did another one yesterday, here's some photos of the process: and the finished product: (The guy on the right.) This is a guy called keir santage, he's seen briefly in Return of the Jedi in an x wing, wearing's wedge's helmet prop: The other two are much more obscure. The blonde guy appears in the film also, in the briefing room prior to the battle. In legends he is identified as "palso thern", but in the new canon he's just a film extra. Here he is in his b wing kit with some other b wing pilots. (Second from the right) The other is also very obscure - her name is legends is "Karie Neth" and also appears in the briefing. In an earlier post in this thread I showed how the "t-16 pilot" helmet actually was on board the falcon. During production of ROTJ I believe it was reused in this scene and "karie neth" has it. Although like palso thern, she is just a film extra in the new canon and doesn't have her own comic book series yet. Here she is: In the picture above, there is a black dude also in b wing near to the left of the 4 pilots. To my knowledge he is also just an extra in the new canon and I don't think he became a legends character either. But interestingly, in the blade squadron series from star wars insider, there is a guy called "braylen stramm" who I think looks kind of similar and is a similar height. I asked if he is intended to be this guy in return of the jedi but didn't get a response, so I'll just make it that way in my head. It's a bit racist really, just like all of the "finn is lando's son" theories, but I like it. Braylen from blade squadron: and here he is in lego form: The other dude here is "Grizz frixx", who interestingly has the "Red 5" callsign at Endor. He's the one who goes "shes gonna blow!" I believe that he is wearing dutch vander's helmet prop from A New Hope. Here he is in the film: Here are some more updates: left to right: Shara Bey (green 4, from the shattered empire comic and poe dameron's mum), Jake farrell, and L'ulo (green 2, also from shattered empire. I wish the duros head was a more turquoise colour but it's an improvement on cad bane's head which I had planned on using. I'm not sure if the A-wing pilot helmets in ROTJ are unique (i am pretty sure they are) but I can't tell them apart so I just have them all wearing the helmet and body from 75003. Shara bey from the comics (she has satele shan's head and a friends hair piece): Jake farrell from ROTJ (he goes into the death star, has a name in new canon but no callsign for some reason. I really like the head I used for him, I think it's elrond's): and l'ulo (used the duros head from 75133 - i'm not sure what his skin is supposed to look like because it looks different in the two comic series he's in): and there's still more: left to right: biggs (red 3), wedge (red 2), porkins (red 6), dex tiree (gold 2) I modified bard the bowman's head for biggs. Wedge's head is the super pale ezra one. Tiree just has the generic pilot face but with the "snowspeeder pilot" helmet from 75074. in a new hope: you can see that this helmet was also used in ESB, and appears on a guy who in legends is called "habeer zignean" (green 5). You can see him in the hoth briefing here: and his lego figure: so yeah, i think that's cool. I hope someone got something out of this post because I spent way too much time writing it! :)
  10. Very very nice. I really enjoy your style.
  11. Very childish mentality. Anyway, how many b-wing mocs were there before that set?
  12. I use a little eraser that is supposed to go on the end of a pencil. Use the rubber on the pencil and rub (carefully- if you do it right and are precise, you will only rub off the bite you want to ) and after a lot of effort it just comes off! Good luck. Takes patience but worth it. i did it a long time ago so my memory is fuzzy but I think I did the sideburns and the goatee freehand, and thought I was done, but then I remebered that had a moustache , so I needed to remove the soul patch under his mouth also. As a cautionary thing I put some tape over the mouth print so be safe when I was taking the last bit off
  13. Legos designs for the basic Star Wars jumpsuit collar are all the same or similar inthinknand they're all pretty exaggerated so it's hard to see the difference, the only one that sticks out to me is on the back where they have the puffy neck
  14. thanks that is very helpful anyway!
  15. Yularen? The head is bard the bowmans head with the goatee and sideburns rubbed off. And you're right, those are x wing uniforms. No jacket over the top and black gloves.
  16. Probably because 10179 did not do well apparently and also that it would be hard to reconcile an accurate representation with a build that matches their modern requirements and also profitable. Why not? In my opinion it matches the original trilogy visually and that's all that matters in a Lego set.
  17. I just noticed this the other day when updating some of my han figures that the brown pants from episode 5 and 6 need to be updated to the style found on the new dark blue pants from ANH (in 75052 for example). They are still using that ancient holster print, the only explanation I can think of for that is that they have a massive surpluof those pieces in a factory somewhere. I looked closely at the endor Han from 75094 and it's got dark brown legs instead of reddish brown, and the printed parts of the legs which show the pants and not the overcoat have the newer style holster design featured on the figure with blue pants that comes in 75052. Once there is a stripe on the legs, boots and a holster on both sides of the leg i can stop obsessing about it!
  18. congratulations. Can you please share the huge schematic of the t-65 you have been using as a reference?
  19. Really ? I think this looks much better. Although you do have to give bard the bowman some facial readjustment to achieve it (not a problem for me but perhaps for others. )
  20. I have reached the point where I just immediately part out all of the battlepacks. I've had some vehicle/side-builds/wahtever sitting collecting dust for years and I realised that it's much better to use the parts for my own building.
  21. Wow. This is super impressive. You've captured the hulking look of the ghost really well, it just looks enormous and monolithic. Looking at the comparison image is what really amazed me - you've absolutely nailed the crucial proportions and angles. Well done. the only things that really stuck out to me were the conventional studs up construction of the docking ring protrusions and the phantom docking area. By themselves they're very good and certainly not obviously lacking, but in contrast to the superb work around the rest of the ship they seem to stick out a bit to me but that's just nit picking. I think the docking area especially would benefit from some revisions in real bricks to clean some little bits up some more. But like I said it's not a big issue and doesn't detract from the whole thing at all. I really like this. youre a bit mad for attempting to make this in real bricks! It will be a huge task but I'm sure it will be all worthwhile once it starts coming together. Good luck !
  22. Nice, sets are never a good starting point for making s better replica of something in Lego in my experience though. For me it always ends up becoming something else entirely and the structure limits what you can do.
  23. I would say that the only reason those are printed is because I think they don't do 1x1 stickers.
  24. Y wing seems to use the exact same cockpit as always (I mean it's kind of accurate unlike its use on the x wing and also the new x wing cockpit but I digress) but it's hard to tell because to the picture quality.
  25. Very nice! Lovely stickers and in general really. With figures it looks superb, well done
